Perry 2016: The View from Texas
National Review, by Mark Davis

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 8/5/2014 12:13:40 PM

As Rick Perry looks out at us from countless cable-news channels this summer, his border chess match against the Obama administration underscores his potential 2016 skill set. Two portraits emerge. One is of a wiser, seasoned executive ready to jump into a race already rich with governors. He’s armed with more reliable conservatism than that of Chris Christie; and he has a meatier résumé than Bobby Jindal, Scott Walker, or Mike Pence. This portrait features Perry’s proud record of protecting his state from the scourges of the Obama years, racking up stretches of job creation and growth that have far outpaced

Comments:
I like Perry more all the time. Fred Barnes had a terrific article in the Weekly Standard about what Perry is doing to prepare himself for a run. That includes travel abroad and meeting with foreign leaders.

Perry has already accomplished several good things for the state of Texas. He will do the same for the rest of usA.
Many others would make good candidates, too. Perry would be a great president.

I watched Rick Perry talking about the border crisis on Fox News recently (7-13-14) and it was like watching Forrest Gump. He talked in circles and then blurted out whatever popped into his brain after he had been around the circle a few times. No direction, no conclusion, little new information. Then Chris Wallace actually said: “So let me try to distill what you said” Then Chris made a clear concise statement with a conclusion and an excited Perry said “YES!”.

The TV camera is Perry’s kryptonite. The liberal media will WAIT ‘til he is the nominee then EASILY make him look a bigger fool than Biden.

There are 2 reasons Perry is still in the running:

1) Texas (not Perry) is a shining example of what you get with less taxes and less government.
2) While being inarticulate he frequently throws in bible verses causing a lot of people to fail to see the Forrest Gump for the trees.

Perry needs to show that he can clean up that bureaucratic swamp in DC. If there is any hint of "uniter not divider" crap he´ll paint a bullseye on his chest just like GW, then we´ll get more of the same out of that stinkin´ place.

I live in Texas and Perry is a fraud conservative who is using the border crisis for his own ends. He has no plan how to solve it on his own so he is just milking it.

Couple of things...Mark Davis is a longtime Texas-based writer. He used to write for the Dallas Morning News and has (or had) a radio talk show, too. He has guest hosted for Limbaugh, too. I´ve never considered him particularly insightful. Second thing. Rick Perry is talking about and dealing with the border because kids are flooding over the border. Would the poster rather he simply stay quiet and in the Governor´s Mansion reading the papers with his new glasses? Governor Perry has been screaming about the unsecured border for years, but as with Jan Brewer in Arizona, there are limits to a governor´s power over an international border.

Now that I´ve said all that, I hope Rick Perry doesn´t run for president. I am very fond of him and an enthusiastic supporter, but I don´t want to watch him being ground up by the game.

States enraged by an Obamacare provision denying them subsidies unless they created insurance exchanges shouldn’t have been surprised. Congress routinely uses the power of the purse to twist states’ arms until they submit. It’s worked for decades. When states wanted federal highway funds in the 1970s, they first had to lower their speed limits to 55 mph. A decade later, states were prodded into raising the drinking age to 21. In the 2000s, federal education grants were made contingent on states adopting standards included in such programs as No Child Left Behind and Common Core. Now, however, states increasingly are

While we talk about democracy and equal rights, we seem increasingly to let both private and government decisions be determined by mob rule. There is nothing democratic about mob rule. It means that some people´s votes are to be overruled by other people´s disruptions, harassments and threats. The latest examples are the mobs in the streets in cities across the country, demanding that employers pay a minimum wage of $15 an hour, or else that the government makes them do so by law. Some of the more gullible observers think the issue is whether what some people are making now is

President Obama in his ISIS speech did his best to convince the American people that things are under control, that he will pursue a coalition with other nations to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS and that he will do it only through air strikes. (Snip) When Obama declared he had no strategy yet on ISIS a few weeks ago he was perceived as a weak and indecisive leader, but is that all the reason for his reluctance to fight ISIS? Or are there other, hidden reasons why Obama does not want to destroy ISIS? Reluctance and refusal to go to war,

Why Is the Senate Considering

How would a law that makes employers afraid to give raises benefit women?! Yet many senators appear to believe it would. They have announced their support for the Paycheck Fairness Act (PFA), which is currently being debated in the Senate and could be up for a vote as soon as this week. This law would make almost any difference in pay between employees grounds for a lawsuit. If it passes, businesses could be in legal jeopardy for giving raises and bonuses. Supporters intend the Paycheck Fairness Act to combat sex discrimination. Certainly sex discrimination is wrong. Women and men doing equal work deserve

Unfortunately for the rest of America, liberals are not going to realize the damage they have wrought on all of us until they personally experience the ramifications of supporting Barack Obama. At this juncture, maybe an illegal-immigrant-caused mini pandemic will rouse liberals out of the fevered delusion that this president somehow has the best interests of the nation’s children at heart. What is obvious is that Barack Obama does have the best interests of children at heart: illegal immigrant children harboring viruses and communicable diseases. American children who are defenseless against the onslaught, not so much.

What is the core of the American story? What is American history about? For a long time, Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was thought to offer the most succinct and profound reply to these questions. The heart of the American story was said to be the Founding, with its principles of liberty and equality. (Snip) More recently, revisionist historians have developed a different answer to the question of what America’s story is about. From their perspective, at the heart of our country’s history—like the history of any other powerful nation—lies the pursuit of empire, of dominion over others. In this view,

Stanton Peele, who studies and treats addiction, has published a fascinating summation of the scientific evidence on drinking and health (hat tip: Instapundit), and it cuts against the grain of much of what you will hear from most public health spokesmen. Drinking alcohol, up to two drinks a day for women and four for men (sorry, ladies, that’s what the data shows!), decreases mortality. Drink up and live longer. The U.S. public health establishment buries overwhelming evidence that abstinence is a cause of heart disease and early death. People deserve to know that alcohol gives most of us a higher life

But execrable as that serial prevarication may have been, it doesn’t hold a proverbial candle to his most recent whopper — that the Islamic State is not Islamic — not to mention its corollary, or perhaps subsidiary lie, that real religions do not indulge in murder. Is a mutiny happening around President Obama? It appears possible that the president may not have made two of his most recent decisions with complete free will. The announcement that he would delay his immigration initiative until after the election and his formal announcement that the United States would take military action against the Islamic State could have been coerced. Maybe Democratic leaders in Congress and a few members of the Obama team have had it. Could it be that, after President Obama briefed Democrats in Congress on the immigration plan, they balked?
