Changeling Charlie’s vow
to go Total Obama

Tampa Tribune, by Tom Jackson

Original Article

Now that everyone’s favorite Republican-turned-independent-turned-Democrat has announced he is prepared to go Total Obama from Day 1 if he’s restored to the governor’s mansion, voters can’t be blamed for wondering whether Charlie Crist really wants the job. Maybe he’s already moved on to the Next Big Thing. After all, the most recent polls indicate thorough dissatisfaction with President Obama. Not only is he upside-down on virtually every measurable facet of his job performance, CNN recently and famously found if we took an election mulligan, the golfer-in-chief would lose to Republican Mitt Romney in a landslide. Nonetheless, here comes Crist, within

Comments:
If his second run at the governor´s office is successful--heaven forfend--Crist plans a flurry of feelgood executive orders on minumum wage and on granting special rights to the LGBT crowd, which will probably end up in court. Crist´s employer, strike lawyer John Morgan, would probably like a piece of that action.

For Crist´s sake, can´t he/she just GO AWAY? I gotta feeling he´s a lot closer to the LGBT community than he´s ´come out´ and admitted.

Reminds me of that South park episode lampooning Scientology. Tom Cruise ends up in one of the boys´ house hiding in the bedroom closet. People try to cajole him out, but the repeated line was, "Tom Cruise won´t come out of the closet! Tom, PLEASE come out of the closet..."

Probably better than some of the other things he´s "gone" - like at the Green Iguana.

If you look closely, you’ll see almost all conservative writers dance around the fact that Charlie Crist is a gay man with a beard (and not the kind you can shave away with a Gillette). He married novelty-products heiress Carole Rome a few years ago (whose parents owned a company that sells rubber vomit and plastic dog feces) in the same way that a lot of Hollywood actors (such as guys like Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Will Smith, Seann William Scott, Hugh Jackman, and their predecessors like Rock Hudson…checkout BlindGossip for more, but be warned because you could spend all day there solving riddles) ostensibly have wives but are quite openly gay to people who spend a lot of time around them.

Charlie Crist used to hang out quite frequently in a gay bar in Tampa called the Green Iguana, where he often appeared in drag and called himself “Charlotte Sweet”, a riff on the movie “Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte”.

My thanks to #5 for the Hillbuzz link. Kevin DuJan is devastatingly on target, especially in his undercover reporting on what people do and try to keep hidden. Tangerine Charlie, indeed! May his political boat capsize and sink three months from now. (What DuJan writes about Obama is equally entertaining.)

There is an unfortunate tendency to regard organizations like ISIS, Hamas or Hezbollah as a rag-tag agglomeration of mindless fanatics. (Snip) Churchill is full of admiration for the Islamic warrior, but he is brimming with contempt for its productive flank. The neglected, boring area of workaday life is the secret sword of the West. Ronald Reagan’s America beat the Sovs by outflanking them. Even though the Cold War was militarily stalemated in the late 1980s the Soviet productive front was wide open and the West rampaged through it. It was not obvious at first to people who counted only divisions,

The story goes that there was once a young Prince who, being inexperienced, was taken to the cleaners during a negotiation with his wily Vizier. (Snip) That progression turned out to be more than all the wheat in the Islamic world. It was certainly more than the Prince had in his kingdom. The Wheat and Chessboard problem is an object example of the dangers of underestimating the power of exponents. That property was invoked by Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg who warned Deutsche Welle that Liberia and Sierra Leone are now lost to

The punditry struggled to find something enlightening to say about president Obama’s strategy to degrade … defeat … inconvenience … manage ISIS — whatever you want to call it — because there was almost nothing to hold on to. (Snip) As I also predicted, Russia is already busy muddying the waters. “Russia blasts Obama for planned ‘act of aggression’ against ISIS as Iran and Syria warn he could trigger ‘first sparks of fire’ in the Middle East.” Russia, Syria and Iran are forming a coalition against Obama’s coalition. The phrase “first sparks of fire” are doubtless intended by the Russians

New Year’s Eve before January 1, 2000 was so long ago that it is hard to remember that it was the future. (Snip) NASA, which had once landed on the moon in 1969, had been relegated to boosting the self-esteem of the Muslim world. But the biggest difference for people who lived in what used to be called the First World is that the future now meant desirable poverty. This feature is called sustainability. Horizons were now meant to shrink. The small gulp softdrink or the Michelle Obama school lunch were now signs of conspicuous nonconsumption. Gone were the days

Richard Epstein at the Hoover Institution has an interesting article on president Obama’s apparent reluctance to use certain kinds of force to defeat ISIS. (Snip) But too much of a focus on the president’s world view risks perpetuating the false problem between the doves and the hawks and emphasizing the bogus choice between those who are temperamentally inclined to peace and those who thirst for war. These characterizations are beside the point. In reality all good security decisions — even those that use war or violence as much as those which do not to attain their aims are ultimately violence

In a few days president Obama will unveil his strategy to destroy ISIS to a waiting public. (Snip) However the basic outlines of the strategy itself have emerged from information already available to the press. A Los Angeles Times story suggests that Obama will rely on proxies to fight ISIS at three levels: on the ground, within the region and in the West. Kerry invokes comparisons to the Sunni Awakening, seeking to recall the days when al-Qaeda in Iraq was beaten by George Bush. Obama plans to organize the Sunni Arabs to fight ISIS.

Nothing expresses Putin’s determination to humiliate Obama as much as the kidnapping an Estonian intelligence officer in Estonia and abducting him to Russia only hours after the president assured the Baltics of Western protection. Max Fisher at Vox says: “This is bad: Russia ‘abducts’ Estonian officer after Obama says US will defend Estonia”. Much of today’s commentary revolves around the president’s inability to articulate a policy towards ISIS. The president was pressed in Estonia to outline his plans amid multiple crises, especially in the aftermath of Steven Sotloff’s decapitation. President Obama in his ISIS speech did his best to convince the American people that things are under control, that he will pursue a coalition with other nations to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS and that he will do it only through air strikes. This week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) slandered a group of Middle Eastern Christians who were trying to raise awareness of their struggle to avoid a genocide in the Middle East. His cynical grandstanding was rightly condemned — but he was hardly alone. Cruz agreed to speak to this group, which included bishops of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, ostensibly out of solidarity, but took the occasion to antagonize them over their insufficient praise for Israel, then smeared them as anti-Semites before dropping the mic. The report by the California Attorney General´s office is the first time the data has been broken down according to race and income levels. Officials say such data is needed to address the problem. Poverty and suspensions are contributing factors. Overall, more than 250,000 elementary school students missed 10 percent or more of the 2013-2014 school year or roughly 18 or more school days. Voter turnout during last month´s primary races was a little too good in some counties, Arizona elections officials said Friday. Some precincts in northern Arizona tallied more ballots cast than there are registered voters, the Arizona Capitol Times reported. According to officials, errors made by poll workers and elections officials in Apache and Navajo counties led to the miscalculations. Initial reports from some precincts showed a turnout of anywhere from 200 to 400 percent. In Apache County, the Puerco West precinct reportedly had 100 votes cast, but only 23 voters are registered there. The voter turnout added up to 434

Check your hygiene privilege. Cabbies who smell badly are probably just oppressed folks who came directly from their terrorist training camp to the airport and didn’t have time to change. Body odour is among 52 criteria that officials at San Diego International Airport use to judge taxi drivers. Cabbies say that smacks of prejudice and discrimination. It does discriminate between cabbies who smell like an open sewer and those who don’t. It further prejudges what a good smell is.

Let’s start with the end. When it’s over — when you make it through the marathon that is Ken Burns’s beautiful, seven-part documentary “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History,” which begins Sunday night on PBS — you may find yourself with a lingering, nebulous grief. You’re sorry it’s over. You’re sorry they’re over. You’re sorry a certain expression of American ideals is, or often appears to be, completely over. My study habits haven’t improved since college; like an idiot, I put off watching all 14 hours of “The Roosevelts” until I absolutely had to watch them on a deadline binge this week.
