cease-fire ends in rocket fire

Washington Times, by Cheryl K. Chumley

Original Article

Posted By:M2, 8/1/2014 7:48:26 AM

A three-day cease-fire between Israel and Hamas lasted just a couple hours, ending Friday in rocket fire first from Gaza and then leading to the reported death of 17 Palestinians. Five Israeli soldiers were also killed, CBS News reported. The cease-fire was announced by the United States and the United Nations a few hours earlier and was aimed to take effect at 8 a.m. Further negotiations were supposed to go forth at that hour, but plans were disrupted by rocket fire from Gaza.

Ted Nugent slams ‘lying freaks’ at

Conservative firebrand Ted Nugent hit back at his detractors in the media who’ve characterized him as racist — and even pressed a couple of venues to cancel his concerts for alleged racist remarks he made — and he called them hateful destroyers of the truth. In a column that ran first at WND, Mr. Nugent said, “They say that if you’re taking flak, you must be over the target. Well, lo and behold, the old Motorcity guitars layer is not only directly over the target, I am obviously sitting deadcenter in the enemies’ own foxhole, driving them batty with my

n the end, the Senate couldn’t even agree to deliver emergency aid to one of the United States’ closest allies. A last-ditch effort to deliver aid to Israel during its war with Hamas died on the Senate floor, as Republicans blocked the proposal over concerns that it would increase the debt. After Senate Republicans blocked Democrats’ $2.7 billion border aid package, which also included $225 million for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system and $615 million to fight Western wildfires, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to split off the Israel and wildfire money as a standalone bill,...

A newly discovered email exchange from Lois Lerner´s official IRS email account "directly demonstrates Ms. Lerner´s deep animus towards conservatives, which she refers to as ´---holes,´" House Ways and Means Committee Chair Dave Camp wrote in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday. In that Nov. 9, 2012 email, Lerner further suggests that conservatives will ruin the country: "So we don´t need to worry about alien teRrorists (sic). It´s our own crazies that will take us down," she wrote.

Americans are wary of granting refugee status to children crossing the U.S. border to flee strife-torn countries in Central America, and most in an Associated Press-GfK poll say the U.S. does not have a moral obligation to accept asylum seekers generally. The new poll found 53 percent of Americans believe the United States has no moral obligation to offer asylum to people who escape violence or political persecution, while 44 percent believe it has that responsibility.

A federal appeals court has rejected a lawsuit by an atheist group seeking to stop the display of a cross-shaped steel beam found among the World Trade Center´s wreckage. Some time this week, 27-year-old Meriam Ibrahim is expected to arrive among relatives in Manchester, New Hampshire. She made international news for being sentenced to death in Sudan for her Christian faith, but she was able to get to Rome on July 24 and will be in Manchester soon. According to the Washington Examiner, "she and her family fled Sudan following the overturning of her conviction in late June." However, she was arrested again for allegedly "falsifying travel documents" as she and her family tried to get to the United States.

The Satanic Temple announced today that it wants its believers to be exempted from reading state-mandated materials and informed consent laws when expectant women try to receive an abortion, and they cited the recent Supreme Court Hobby Lobby decision as a basis for their exemption. In a statement released today, The Satanic Temple states: Informed consent bills requiring abortion providers to give their patients official "informational" material regarding the procedure have been criticized in the past for providing biased and false information to women in a bald effort at dissuading them from abortions. Such materials have included claims....

When U.S. troops invaded Iraq in 2003, there were at least 1.5 million Christians in Iraq. Over the last ten years, significantly in the last few months with the emergence of ISIS, that figure has dropped to about 400,000. In a region where Christians predate Muslims by centuries, over one million Christians have been killed or have had to flee because of jihadi persecution, while America is basically standing by and watching. (snip) ISIS has basically given an ultimatum to all the Christians left: You can either flee or convert to Islam, or we will kill you.”

Republicans in the House and Senate have voted thumbs down on President Obama´s request for $3.8 billion to deal with the crisis on our southern border. Most lawmakers think it´s too much money and not enough funds earmarked for border security. Washington Times: Even Texas Gov. Rick Perry, personally recruited by the president to persuade Republicans to support the measure, threw cold water on the idea. He said the president doesn’t need that much money and instead should send National Guard troops to secure the border.

A good friend of mine apologized to me today. You see, he voted for Barack Hussein Obama in the 2008 election and he lives in a so-called “swing state.” He told me that he had not voted for Obama in the 2012 election, but that he realized that by supporting him in 2008, he had help unleash a deadly virus onto the American scene. He simply said he was sorry. I think a good many Americans feel much the same as my good friend. They know that they were seduced by the very slick presentation that Barack Obama made in the

Will Mitt Romney please adopt me? Conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status had their applications denied by IRS bureaucrats who called them names like “crazies,” “rabid” and other words that can’t be printed in a family newspaper. The tax agency is supposed to be run by nonpartisan, career professionals, but the latest set of emails released by the House Ways and Means Committee suggest the agency is anything but. Until the scandal erupted last year, Lois G. Lerner was in charge of the IRS division overseeing tax-exempt organizations. Congressional investigators have spent months sifting through her emails — the ones that didn’t “go missing” — to find out

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura joined the “CBS This Morning” co-hosts Wednesday to discuss the details of his legal battle with a former U.S. sniper. On Tuesday a federal jury awarded Jesse Ventura $1.8 million in his case against Kyle’s widow. The former governor told CBS: “I’m already damaged. I can’t go to a SEAL reunion anymore. That was the one place I felt safe. I can’t go there anymore. I’ll be looking over my shoulder now wondering who’s going to come after me next. And, so don’t think I come out of this unscathed. All I wanted to do was clear my name and it has nothing to do with a widow or anything like that.

Perhaps it says something about us that our most interesting presidential candidates swear they won´t run for president. This is true of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and it´s increasingly true of Mitt Romney. As regular readers of this column know, I´ve never been much of a Romney booster. I´ve also expressed skepticism about the notion he would run again. But let´s not let "a foolish consistency" cloud our judgment. There is reason to believe that a third try wouldn´t be an absurd venture. First, in the intervening years since 2012 — and on a range of issues, not the least of which is

Karl Rove, former adviser to president George W. Referring to Obama as the “cynic in chief,” Rove said on Fox News’s On the Record that Obama is “suggesting a constitutional crisis” in an effort to “fatten the accounts of Democratic fundraising groups.” White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said last week that Congressional Republicans may take the path to impeach Obama.
