Massachusetts lawmakers pass
bill tightening state gun laws

BOSTON - Massachusetts lawmakers on Friday tightened the state´s already strict gun laws by passing a measure that gives police chiefs authority to turn down a resident´s requests to buy a rifle or shotgun if they believe the person may be a danger. House lawmakers overrode objections from gun-rights advocates in the state Senate who had opposed the measure, worrying that police chiefs could abuse the authority to deny firearms to law-abiding citizens. "We seek not to be the safest state in the nation but strive to make our communities the safest in the world," said House Speaker Robert DeLeo, a Democrat. The

Comments:
That is just stunning. The wacko Democrat House Speaker said he "strives to make our communities the safest in the world." These people are insane and a danger to society. It appears that no filthy intruder in Massachusetts will get to experience the joy of hearing the distinctive sound of a shotgun being readied to fire.

The right of a law abiding United States citizen to "keep and bear" a firearm supersedes that of anyone who possesses such a firearm by virtue of their official role. Our Republic is based on the clear assumption that citizens do not require official permission. This is an outrage that goes right to the heart of our existence as a lawful Republic. Only in Massachusetts.

NEW YORK - Protecting the infrastructure of American cities from the effects of climate change is rising on the agenda of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to a top agency official. "Increasingly, we´ve moved not only from a security focus to a resiliency focus," said Caitlin Durkovich, assistant secretary for infrastructure protection at Homeland Security, an agency better known for its fight to curb terrorist threats. A sniffling Attorney General Eric Holder fought back tears on Thursday as President Barack Obama praised his legal legacy and wished him well outside the federal govermnent. Although Holder will leave the Justice Department under a cloudbank of controversies, the president gushed in a stirring political eulogy that ´he believes, as I do, that justice is not just an abstract theory. It’s a living and breathing principle.´ Holder told a televised White House gathering that he has ´very mixed emotions´ about his departure, which is on hold until his replacement can win Senate confirmation. UNITED NATIONS — President Barack Obama is carving out a wide swath the Pacific Ocean for an expanded marine preserve, putting the waters off-limits to drilling and most fishing in a bid to protect fragile underwater life. The revamped expanded Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument will cover 490,000 square miles - an area roughly three times the size of California - and will become the largest marine preserve in the world. Millions of seabirds, sea turtles and marine mammals live in the bio-rich expanse included by the new monument, which will also add new protections for more than 130

This is what we’ve come to: One of Mitt Romney’s former ad men has launched an entire campaign around the idea that “Republicans Are People, Too.” And, unsurprisingly, some liberals are amused. MSNBC’s Steve Benen derided the message as “overly defensive” and wrote: “If you have to remind the public that Republicans ‘are people’ and ‘have emotions,’ then you’re implicitly suggesting that Republicans’ basic humanity is, at least for some, in doubt.” Well…sometimes, yeah, it is in doubt.
