Two more costly losses for public unions
Investor´s Business Daily, by Andrew Malcolm

Original Article

Posted By:SurferLad, 8/1/2014 10:27:43 AM

Here´s a little good news story you won´t find in many places today. First, it doesn´t come out of Washington, D.C., which you already knew because it´s Good News. Second, it´s another victory in the little-noticed ongoing legal guerrilla war between conservatives and state government unions. Actually, two victories. It concerns workers who provide daycare services for low-income families across Illinois and receive state subsidies.

Tardy Obama talks tough on ISIS.
But can anyone really believe him?

Finally! Barack Obama spoke like a president Wednesday night. In his long overdue national address to Americans on the terrorist threat of ISIS, he spoke with clear purpose, well-crafted phrases and reasoning that made sense to attentive ears. He listed specific actions to degrade and destroy these masked murderers. He looked firm, resolute and determined to address this foreign threat that has frightened his countrymen. [Snip] Unfortunately, these 1,985 well-spoken words of Obama’s come in the context of a presidency that’s been degraded and virtually destroyed by his own actions -- and inactions.

President Obama was not trying to be funny when he informed NBC´s newest TV host that the presidency involves an element of theater. No kidding, Barack. But it came out hilariously from the guy who gave his 2008 nomination acceptance speech with a backdrop of fake Greek columns -- in Denver. [Snip] “Part of this job," Obama told Chuck Todd, "is also the theater of it. Well, it´s not something that always comes naturally to me." (Nationwide laughter.) Obama´s entire presidency -- every one of the 2,963,520 minutes of it -- has been about show biz.

The fact that Barack Obama is still fundraising at a record pace nearly two years after his final legal election isn´t surprising. Nor that his people are doing it while the boss traveled abroad dominating TV news through predictable photo-ops with other NATO leaders. All while ISIS continues its appalling slaughter in Iraq and Syria and Russia´s Putin prolongs his armed absorption of Ukraine. After all, no Democrat candidate in their left mind who´s interested in actually competing come Nov. 4 wants to be seen anywhere near this guy. Vice President Joe Biden gives President Obama´s weekly remarks: Ladies and gentlemen, this is Joe Biden, I’m filling in for President Obama, while he addresses the NATO summit in Wales. When the President and I took office in January of 2009, this nation was in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the great depression. Our economy had plummeted at a rate of 8% in a single quarter — part of the fastest economic decline any time in the last half century. Millions of families were falling underwater on their homes and threatened with foreclosure. The iconic American automobile industry was under siege.

For someone who entered America´s national life as a bright man who was a Real Good Talker, Barack Obama has slid precipitously, not just in the polls but in public perceptions. Of course, he would never admit it; in fact, he would never comprehend it. But this continuing decline is, in large part, his own fault. Like cake, Obama wants his rhetoric and credibility too. [Snip] Does the president of the United States have any core beliefs lasting longer than a paragraph?

People seem to be reading into President Obama´s positions on ISIS pretty much whatever they want to see: He´s wise and deliberate. He´s indecisive. He´s so far-sighted that ordinary Americans may be incapable of grasping his intellect. He´s late, as always, inept and clueless about dangerous issues of grave concern to nationwide. As Americans see countrymen beheaded on graphic videos, Obama and his team consistently seek to minimize spreading foreign violence as regional "challenges."

President Obama gave the most amazing news conference Thursday. He´d hoped to highlight mildly encouraging news on the economy, which he says is Americans´ top priority. But Obama´s current JV communications strategists should have known that was futile, given the winds of war blowing and exploding around the world. Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, ISIS, China all underscoring the perceived weakness and inaction of the American leader who so badly wants his mere words to sway events. Obama says the Muslim extremists, whose barbarism brings a whole new meaning to the word 'extremists," do not belong in the 21st century.

President Obama is enduring an awful summer of domestic troubles, foreign tragedies and a lost national narrative that´s put him on the defensive. He´ll try to recapture control of the country´s political dialogue next month by igniting an emotional controversy over legalizing illegal aliens. But Tuesday the Democrat was in Charlotte to describe to American Legion members an exotic foreign land where November voters should be delighted to keep his party members in office. Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

Berlin - President Obama´s declaration of war against the terrorist group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria marks a decisive break in the American constitutional tradition. Nothing attempted by his predecessor, George W. Bush, remotely compares in imperial hubris. Mr. Bush gained explicit congressional consent for his invasions (Snip) Mr. Obama may rightly be frustrated by gridlock in Washington, but his assault on the rule of law is a devastating setback for our constitutional order. His refusal even to ask the Justice Department to provide a formal legal pretext for the war on ISIS is astonishing.

SAN DIEGO — African-American elementary students in California were chronically truant at nearly four times the rate of all students during the last school year, according to a state report released Friday. The report by the California Attorney General´s office is the first time the data has been broken down according to race and income levels. Officials say such data is needed to address the problem. Poverty and suspensions are contributing factors. Overall, more than 250,000 elementary school students missed 10 percent or more of the 2013-2014 school year or roughly 18 or more school days. The absences were highest at the kindergarten and

Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." He didn´t say they are perverting their religion; he said they´re not even part of that religion. Check your hygiene privilege. Cabbies who smell badly are probably just oppressed folks who came directly from their terrorist training camp to the airport and didn’t have time to change. Body odour is among 52 criteria that officials at San Diego International Airport use to judge taxi drivers. Cabbies say that smacks of prejudice and discrimination. It does discriminate between cabbies who smell like an open sewer and those who don’t. It further prejudges what a good smell is.
