A growing percentage of women living on Los Angeles´ skid row are older, and more likely to be in poor health or disabled than their younger counterparts, according to a survey released Monday. The percentage of women on skid row ages 51 to 61 jumped from 23% in 2001 to 40% in 2013, the survey of 324 women found. Women 62 and older increased from 4% to 11% in the same period. The median age is now 50, up from 44. (Snip) Skid row´s total population is about 10,000, including more than 1,700 living in the streets. Officials estimate a

Comments:
The Democrats´ relentless war on women—and in particular, older black women—continues unabated. Article says 57% of the Skid Row homeless women are black, versus 10% in the general population. (Yet they´d elect Our King to a third term if they could; there´s just something about him they can´t resist.)

Down and out women are one more gift of feminism. No man to marry and respect. No family based on love. Nothing but loneliness.
One can judge a tree by its fruit, and the feminist revolt has produced a revolting and rotting fruit.

A lot of this also has to do with Obama´s rotten economy and Democrat policies in California where REAL unemployment is 22%; housing is priced out of reach of the average worker because foreigners are allowed to buy up all the property with cash (including foreign government cash); Disability benefits not being available to people who really need it but if you know how to scam the system, you can get it; and a whole slew of other stupid red taped, crony-backed, leftist ideals that are making life impossible for normal people.

Some things are classically San Franciscan. Paterson – The city school district paid out more than $1.1 million for unused sick and vacation days to 47 former employees who retired on July 1. Most of the employees had been teachers, but the list also included a few maintenance workers and aides. The district disclosed the payouts in its monthly personnel report for September. Ten of the payouts exceeded $40,000, with retired principal Joseph Andriulli getting the largest amount - $49,170 for 90 unused days. The payments were all stipulated by labor contracts, officials said. Paterson’s municipal government has had to borrow money in recent years to pay retirees

Camden — It´s common knowledge among some neighbors on Newton Avenue that Martin Luther King Jr. once had family living on their street, and that the man himself would occasionally visit during the late 1940s. What´s also known is that the house, 940 Newton Ave., has turned into a classic, shameful example of what´s happened to thousands of other homes in Camden — vacant, boarded up and a homing beacon for prostitutes and junkies. (Snip) However, within a month, its interior and backyard are once again carpeted with discarded drug baggies, used needles and used condoms. Thursday was no different, and members

Once saluted as America´s suburb, the San Fernando Valley has fallen on difficult times. Nestle USA announced last month that it would close the Chatsworth plant where Hot Pockets frozen sandwiches have been made since 1988, eliminating 360 jobs as it moves production to Kentucky. Not far behind, Sunkist Growers is moving out after four decades in the Valley, leaving its Sherman Oaks headquarters and heading to Santa Clarita. And adult film production — much of which is based in the Valley — has plummeted, as has mainstream film and television production. And so, at the first-of-its-kind State of the

Washington, DC — The House has passed a bill that could make it a little harder for people to use government welfare payments to buy marijuana in states where the drug is legal. Supporters call it the "no welfare for weed" bill. The bill would prevent people from using government-issued welfare debit cards to make purchases at stores that sell marijuana. It would also prohibit people from using the cards to withdraw cash from ATMs in those stores. The House passed the bill Tuesday evening on a voice vote. Pot smokers, however, could still use their benefit cards to get

Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis, who served under Obama until last year, became the latest high-profile skeptic on Thursday, telling the House Intelligence Committee

Devastating. That´s really the only way to describe Politico´s piece on DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. (I hereby nominate her for Worst Week in Washington.) (Editor´s note: Three words -- Joseph. Robinette. Biden.) Based on interviews with DNC staffers -- both former and current -- the piece described Wasserman Schultz as something of a modern-day Tracy Flick: over-eager, disloyal and not shy about promoting her ambitions. It would be fair to say that she sounds like, well, a lot like other politicians. And this would be accurate. Despite the beheading of two Americans, establishment of an Islamic caliphate, direct threats to the U.S. homeland, and the destabilization of the entire Middle East, Obama refuses to acknowledge that we are at war with barbaric Islamic jihadists. And he refuses to authorize the requisite boots on the ground. But what was the logic of propagating to the world videos of its beheadings of two Americans (and subsequently a Briton) — sure to inflame public opinion? There are two possible explanations. One is that these terrorists are more depraved and less savvy than we think. They so glory in blood that they could not resist making an international spectacle of their savagery — after all, they proudly broadcast their massacre of Shiite prisoners — and did not quite fathom how such a
