Massachusetts lawmakers sent a bill to Gov. Deval Patrick’s desk for passage that puts police chiefs in charge of deciding whether or not a person is fit enough to own a gun — and gives them the power to deny purchases in certain cases. “We seek not to be the safest state in the nation, but strive to make our communities the safest in the world,” said House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Reuters reported. Mr. Patrick supports the measure and is expected to sign it into law soon. Critics say the new authority for police holds potential to become a Second

No doubt, being a contributor to the Police Benevolent Association will be a prerequisite to being deemed "fit."
Note that this not only applies to handguns, but to rifles and shotguns as well

The first amendment starts "Congress shall make no law".
The second amendment ENDS "shall not be infringed"

Per the Constitution the right to "bear arms" is better protected than speech.

I guess you need multiple years of college and law school to learn how to turn these VERY clear and simple terms on their head.

I guess I´m doomed to see the world slide into mass stupidity. Mass ´lawmakers´ come up with this nonsense pretending the citizens of that state are safer than Vermonters next door. You basically can´t buy or carry a handgun in Mass, unless you are a criminal, yet in Vermont all you need is to be a resident of that state. Do I really have to compare the crime rates?

I guess it is a little safer in Mass, but that is only because Ted Kennedy can´t drive anymore.

WASHINGTON— Michelle Obama says she speaks for all women in saying she´s glad that Narciso Rodriguez became a fashion designer. Rodriguez is among winners of the 2014 National Design Awards and attended an annual White House luncheon the first lady held Tuesday for the group. She also wore one of Rodriguez´s designs: a sleeveless, eggplant-colored sheath dress. Mrs. Obama saluted the winners for having some of the "most daring and creative minds in the world." President Obama gave an interview on 60 Minutes this past weekend. It seems that few people were watching. Deadline Hollywood, self-described as “[t]he definitive choice for industry insiders,” noted that 60 Minutes ratings were “off by 69% from last Sunday, when it directly followed the game.” Meaning that an NFL game preceding 60 Minutes is responsible for the show’s typically strong ratings. Specifically, 60 Minutes had 17.9 million viewers on September 21 but only 9.7 million viewers the following week on September 28, when Steve Kroft interviewed the president. The LA Times wrote about overall TV ratings of all shows

Attorney General Eric Holder, who announced his resignation on Thursday, leaves a dismal legacy at the Justice Department, but one of his legal innovations was especially pernicious: the demonizing of state attempts to ensure honest elections. As a former U.S. attorney general under President Reagan, and a former Ohio secretary of state, we would like to say something that might strike some as obvious: Those who oppose photo voter-ID laws and other election-integrity reforms are intent on making it easier to commit vote fraud. That conclusion is inescapable, given the well-established evidence that voter-ID laws don´t disenfranchise minorities or reduce
