Pomp and Politics: How a Small
Town Becomes Epicenter of a
Senate Showdown

PJ Media, by Rob Longley

FANCY FARM, Ky. — It was only 10 a.m. and already the mercury was nearing 90. All signs pointed to a typically hot and muggy midsummer’s day here in this western Kentucky town of 500 souls. Hot as it would get, though, not even Mother Nature could match the torrid trashtalk that would heat up the pavilion behind St. Jerome Catholic Church later in the day. This was the first Saturday in August, after all — a day when the town swells to between 20 and 40 times its usual size for Kentucky’s premier political event, the Fancy Farm Picnic.

#1...I´m sure similar events go on in every State. But you best learn about these characters, even if you can´t vote for them. If the Mitch and the Republicans win the majority in the Senate Mitch will replace Harry Reid. If Grimes wins, then KY will be on the hind end of anything for KY as she will be licking Obama´s behind all the way. This is based on what she is for.

I don´t care for McConnell and wish Kentuckians had the intelligence to vote for the Tea Party candidate, but I´m afraid too many residents are still in the "country bumpkin" stage. I just hope they aren´t dumb enough to vote for an Obama Senator.

Unlike the previous poster, most on this forum disagree with the posters ASSumptions about those of us who may be "country bumpkins".
We are certainly intelligent enough to know that a vote for a RINO,would be no different than a vote for a Dem/open borders socialist.
Please remember Mississippi and vote accordingly.

Jenna Bush Hager has offered a glimpse inside the nursery she had designed for 17-month-old daughter Mila. As part of the Today show´s new series At Home with Today, the 32-year-old opened the doors to the room in her Manhattan loft, which features exposed brick, an art collection and a rather un-girly sky blue theme. ´I was actually so certain that I was having a boy that we painted the room a neutral blue,´ Jenna explained. ´Even though it´s blue, it still has a feminine touch.´ While it may not be the girliest space, Jenna and her husband Henry Hager

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says that if she steps down now, President Obama would not be able to appoint an acceptable replacement. Ginsburg, who reiterated that she has no imminent plans to retire, told Elle that it would be next to impossible for the Senate to confirm a new justice to the court who she would approve of. "Who do you think President Obama could appoint at this very day, given the boundaries that we have? If I resign any time this year, he could not successfully appoint anyone I would like to see in the court," she

The laws of political fundraising dictate that every time a politician does something embarrassing — or heck, every time a politician does something — his or her opponents must therefore beat that incident to death in order to make money. Lo and behold: Barack Obama saluted the Marines while holding a latte! Ka-ching. Over at SemperLatte.com, anyone who is outraged by Obama’s multitasking can sign up for the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s emailing list, and express their displeasure by donating various sums of money to an assortment of GOP candidates running in the upcoming midterms. “Our Commander-in-Chief should take the

"There´s definitely a second day and there´ll be a third and a fourth" in Syria, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told CNN in an interview on Wednesday. "This will go on for some time in several forms." Along with its Arab partners, the Obama administration aims to destroy ISIS, the extremist faction that has through brute force carved out a proto-state in the heart of the Middle East, effectively erasing the border between Iraq and Syria. The United Nations has accused the extremist faction of committing war crimes. The U.S. strikes earlier Wednesday, conducted by bombers and fighter jets, damaged

How imminent is an ´imminent´ attack threat?

WASHINGTON— Smart people in the administration have spent the last two days telling the American people that U.S. strikes against the Khorasan Group were necessary to disrupt "imminent attack plotting" against U.S. and Western interests. They warned that members of the shadowy Khorasan Group, an al-Qaida offshoot, were "nearing the execution phase" of an attack in the U.S. or Europe. They spoke of "active plotting that posed an imminent threat." People may have come away with the impression that the terror group was on the brink of pulling off something awful. Perhaps not. In government-speak, "imminent attack plotting" doesn´t necessarily mean

In the largest settlement with a single American Indian tribe, the Obama administration will pay the Navajo Nation $554 million to settle claims that the U.S. government has mismanaged funds and natural resources on the Navajo reservation for decades. The settlement, to be signed in Window Rock, Ariz., on Friday, resolves a long-standing dispute between the Navajo Nation and the U.S. government, with some of the claims dating back more than 50 years. The sprawling Navajo reservation, located in parts of Arizona, Utah and New Mexico, is the largest and most populous Indian reservation, with 14 million acres of trust

ARVADA, Colo.- In Colorado´s second-largest county, students and teachers are staging protests over the actions of a newly conservative school board. Hundreds of students walked out of classes from five different Jefferson County high schools Tuesday, taking to the street to hold signs and soliciting supportive honks from passing cars. The action followed a teacher protest Friday where two schools had to be closed after 50 teachers called in sick, and a 100-student protest at Evergreen High School Monday. At issue were proposed changes to the curriculum, which would include a new committee to promote "positive aspects" of U.S. history

Only 39 percent of registered New York voters surveyed in a Marist College poll said Obama is doing an "excellent" or "good" job, the lowest level for Obama in the poll since the beginning of his presidency. That´s down 6 points from July, when 45 percent said they approved of his job performance. Sixty-one percent of survey respondents judged Obama as doing a "fair" or "poor" job in office.

President Barack Obama saluted a pair of United States Marines on Tuesday while holding what appeared to be a styrofoam cup in his saluting hand, a breach of military regulations that won´t win him fans among veterans and servicemen. Obama is known for drinking tea, not coffee, when he travels, especially before delivering speeches. His quasi-saluting gesture was an instant embarrassment for the White House, and not because his environmentally taboo drinkware clashed with the green-policy speech he was on his way to deliver at a UN Climate Summit. Merritt Tierce, whose debut novel Love Me Back chronicles her time at a high-end Dallas steakhouse, revealed in an interview with Dallas News that, at the time, she was also the executive director of the Texas Equal Abortion (TEA) Fund, which provides financial assistance to low-income women seeking abortions.

One of them—the last—was less good, given he had gone MIA for the better part of three weeks and I had a sneaking suspicion he had a girlfriend. The United States and allies launched airstrikes against Sunni militants in Syria early Tuesday, unleashing a torrent of cruise missiles and precision-guided bombs from the air and sea on the militants’ de facto capital of Raqqa and along the porous Iraq border. American fighter jets and armed Predator and Reaper drones, flying alongside warplanes from several Arab allies, struck a broad array of targets in territory controlled by the militants, known as the Islamic State. American defense officials said the targets included weapons supplies, depots, barracks and buildings the militants use for command and control. Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired
