Gaza conflict: 72-hour ceasefire
´agreed by both sides´

Telegraph [UK], by Josie Ensor

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 7/31/2014 9:09:46 PM

Israel and Hamas have agreed to a three-day ceasefire, the UN and US have jointly announced. John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, said he had assurance from both sides that they would honour a 72-hour unconditional ceasefire, during which time negotiations on a more durable truce would be discussed in Cairo. [Snip] "During this period, civilians in Gaza will receive urgently needed humanitarian relief, and the opportunity to carry out vital functions, including burying the dead, taking care of the injured, and restocking food supplies," he said, adding the ceasefire was jointly announced with Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General.

Comments:
I know I just posted an article on this very same subject but I´d like you to compare this to the BBC version below. This shows that Kerry is taking the biggest part of the credit because "he had assurance from both sides." Hmmm, I´d like to see evidence of those assurances. He did add a by-the-way to the effect that "the ceasefire was jointly announced with Ban Ki-moon,the UN Secretary-General."

Poor John, he wants his own real peace prize so badly.

I would be willing to bet a large sum of money (it wouldn´t be gambling) that Hamas will break the cease fire first...

In the JPost version, there was this:

Hamas said it would abide by a three-day mutual cease-fire with Israel to begin early on Friday.

´Acknowledging a call by the United Nations and in consideration of the situation of our people, resistance factions agreed to a 72-hour humanitarian and
mutual calm that begins at 8 a.m on Friday as long as the other side abides by it,´ Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said." [Emphasis added.}

The IDF has already said it will continue its tunnel work until they´re all blown up, so it looks as if there won´t be much of a truce.

The Bush administration specifically warned Obama not to dignify the UN Human Rights Commission given that many members were totalitarian states that did not recognize human rights. All they will do is accuse the US of human rights violations. Once again the children (Obama and Hillary) learn that their parents do indeed know some things.

Gee, three days for Hamas to set up lots more booby traps, bring in more women and children for human shields, and re-arm.

Israel needs to stop "playing nice" and get this finished. Exterminate Hamas, and turn Gaza into a DMZ (complete with lots of mines and tunnel sensors)!!!!!!!

Tuesday’s major Washington Post-ABC News poll was one of the most significant surveys of public opinion released in the United States this year. It revealed a pronounced shift in thinking on America’s role in the world, which for a number of years had been gravitating towards isolationism. [Snip] The biggest catalyst for this change of thinking has been the rise of Isil in Iraq and Syria, which has placed the threat of terrorism and broader foreign policy matters once again at the heart of the political debate. According to The Post/ABC poll, 91 percent of Americans view Isil “as a

Hallelujah! Barack Obama has finally come up with a strategy for dealing with the Islamist fanatics in Iraq and Syria. [Snip] All that America and its allies will be doing is bombing Islamist positions in Iraq and Syria without getting their hands dirty on the ground. You don´t need a doctorate in Middle Eastern studies to recognise that this is not only a recipe for disaster, but it will not deliver the stated objective of destroying Isil. Firstly, could someone at the White House kindly explain how backing pro-Iranian Shia militias in Iraq squares with supporting anti-Assad rebels in neighbouring

With a decisive tone designed to give the impression that this was a spontaneous conclusion reached after personal deliberation (and not, certainly not, a decision reached after looking at his latest poill ratings) Barack Obama announced his long-awaited strategy for dealing with Isil. The only substantive changes to what we already knew to be his policy were the unsurprising intention to extend air strikes into Syria, and the rather less expected one to assist the Syrian rebels. There would, in other words, be a systematic attempt to support those trying to bring down the Assad regime. These two announcements were

BEIJING--China responded cautiously on Thursday to a call by US President Barack Obama for a broad coalition to root out Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, saying the world should fight terror but that the sovereignty of countries must be respected.
