Blaming the flirtatious wife? Ex-Gov.
Bob McDonnell’s trial turns tabloid

Fox News, by Howard Kurtz

As governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell was a savvy southerner often talked about as a hot Republican presidential prospect for 2016.Now he’s fighting to stay out of jail. The fall-from-grace narrative is a classic one, a rising-star politician who accepted lavish gifts from a rich businessman seeking help from state government. But this tale had a twist: McDonnell’s wife, Maureen, was a key go-between with the executive, Jonnie Williams. In a Richmond courthouse, the former governor has mounted an eye-opening defense, saying that his wife was smitten with the guy while their own relationship had collapsed. I guess desperate times call for desperate

If the wife is willing to be thrown under the bus in such a tawdry fashion, one has to believe there is much more to the story.

In multiple defendant cases, often the defense wants separate trials. Very hard to get in federal conspiracy cases. This could be an attempt to create a conflict to lay the foundation for a "severance" as its known in the business. Pretty tawdry in any event.

Just shows you once again that one has look beyond the magnetism and the glibness and investigator whom we elect. (That´s how we got Obama.) But it is ALSO why Republicans are so turned off re: some Republicans and, certainly, the Party.

Not to be judge and jury, but this kind of behavior (if accurate and apparently, it is) is the very definition of corruption. This is a sordid tale but one that needs to be told. Actions have consequences and if you don´t want to have to defend the indefensible, play by the rules.

Honest question. What about the guy who is buying political favor? Is there is no law against being overly generous to politicians for personal gain?

How sad it all is. I feel sorry for the kids - how will they ever have their own lives that somehow isn´t tainted by these stories about their parents?

P.S. Anyone going into politics better make sure that they and his/her spouse understand all the rules about gifts and lavish attention from supporters.

I looked at McDonnell´s Wikipedia page and am dumbfounded! Just before McDonnell was elected Governor, he was the Attorney General of Virginia from 2006 to 2009.

´Williams financed a New York shopping spree in which Maureen spent $11,000 at Oscar de la Renta, $5,685 at Louis Vitton and $2,604 at Bergdorf Goodman. The purchases also included two sets of golf clubs and a silver Rolex inscribed “71st Governor of Virginia.”´

And now we have governor "McDuff" the Clinton bundler. But at least we knew from before McDuff´s foregone coronation that he´s a crook.

I voted for Governor McDonnell - very proud when he re-opened immediately after his election our closed rest stops on major interstates after his predecessor Tom Kaine closed them to save money.

He had a bright future but it´s over now. Obviously corruption in our elected leaders is not tolerable, well, except for when they´re Democrats.

IDF to complete destruction of Hamas

The IDF has destroyed Hamas's flagship terrorism project; its network of cross-border tunnels that snuck under the border into Israel. The military also began to pull its forces out of the Gaza Strip on Saturday evening. Hamas has spent five years preparing this strategic threat; the IDF wrecked 31 tunnels in two weeks. By Sunday, all of the tunnels the IDF knew about, or discovered during the offensive, will be destroyed. A few tunnels that Israel doesn't know about may remain intact. Many of the underground passages were designed to send heavily armed murder squads into Israeli villages for killing sprees, and attack army positions from

Republicans may yet win the elections in November. They may end up in control of both houses of Congress come January. But in the final week before a lengthy August recess, they have shown a remarkable capacity to complicate their path to victory. The latest blow came Thursday in what has become predictable fashion: chaos in the House. Amid fractious infighting, House leaders abruptly pulled their alternative to President Obama’s bill to deal with the influx of Central American children crossing the border. What was said to be a national crisis turned into one more problem facing deferral. But there was

Dozens of federal employees at an obscure agency that handles appeals of patent applications went years with so little work to do that they collected salaries — and even bonuses — while they surfed the Internet, did laundry, exercised and watched television, an investigation has found. The employees, paralegals making $60,000 to $80,000 a year, were idle with full knowledge of their immediate bosses and multiple layers of managers and judges who “sat on their hands” waiting for work to give them, a year-long probe by the Commerce Department inspector general’s office uncovered. Over the past two years, the Obama administration has published hundreds and hundreds of rules — on how wheelchairs should be stowed aboard U.S. aircraft, how foreign trade zones should be regulated, how voting assistance should be provided for U.S. citizens overseas, and so on.There’s a problem, however: Technically speaking, these and some 1,800 other regulations shouldn’t be in effect because they weren’t reported to Congress as required. Yet there is little that lawmakers or the courts can do about it. The situation illustrates the obscure, Byzantine process used to create federal regulations — and how easily it can go awry. “It’s

The quintessential question of Watergate was “what did the President know and when did he know it?” Obamagate, the vast scandal that encompasses an entire presidency, offers a preemptive answer. Obama didn’t know anything and he never knew it. At least not until, like smuggling weapons to druglords, bugging journalists, IRSing his political enemies and killing vets, his right hand found out about what his left hand was doing from the morning paper. After skipping 58% of his daily intelligence briefings in Term 1 and 59% of them in Term 2, he went on 60 Minutes and blamed intelligence agencies for being

A presidential defeat isn’t an easy thing to bounce back from. And Mitt Romney did it twice. So it was understandable that after he lost the presidential race in 2012, he was adamant about closing the door to the possibility of a third campaign. But recently, speculation is whirling that Romney may not be so adamant anymore. When asked if he was running in a New York Times interview published earlier this week, Romney said : “I have nothing to add to the story. We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race,” he said. “We’ll see what happens.” That response, which
