A Stronger Israel?
National Review, by Victor Davis Hanson

Original Article

In postmodern wars, we are told, there is no victory, no defeat, no aggressors, no defenders, just a tragedy of conflicting agendas. But in such a mindless and amoral landscape, Israel in fact is on its way to emerging in a far better position after the Gaza war than before. Analysts of the current fighting in Gaza have assured us that even if Israel weakens Hamas, such a short-term victory will hardly lead to long-term strategic success — but they don’t define “long-term.” In this line of thinking, supposedly in a few weeks Israel will only find itself more isolated than

I find it hard to believe that Hamas built all those tunnels and Israel didn´t know...

Maybe they need to put a microphone on the ground and listen...

VDH has long been one of our most astute observers of matters military – “from Marathon to Waterloo (and well beyond), in order categorical,” one might say.

This essay is one of his most perceptive – a welcome relief from the brainless pro-Hamas bilge spewed by just about every mainstream media outlet – while offering reasoned grounds for optimism. From his pen to God’s eyes…

I´ve been having a recurrent thought lately, and this is about a good place as any to bring it up. Since the Obama administration has no intention to support Israel in any way, nor, apparently does it have any intention to support the Kurds, who are having a hard time fighting against ISIS, perhaps, we, the American people can take direct action on this matter. Why not begin a crowd sourcing movement, a la KickStarter, or Indigogo, to funnel funding, and perhaps even arms to Israel and Kurdish controlled areas in Iraq. If the Obama administration won´t help our natural allies in the area, then maybe the American people can do it on our own.

In what is being billed as a reason for conservatives to be encouraged, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, has been tapped to head the Senate Steering Committee, a conference of Republican lawmakers working to advance a conservative agenda. Lee will take the helm from Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, chairman for the past two years. In a prepared statement, Lee said: The Senate Steering Committee will continue to develop and promote conservative solutions and facilitate vigorous discussion and debate on the issues that matter most to the country. I look forward to leading this effort and very much appreciate the support

People in Panama feel happiest about their lives, according to a new global well-being poll in which the U.S. finished 12th and the United Kingdom 26th. There were six Latin American countries in the top 10 in the poll, which asked people to measure their well-being across five key areas. Panamanians were well above the world average for feeling positive about their lives - 61 per cent were found to be ´thriving´ in at least three of the five facets - compared with just 17 per cent internationally. The five elements of the poll were: purpose - liking what you do each

A village of just 1,000 residents in Switzerland has been forced to raise taxes because an African refugee and her seven children cost the local authority £40,000 in benefits every month. Hagenbuch, in the Swiss canton of Zurich, is understood to be spending close to a third of its total annual budget on the family after they arrived from Eritrea in East Africa three years ago. The massive benefits bill covers day-to-day living expenses such as groceries and cleaning costs, as well as paying for four of the woman´s children to be housed in an orphanage and even bills for

The Grand Mufti of the Department of Social Justice (aka, DOJ) has issued a fatwa prohibiting states from using zoning laws to deny building permits for Islamic “culture centers” -- Mosques with “youth centers.” … as a grand jury investigates another Minneapolis mosque for radicalizing recruits for ISIL, the Justice Department is suing local officials for blocking a new extremist mosque in the area. Attorney General Eric Holder sued St. Anthony, Minn., after the Minneapolis suburb rejected the Abu Huraira Islamic Center and its 15,000-square-foot mosque over zoning issues.

States enraged by an Obamacare provision denying them subsidies unless they created insurance exchanges shouldn’t have been surprised. Congress routinely uses the power of the purse to twist states’ arms until they submit. It’s worked for decades. When states wanted federal highway funds in the 1970s, they first had to lower their speed limits to 55 mph. A decade later, states were prodded into raising the drinking age to 21. In the 2000s, federal education grants were made contingent on states adopting standards included in such programs as No Child Left Behind and Common Core. Now, however, states increasingly are

While we talk about democracy and equal rights, we seem increasingly to let both private and government decisions be determined by mob rule. There is nothing democratic about mob rule. It means that some people´s votes are to be overruled by other people´s disruptions, harassments and threats. The latest examples are the mobs in the streets in cities across the country, demanding that employers pay a minimum wage of $15 an hour, or else that the government makes them do so by law. Some of the more gullible observers think the issue is whether what some people are making now is

President Obama in his ISIS speech did his best to convince the American people that things are under control, that he will pursue a coalition with other nations to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS and that he will do it only through air strikes. (Snip) When Obama declared he had no strategy yet on ISIS a few weeks ago he was perceived as a weak and indecisive leader, but is that all the reason for his reluctance to fight ISIS? Or are there other, hidden reasons why Obama does not want to destroy ISIS? Reluctance and refusal to go to war,

How would a law that makes employers afraid to give raises benefit women?! Yet many senators appear to believe it would. They have announced their support for the Paycheck Fairness Act (PFA), which is currently being debated in the Senate and could be up for a vote as soon as this week. This law would make almost any difference in pay between employees grounds for a lawsuit. If it passes, businesses could be in legal jeopardy for giving raises and bonuses. Supporters intend the Paycheck Fairness Act to combat sex discrimination. Certainly sex discrimination is wrong. Women and men doing equal work deserve

Unfortunately for the rest of America, liberals are not going to realize the damage they have wrought on all of us until they personally experience the ramifications of supporting Barack Obama. At this juncture, maybe an illegal-immigrant-caused mini pandemic will rouse liberals out of the fevered delusion that this president somehow has the best interests of the nation’s children at heart. What is obvious is that Barack Obama does have the best interests of children at heart: illegal immigrant children harboring viruses and communicable diseases. American children who are defenseless against the onslaught, not so much.

What is the core of the American story? What is American history about? For a long time, Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was thought to offer the most succinct and profound reply to these questions. The heart of the American story was said to be the Founding, with its principles of liberty and equality. (Snip) More recently, revisionist historians have developed a different answer to the question of what America’s story is about. From their perspective, at the heart of our country’s history—like the history of any other powerful nation—lies the pursuit of empire, of dominion over others. In this view,
