Is Thinking Obsolete?
Creators Syndicate, by Thomas Sowell

Original Article

Some have said that we are living in a post-industrial era, while others have said that we are living in a post-racial era. But growing evidence suggests that we are living in a post-thinking era. Many people in Europe and the Western Hemisphere are staging angry protests against Israel´s military action in Gaza. One of the talking points against Israel is that far more Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israeli military attacks than the number of Israeli civilians killed by the Hamas rocket attacks on Israel that started this latest military conflict. Are these protesters aware that vastly more German civilians

Comments:
If you know a liberal who is misinformed rather than crazy, give him a book by Thomas Sowell. Sowell explains things so clearly and simply that any halfway open-minded person could understand.

I´ll answer that with three words:

President Barack Obama

or maybe

Senator Al Franken...the list could go on.

Dr. Sowell is brilliant, and we all know this, but he´s wrong. There is plenty of thinking going on, it´s just stupid thinking.

I was under the impression that during The Celebration of Ignorance (the reign of King Barack) that rational thinking was forbidden, as it is only evidence of greed and racism. Am I wrong?

Liberals´ idea of success in the War against Terrorism:

Use the Terrorists´ Scoreboard to ensure they are allowed to kill as many of your civilians as they report you have killed of theirs.

Cycle endlessly through letting Terrorists attack your defenseless civilians, bombing their infrastructure, ceasing fire when the Terrorists say you have scored more civilian death count than they have, then letting them rebuild their infrastructure to attack your civilians again.

"Smart" Warfare.

I believe deductive and perhaps inductive logic can be dumbed down, for the low end of the gene pool. Even economics at a basic level.

Such an effort would have to be a private or populist movement. Perhaps cultural. It is governments that desire idiocy and ignorance.

Thinking is becoming obsolete, but it´s a consequence of our rapidly changing technology. The very definition of intelligence is changing right before our eyes: Retaining information is no longer as important as being able to quickly *access* correct information. Which student will be the most productive ---the one who takes an hour to manually calculate square root problems or the one who knows how to access the correct answers in a few seconds?
What´s being lost in the process, of course, is critical thinking---and without it, students become moral and political targets for their radical liberal instructors.

The quintessential question of Watergate was “what did the President know and when did he know it?” Obamagate, the vast scandal that encompasses an entire presidency, offers a preemptive answer. Obama didn’t know anything and he never knew it. At least not until, like smuggling weapons to druglords, bugging journalists, IRSing his political enemies and killing vets, his right hand found out about what his left hand was doing from the morning paper. After skipping 58% of his daily intelligence briefings in Term 1 and 59% of them in Term 2, he went on 60 Minutes and blamed intelligence agencies for being

Hard-charging radio commentator Mark Levin is sick of waiting for the Republican Party to nominate a conservative for president, and today he outlined his plan to accomplish just that. Speaking at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, the talk radio giant and bestselling author issued a call to action to the crowd of social conservatives, prescribing a grassroots movement to elect a conservative to the White House in 2016. Levin lamented that Americans under age 50 haven’t yet had the chance to vote for a true conservative such as Ronald Reagan for president and called on conference attendees to spend the next

The Middle East is like a vast dysfunctional family. Western leftists like to place all the blame on Israel, but for 1,300 years before modern Israel declared its independence, Muslims were routinely killing each other, following the rule: Me against my brother, my brothers and me against our cousins, my clan against the world. One of the weirdest moves in this dysfunctional culture is for Arabs and Turks to accuse each other of being secret Jews. (Snip) But! Today, science comes to the rescue, in the form of DNA analysis. I first met David French back in 2004. He had just taken a job as president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, or FIRE. (Snip) By the end of the spring semester, I would bring David three plaintiffs in three separate public university speech code cases. He would win two of those cases after filing suit in federal court. The university caved in the third case after merely catching wind of the fact that they were about to be sued. We were off to a good start working together. Over the course of the summer I started to prepare

A young Orthodox rabbi of my acquaintance denounced Jews who exult in the mutual slaughter of Muslims from the pulpit on the Jewish New Year. He is of course correct: no-one should take pleasure in the death of noncombatants. (Snip) Since 9/11 I have argued that the strategic plan of Islamist terrorism is to poison the Western soul with horror, by setting in motion atrocities too grim for the Western mind to bear. There is very good reason to believe that they are succeeding. Judging by the proliferation of the horror genre in popular entertainment, we are succumbing to horror

From the window of his Paris home, Michel Ciardi can see into the waiting room of a government welfare agency where a predominantly Arab and African crowd awaits government checks. A former communist, Ciardi once believed the scene at the agency was a necessary element of French efforts to help integrate new immigrants. But that changed in 2000 after the second Palestinian intifada triggered a massive increase in anti-Semitic violence, much of it committed by Arab and African immigrants. The violence was enough to shift his political allegiance to the National Front, a far-right party long demonized by

Watching the parade of the naïve, the far left, and their energy-hogging celebrity manipulators marching in New York City this week, I was struck by how much these true believers had in common with jihadis, a notion reinforced by Perdue Professor Louis Rene Beres’ description of jihadis in Gatestone Institute and my friend “Ignatz´s’" comment at Just One Minute. Both movements seem to these authors to be a means of denying death and change and making the mortal, immortal and the insignificant individual life, a significant force when massed with others. Can you imagine the reputation of a literary figure surviving the disclosure that he worked (however briefly and ineffectually) for Hitler´s Abwehr? Yet Ernest Hemingway worked for Stalin’s KGB and nobody (among the “smart set”) seems to bat an eye. President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. And that is right and proper. Because not only was his excuse of blaming us a lie, but when questioned on his lie, White House press secretary Josh Earnest doubled down with a whole new lie — both of which are easily, publicly proven false. The Obama administration found itself scrambling on Tuesday to defend President Barack Obama for his lackluster 42% attendance record on daily intelligence briefings, a finding from a new report issued by the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). When asked about the GAI revelation on Fox News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki appeared flustered and unprepared. "Well, I have no validation of those statistics," said Psaki. A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015. Under SB270, plastic bags will be phased out of large grocery stores starting next summer and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The law allows grocers to charge a fee of at least 10 cents for using paper bags. State Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Los Angeles,

President Obama this week committed professional suicide. Let me explain. There is a theory in politics that once a leader has fired 50 or more people from his or her administration, he or she is finished. The reason being that by creating so many enemies ‘outside the tent’, the tent itself becomes too deluged with poisonous bile to avoid sinking into a quagmire of back-stabbing ignominy. Obama went a lot further than firing 50 people. He managed to single-handedly alienate 200,000 employees in the American intelligence agencies by going on 60 Minutes and ruthlessly chucking them all under a bus

BOSTON — Many Massachusetts households are going to see their electric bills shoot up 37 percent this winter, a rate increase that some advocates fear will put additional strain on low-income families. State regulators approved the increase for National Grid household customers that would mean an average of $33 per month more for the typical residential customer and would push a typical monthly bill higher than $150. Large-business customers will see even higher increases. National Grid has almost 1.3 million residential and business electric customers in Massachusetts. The new rates take effect in November.
