Obama: ´Russia doesn´t make
anything,´ West must be firm with China

Reuters, by Roberta Rampton

Original Article

Posted By:NorthernDog, 8/3/2014 6:33:13 PM

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama dismissed Russia as a nation that "doesn´t make anything" and said in an interview with the Economist magazine that the West needs to be "pretty firm" with China as Beijing pushes to expand its role in the world economy. (Snip) Russia is the world´s third-largest oil producer and second-largest natural gas producer. Europe relies heavily on Russian energy exports, complicating the West´s response to the Ukraine crisis. Obama downplayed Moscow´s role in the world, dismissing President Vladimir Putin as a leader causing short-term trouble for political gain that will hurt Russia in the long term.

Comments:
Blithe ignorance is not being tough. As the article mentions in passing, they are a huge producer of raw materials, many of which Obama undoubtedly cannot pronounce.

They don´t "make anything" because 70 years of authoritarian government and central planning left them unable to compete in the marketplace. Zero and his ilk obviously learned nothing from their failures.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military is spending as much as $10 million per day on its new air war against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, a relative pittance compared with the hundreds of millions it spent fighting every day in Afghanistan in 2013. The costs in Iraq and Syria will escalate substantially if, as President Obama and Pentagon officials have said, the new war lasts for years, according to military analysts. Flying and maintaining warplanes requires a substantial investment in weaponry and personnel. "If airstrikes in Syria and Iraq continue for as long as the president predicts, they

Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory.
