Tiger Woods may play
PGA Championship despite

LOUISVILLE - Tiger Woods is going to wait as long as he can. As bad as it looked Sunday, Woods´ agent, Mark Steinberg, sent an email to ESPN Monday that he´s not yet ruling out the PGA Championship after re-injuring his surgical back and walking off Firestone Country Club Sunday. (Snip) Spinal specialist Dr. Stefan Prada told the Daily News he wouldn´t expect Woods this week even if it turns out to be less serious than it appears. "There´s always the chance but he looked pretty uncomfortable and he talked about back spasms," Prada said. "Those are hard to get

His caddie is at Valhalla today scoping out the course.

We watched the whole thing on Sunday, which was all Tiger until and after he took himself out. Tiger did not appear to feel any pain after his awkward shot and clumsy drop back (on foot) into the bunker. In fact, he literally bounded out of the bunker and continued playing. That was on 2. By 8, his round was a disaster. But so have other rounds been recently. I believe he decided to pack it in, use the incident at 2 to the fullest advantage, and save himself for the

The bum always fakes an injury whenever he´s hopelessly out of a tournament.

He just can´t stand to trail along in 58th place - - and finish out the round.

Fortunately - - he´ll be lagging badly in lots of future tournaments - - until it gets to the point where he realizes that he´l never win another major - - and quits on the whole idea.

The world of golf - - and the world at large - - will be a much better place when this jerk is no longer in our faces.

Tiger was one of the greatest golfers in history in his prime. But his prime is clearly behind him. No matter the hype we heard for years, he wasn´t the greatest, and he isn´t going to win more majors than anyone else.

Sadly, he allowed himself to be used for race baiting all during his career. I guess it was money in the bank for him. But it´s sad that great athletes just can´t put race aside and just be known as a great athlete -- not a great black athlete.

One of the most infuriating things about him, and Obie, and others like them, is that they take us for fools.

They are far more unintentionally transparent than they realize.

They insult our intelligence.

I too figures that Tiger was at the bottom yesterday. As I recall Bubba was the only one with a worse score. After Bubba got past Tiger, Tiger decided to fold it. To play 10 more holes only to come in dead last? C´mon.

I knew that he´d probably show up for this week´s PGA, miraculously cured and pain-free... We´ll see...

A very promising young NFL player quit today at the dawn of what might have been a great career because the doctors told him he could injure his back permanently. His health was more important that any game. Maybe Tiger should take that young man´s example to heart and quit while he can still walk. That´s exactly what the young man said; he wanted to keep walking.

While don´t respect him as a person I am giving him the benefit of a doubt . . . he had serious surgery short time ago, he is no longer a spring chicken, he probably shouldn´t play until next year, his physical and mental stamina is way down as evidenced by his Sunday scores . . . a great talent that may be at the sunset of his career.

To give Tiger Woods the benefit of a doubt, which is somewhat contrary to my nature, he may have experienced delayed reaction back pain caused by the awkward shot on hole 2. As for the PGA, Valhalla is 7400+ yards, par 71. If Tiger does play, he´s in for a tough fight, especially if he continues to drive it sideways.

#12 is correct. His driver is his Achilles Heel. I still think he has swung too hard throughout his career. Now that he is no longer the big hitter he was he is still going after it way too hard. Ego maybe?. It´s making his misses worse. He used to be able to overcome a few bad tee shots with his talent but those days are in the past.

Still, I won´t rule him out. Like him or dislike him he was an amazing player. He may have one more major in him.

Tiger might have returned too soon to tournament golf after his March surgery. If he truly did reinjure his back yesterday--only he knows for sure--he might be looking at needing the better part of a year to recover completely. I know from personal experience that back injuries can reassert themselves at any time, and once they do, the player can forget about competition for a while. The golf swing is, after all, an unnatural movement that twists the spine back and forth on each full swing. And with a truly powerful player like Tiger, the knees absorb a lot of torque as well.

In 2013 Tiger won five times on Tour and was Player of the Year despite not winning any majors. I wouldn´t write off his future just yet. At his best, no one was ever better. And 38--he´ll be 39 December 30--is far from old for a professional golfer. Will he ever again be as good as he was in 1999-2002 or in 2006-2008? Doubtful, but even at diminished capacity, he´s better than all but the top few. His psyche is in worse shape than his body now, and might be more difficult to put back together.

IMO, Rory McIlroy, the first true Alpha #1 player since Tiger in his prime, is going to be hard to beat over the next decade. That young fellow has a world of talent. He´s well on the way to becoming one of history´s greatest players. He impresses the heck out of me, as Tiger once did.
