Bibi At 28
Power Line, by Steven Hayward

Original Article

Posted By:MDMuskrat, 8/2/2014 3:20:49 PM

The video below shows 10 minutes of a 28 year old Bibi Netanyahu (identified as Ben Nitay for some reason) appearing on the old PBS show “The Advocates” commenting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He handles Fouad Ajami quite easily. Worth a look. [This is all the text. It is the video that´s astounding.]

Comments:
I thought I could not respect Netanyahu more...until I watched this video. Also, please note where Steve is posting from.

Since he and his brother, Jonathan, went to the same high school outside Philly that Mark Levin attended (they were classmates) and Bibi´s an MIT graduate, I choose to take some American pride in him.

From wikipedia (link at the end)...in 1977...he changed his name to Benjamin Ben Nitai (Nitai, a reference to both Mount Nitai and to the eponymous Jewish sage Nittai of Arbela, was a pen name often used by his father for articles).Years later, in an interview with the media, Netanyahu clarified that he decided to do so to make it easier for Americans to pronounce his name. This fact has been used by his political rivals to accuse him indirectly of a lack of Israeli national identity and loyalty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Netanyahu

In looking through my biblical reference, the name Netanyahu is rooted in "Metanyahu" which means "Gift from God". It is the base root for the modern name and biblical name, Matthew.

But, in reality, it has no existing modern meaning that I can find. So, this could be completely wrong.

But, personally, I consider God gives us what we need when we need it. So....I´m good with "Gift from God".

It would have taken very little time and effort for Hayward to go to Bibi´s Wikipedia biography site where he´d have found this:

He then returned to the United States and eventually completed an S.B. degree[19] in architecture[20] in 1975 and earned an S.M.[19] degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1977. Concurrently, he studied political science at Harvard University.[21][22] At that time he changed his name to Benjamin Ben Nitai (Nitai, a reference to both Mount Nitai and to the eponymous Jewish sage Nittai of Arbela, was a pen name often used by his father for articles).[16][23] Years later, in an interview with the media, Netanyahu clarified that he decided to do so to make it easier for Americans to pronounce his name.

apparently his father had used Nitay as a pen name. no way anyone ever accused his father of not being Israeli enough. Netanyahu´s American education is part of the reason Israel garners American support - he understands us and knows how to communicate with us. he used it in his many jobs in the past to good effect. he is unbelievably impressive for a 28 year old in the clip. he is unbelievable impressive - period.

Super catch, OP. I´ve been impressed by Netanyahu since I first became aware of him--when he lost his older brother, a heroic man who was killed during the rescue of roughly 100 hostaqes of a hijacked Air France plane which terrorists flew to Entebbe in 1976. From the Wikipedia entry:

Operation Entebbe, which had the military codename Operation Thunderbolt, is sometimes referred to retroactively as Operation Jonathan in memory of the unit´s leader, Yonatan Netanyahu. He was the older brother of Benjamin Netanyahu, the current Prime Minister of Israel.

Isn´t it strange, #4, that Bibi used a different name simply because his family name is somewhat difficult for westnerners to pronounce, later being accused of "a lack of Israeli national identity and loyalty" by adversaries? We have Hillary Clinton who is sometimes Hillary Rodham and sometimes not, and Barack Obama who doesn´t use his middle name Hussein, both for political gain.

My first name is one everyone here would comment on because it´s the same name as a famous woman who is much reviled by conservatives (and rightly so!). But I haven´t changed it because my father wanted the name for me--he was smitten by a forties movie star with the same name and I´ll be damned if I´ll change it because That Woman was given it!

The "Advocates" discussion reminds me of a time when most people could discuss an issue without it being smothered by lying, prevaricating or obfuscating--in other words, with truth, and honor. I´m even more ashamed of our leaders now. Is it any wonder Netanyahu has what is now undisguised contempt for Kerry, Biden and Obama, et al.?

Thanks, OP.

No expense had been spared by the organisers of the $1.5m event. The stage of New York’s Madison Square Garden was filled with dancers in traditional dress, while a laser show and holograms of historical Indian figures lit up the backdrop. Shots of rising skyscrapers, microchip factories and Asia’s largest solar-energy plant were framed by balloons in the colours of the Indian and US flags. When Narendra Modi, the new prime minister of India, took to the stage on Sunday night, he told the wildly enthusiastic audience that the 21st century would belong to Asia, and possibly to his own

Swiss voters on Sunday rejected a plan for a seismic shift from the country´s all-private health insurance system to a state-run scheme. Referendum results showed that almost 62 percent of voters had shot down a reform pushed by left-leaning parties which say the current private system is busting the budgets of ordinary residents. The results also underlined the national divisions over the hotly-contested issue as the country´s German-speaking regions voted against the plan, while their French-speaking counterparts were in favour. Switzerland´s private insurance lobby hailed the vote. "The Swiss population does not want a single national scheme," said the Swiss

Just three years after France´s upper house Senate made history with its first ever swing to the left, the right is expected to claw back a majority Sunday in a new setback for Socialist President Francois Hollande. The far-right National Front could also win a seat for the first time, as more than 87,500 regional and local elected officials nationwide vote for their preferred candidate, six months after the Socialists suffered a drubbing in municipal polls that saw the right make significant gains.
