BBC ´angers Muslim staff´ by hosting hog
roast to celebrate Commonwealth Games
under the windows of Arabic TV service

Daily Mail [UK], by Mia de Graff

Original Article

The BBC has enraged Muslim staff after holding a hog roast to celebrate the Commonwealth Games - under the windows of the Arabic TV service. An entire pig was spit-roasted in the courtyard of New Broadcasting House, central London, with wafts of meat drifting up to the predominantly Muslim office. Staff in the department whose religion bans them from eating pork blasted the ´horror´ at spotting the carcass on their lunch break. The event on Friday, celebrating the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, was held just days after the close of Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims for spiritual reflection.

Comments:
Opinions expressed in reader comments are overwhelmingly in favor of outdoor hog roasts anywhere in the UK.

I´m starting to think that the aversion to swine that these beasts have is akin that which the rest of world harbors when contemplating cannibalism.

I´m glad to see the Brits standing up to Muslim "sensitivities". It´s just their way to impose their 8th century culture on the rest if the world.

"Muslims angered" is getting tiresome. They´re always angry. They live for angry.

One is very tempted to use brown words and f-bombs to express our reactions to stories that tell us that Muslims are angry again over something non-Muslims have done to insult their religion.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, with barbequed smoked pork ribs wrapped in bacon and served with thinly-sliced prosciutto. If that makes you angry, you know where the door is.

There´s nothing like a good pig roast, especially on a winter´s day when the ground is covered by snow. The best way to deal with the professional grievance mongers is to rub their noses in whatever makes them angriest, and Jehannum Particles from swine suffice nicely for Moslems. The only way to improve this story would be to spit-roast that irritating Geico piglet that won´t shut up about the insurance apps on his smart phone. He belongs at Waffle House, well done and, for once, silent.

Number 18: Actually, Israel virtually eliminated bus suicide bombings by installing a glass vial of pig fat in the interior of each bus. A suicide bomber on a bus would have his mortal remains infused and intermixed with the pig fat and by his religion, would be denied paradise.

islamic moro terrorists in the Philippines were subject to the rumor of rifle and pistol rounds used against them being dipped in pig fat, and the occasional burial of battefield dead being wrapped in pig carcass and buried face down. It slowed the onslaughts.

#34, the British love their bacon sarnies, eggs and bacon and pork sausages (and maybe Spam), pork roast, gammon rashers, pork pies and pork chops. For example, I did not crave pickles or strawberry ice cream when I was pregnant, but would kill for a bacon sandwich with Branston pickle.

There are numerous naifs among the young (and older) workers at the Beeb. I strongly suspect that although they know Muslims don´t eat pork they don´t mind if you cook it and eat it yourself (as British Jews don´t care). It never occurred to the naifs that Muslims would have such a hissy fit over the delicious aroma of roast pork.

I suspect they still don´t understand how and why this reaction came about. It could start a whole different attitude about Muslims in the UK.

#14 and 16, it should come as no surprise if pig flaunts replace hog roasts in the vernacular. I like that immensely. Even better than freedom fries.

The support of Parliament for British participation in air strikes in northern Iraq is welcome but leaves crucial questions unanswered. The most serious flaw in the international response to the Islamic State threat is the failure to see Iraq and Syria requiring a common military and political strategy. The Islamic State terrorists have, effectively, abolished the international border between these two countries. To some extent this has been recognised by the United States, which has launched air strikes against terrorist targets in both countries. These air strikes, over a period of weeks, are likely to have a serious degrading effect on the terrorist

There is a sense of relief across the political spectrum that Britain is finally doing something in Iraq. It was impossible to tolerate the advance of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) any longer, and now the UK finds itself part of an international effort with parameters of action that, the public is assured, will not lead to long-term troop presence or nation-building. Thanks in part to a rigorous parliamentary debate, the British people understand why they are in Iraq somewhat better than they did in 2003. [Snip] But what will happen next? Attorney General Eric Holder´s abrupt announcement that he intends to leave the Obama administration as soon as the president is able to find someone to take over for him was initiated by his doctor wife´s concerns about his health, a news report revealed on Thursday. Holder was rushed in an ambulance to a Washington, D.C. hospital in February after feeling faint and having a shortness of breath. [Snip] Politico Magazine reported on Thursday that ´under pressure´ from his wife, Sharon Malone, an obstetrician and gynecologist, Holder decided to make the jump now before Republicans potentially take over the Senate in

In an update on Friday afternoon, one of the country´s leading independent political handicappers broadened its assessment of how many House seats Republicans are likely to win this fall. "Regardless of whether you want to call it a wave," wrote the Rothenberg Political Report´s Nathan Gonzales -- the sort of qualifier that will keep Democratic operatives up at night -- "the fight for the House continues to creep into Democratic territory." Talk of a Republican tsunami made us wonder: Where could the 114th Congress stand on the list of the most-lopsided Houses in history? After all, the party has rolled

If I were a scientist, I´d stick to the Goldman Sachs principle: bet on both sides. "Believe in science, believe in God" seems to cover all the possibilities and gives you the best chance for a cheery afterlife. For a time, it was thought that astrophysicist Stephen Hawking had also left a tiny gap in his credo window for a magical deity. However, he has now come out and declared that there is no God. (Snip...) "Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation."

When the U.S. military strikes, its leaders often choose colorful code names for the operation that sometimes stick in history, like Operation Overlord or Rolling Thunder or Desert Storm. Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said Thursday. Since World War II, almost every U.S. military operation, large and small, has had a code name. And that name usually sticks when veterans talk about the conflicts in which they participated, such

Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory. The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new
