Chuck Schumer presses to ban drone
from spying on homes, businesses

Washington Times, by Cheryl K. Chumley

Original Article

Sen. Chuck Schumer said the federal government needs to hurry up and issue guidelines to stop drones from spying on innocent Americans. “New York City is the Wild West of drones,” the New York Democrat said, the New York Daily News reported. “The FAA plain and simple needs to stop dragging its feet.” Mr. Schumer said both the Federal Aviation Administration and the Commerce Department are supposed to have privacy flight rules for drones in ink before the end of the year — but that agency officials are moving too slow to keep pace with the rapidly emerging technology. He said he specifically wants guidelines that prohibit drone

Comments:
It use to be that you had to just worry about that occasional light plane that buzzed your back yard. Then, the paparazzi raised the states by getting helicopters to fly at will on celerities. Now, with data links that track phone calls and video capability, there are more sensitive things that can be captured by the knowledgeable person or corporation. And, regrettably, hackers of all types are admired mostly by a bored electorate. So, it´ll be interesting if Schumer can get any traction on this issue, considering that delivery companies want use of these drones, as well.

Here´s the truth, if I see one of those hovering close to my house, I will be shooting it down.

Now, they might have some advantages that they can fly at a certain altitude and/or there are considerations of firing off a gun in a residential area.

Fine, how about a CO2 powered "model" rocket dragging a big string net behind it....just get close enough to snag the thing up.

Or, a very very good paint ball rifle. Lots of ideas.

My best idea is to build a short range scanner that will lock onto what signal they are using, and pilot the thing into the ground.

If it causes property damage, that will be the fault of the organization flying it. Go ahead, try to trace it to me.

I imagine if you are living in a suburban area - spy drones can be problem.

But - here in Manhattan - I can´t imagine how that would work.

What is Chuck doing that he doesn´t want to be spied on? They are already listening in on his phone calls and monitoring his computer.

These devices are just radio controlled "choppers". How about radio controlled airplanes? How about balloons?

The likely sticking point is if the "drone" carries a camera (or the model airplane, or ballon). If your yard is enclosed in a fence, you have the expectation of privacy and can sue the pants off of any use of photos over your fence.

Perhaps we just need to make the punishment for peeping toms very very harsh.

Whatever Chuck, the real question is what kind of handgun do you carry and do you have an extra special NY state permit that lets you take it anywhere you want? I guess some would be surprised that Chuck is armed, along with Fienstien and other democrat gun banners. To be fair, they are special and you aren´t.

#10, not if everyone is shooting it down. Or, preferably, jamming the signal and crashing it.

Good luck trying to find where that signal is coming from, and proving who was using it.

The Federal government has absolutely no right to fly an object with cameras and/or weapons and hover it over your house.

If you want to just cower and state "I am afraid of the FBI" you are just the kind of guy that totalitarian states love to roll right over.

Berlin - President Obama´s declaration of war against the terrorist group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria marks a decisive break in the American constitutional tradition. Nothing attempted by his predecessor, George W. Bush, remotely compares in imperial hubris. Mr. Bush gained explicit congressional consent for his invasions (Snip) Mr. Obama may rightly be frustrated by gridlock in Washington, but his assault on the rule of law is a devastating setback for our constitutional order. A Democratic election year push to amend the Constitution and roll back campaign-spending free speech rights ran out of steam Thursday and fell victim to a Senate filibuster. Holding the vote, even in defeat, was a major political goal for Democrats during the two-week session of Congress. The amendment Democratic leaders proposed would have given Congress and state legislatures the ability to set “reasonable” limits on how much

Analysts and U.S. officials initially estimated there were as many as 10,000 fighters, including those who were freed from prisons by ISIS, and Sunni loyalists who have joined the fight as the group advanced across Iraq. A man jumped the perimeter fence of the White House on Thursday, jangling nerves on the 13th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Witnesses said he was quickly apprehended by two armed Secret Service officers who had scrambled to intercept him. The White House complex, as is standard procedure in such incidents — which are common — was locked down and people were prevented from entering and leaving the grounds. US President Barack Obama was not at home at the time because he was taking part in an event elsewhere in Washington to mark the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true.
