Heroic Navy diver drowned after
refusing to leave his fellow
sailor to die alone underwater
during a training exercise

Daily Mail [UK], by Alex Greig

Original Article

A Navy diver died at the bottom of a Maryland pond last year after refusing to leave his trapped fellow sailor to drown alone. Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan Harris, 23, and Petty Officer 1st Class James Reyher, 28, were sent to dive in the Aberdeen Proving Ground on February 26 2013, but their lifeless bodies were pulled to the surface just 31 minutes after they started the dive. No one knew what had befallen the pair until an investigation, completed last year but only recently released, pieced together the final 31 minutes of the young men´s lives.

Comments:
So tragic; even worse, the exercise was completely botched. Both of these young men were heroes. They did not consider their own lives in trying to save each other.

#2 - Article first appeared in the Virginian-Pilot, which has additional details.

Unless the rules have changed, the Navy NEVER uses single bottles when planning a dive greater than 100 feet - twin tanks only, as the rate of air consumption increases greatly at such depths. And when you think about it, if the mission was to search and locate a sunken helo then who could determine ahead of time how long it would take? Rules and procedures exist for a reason and many have been put in place pursuant to harsh lessons learned. It wouldn´t have been the manly thing to do but either one of these guys would have been fully within their rights to refuse to make the dive under such conditions. Tragic all around.

What a horribly tragic story. May God bless these heroes, and look over their families.
I can´t help but wonder why the commanding officer was ´unapproachable and disengaged.´ I´m thankful he was fired, but I fear for our fighting members of the military who are under the command of incompetence such as apparently displayed in this event.

The prime suspect in the abduction of Hannah Graham has been linked to the disappearance, rape and murder of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, it was revealed on Monday. Virginia State Police this morning confirmed the arrest of Jesse ‘LJ’ Matthew had provided a ‘new forensic link’ to detectives investigating the disappearance of 20-year-old Morgan in October 2009. Police described the dramatic development as a ‘significant break’. Morgan’s brutal murder has already been linked by DNA to the rape of a 26-year-old woman in Fairfax, Virginia in September 2005.

A couple were thrown off a bus and branded racists after singing the Peppa Pig theme tune to their autistic daughter, it has been claimed. Nick Barnfield and Sarah Cleaves were travelling with their daughter Heidi on a bus from Sheffield to Doncaster when the 15-month-old started crying. The couple, who live in Rotherham, started singing the song in an effort to cheer their daughter up, but say they were branded racists by another passenger and told to get off the bus by its driver.

Jesse ´LJ´ Matthew, the man charged with the abduction of missing UVA student Hannah Graham, was accused of rape when he studied at Liberty University, MailOnline can exclusively reveal. Matthew was expelled from the Christian university founded by Jerry Falwell in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2002, following the alleged sex attack on a female student but was not charged with any crime, former teammates said. Police announced last night that Matthew was arrested in Galveston, Texas, after going on the run.

James Foley was singled out for the harshest treatment by his ISIS captors after they found pictures of his brother who serves in the U.S. Air Force on his laptop computer, fellow prisoners said on Thursday. He was regularly the victim of mock executions including once when he was ´crucified against a wall,´ said French journalist Didier Francois. Francois, 53, told Europe 1 Radio that the captors gave Foley rougher treatment from the rest of them because they discovered a picture of John Foley — the hostage´s 35-year-old officer brother — on his computer.

I recently spelled out my support for Israel on Facebook. This is new for me. I´m an American baby boomer, and I always took it for granted that my country supported Israel, and that forces infinitely more powerful than I had the job covered. There´s another reason I previously hadn´t said much about Israel: I´m Polish-Slovak-American, and I am Catholic. Polish Catholics are stereotyped as the world´s worst anti-Semites. Poles suck anti-Semitism with their mother´s milk, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir famously declared.

Six weeks after the primary runoff election, Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel is launching his formal legal challenge of the election results, saying the evidence is so conclusive that he will be calling for courts to recognize him as the true victor of the race rather than calling for a new election. “Chris McDaniel clearly, clearly won the Republican vote in the runoff,” McDaniel attorney Mitch Tyner said at a Monday press conference. “I say that very assuredly because that’s what the mathematics show. It’s not what I’m arguing. After the election, we did some post-election polling.

Why Criminals Are Afraid

Many young people, especially the anti-social, dislike classical music so much that it can be played to discourage them from intimidating, harassing and robbing. This experiment has been successful over many years in countless locations. The earliest occurrence was in the mid-1980s, when Canadian outlets of 7-Eleven played easy listening and classical music to disperse teenagers loitering outside. After that, companies from McDonald's to Co-op, transport authorities, housing estates and shopping malls around the world have employed this method. In the UK, the first to do so was the Tyne-and-Wear Metro system in 1997, following Montreal’s underground system in Canada.

He (or she) went by names like Old Shep, Old Dog Tray, or Spot. This is the story of an American dog.

My last article for American Thinker was too long. And too short. Too long because the gurus tell us articles should be about 600 words. My story about the president talking to the black caucus about white people inflicting constant racial injustice on black people came in at 1500 words. I was just getting warmed up. I thought it strange that at the same time the president was trying to persuade us that black people are relentless victims, black people were committing acts of racial violence in places like Seattle, Miami, Indianapolis, Bronx, Ferguson, Kansas City, Providence, Minneapolis and 18 miles from where

The quintessential question of Watergate was “what did the President know and when did he know it?” Obamagate, the vast scandal that encompasses an entire presidency, offers a preemptive answer. Obama didn’t know anything and he never knew it. At least not until, like smuggling weapons to druglords, bugging journalists, IRSing his political enemies and killing vets, his right hand found out about what his left hand was doing from the morning paper. After skipping 58% of his daily intelligence briefings in Term 1 and 59% of them in Term 2, he went on 60 Minutes and blamed intelligence agencies for being

President Obama was at Northwestern University on Thursday to deliver an economic speech that, he and his team hoped, would lay out the case for why the public is better off today than they were six years ago -- even if they didn´t feel it in their everday lives. Instead, Obama just gave every Republican ad-maker in the country more fodder for negative ads linking Democratic candidates to him. Here are the four sentences that will draw all of the attention (they come more than two thirds of the way through the speech): "I am not on the ballot this

A presidential defeat isn’t an easy thing to bounce back from. And Mitt Romney did it twice. So it was understandable that after he lost the presidential race in 2012, he was adamant about closing the door to the possibility of a third campaign. But recently, speculation is whirling that Romney may not be so adamant anymore. When asked if he was running in a New York Times interview published earlier this week, Romney said : “I have nothing to add to the story. We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race,” he said. “We’ll see what happens.” That response, which
