First lady Michelle Obama embraced her family’s African roots in a speech today, telling a young audience that the ´blood of Africa´ runs through her veins as she urged changing traditional beliefs on the worth of educating women. Her husband had shied away from discussing his African heritage in his own remarks to the 500 Africans finishing a six-week Washington leadership fellowship on Monday, referencing his Kenyan father only once in the question-and-answer session. But Michelle Obama said as an African American woman, her discussion with the African youth was ´deeply personal´. ´The roots of my family tree are in

Comments:
She´s no longer proud of her country (i.e., the United States of America)? Perhaps this is her first step towards getting a position involving Africa, say a UN pretend-job. Or maybe she´s just being more divisive.

Pick any location in Africa and any time in history and ask this ungrateful woman where she wishes she was rather born, than in America. You will not get an answer.
There are millions of people who should get on their knees every day and thank God they were born in America......and I have a hole in my wallet to prove it.

Actually, what I read does not bother me. I have Finnish and Italian roots, and I am thankful for my forebears, and what was accomplished in the Old Country but most of all I am thankful for their love for America, and their thankfulness for the gift of becoming citizens.

But I will say that the description of her dress as "fashionable" ...I had to say "ugh!" It looked like something you´d find in a second-hand shop. It probably cost a mint.
Maybe it would be suitable for a teenager, but it looked silly on her.

It´s hip and easy to say "the blood of Africa runs through my veins" while you have a personal staff of nearly 100 at your beck and call, a closet full of clothes you didn´t pay for, a free jet at your disposal, and a chef to bake you "crack" pies when you need a little sugar rush. Not to mention vacation get-aways in your destination of choice (always for humanitarian reasons, of course), a pad in waiting in Palm Springs, and a summer home away from home in the Hamptons.
