Drug-resistant malaria reaches

LONDON - Drug-resistant malaria parasites have spread to border regions of Southeast Asia, seriously threatening global efforts to control and eliminate the mosquito-borne disease, researchers said on Wednesday. The scientists, who analyzed blood samples from 1,241 malaria patients in 10 countries across Asia and Africa, found resistance to the world´s most effective antimalarial drug, artemisinin, is now widespread in Southeast Asia. However, the study found no signs yet of resistance in the three African sites it covered in Kenya, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo. "It may still be possible to prevent the spread of artemisinin-resistant malaria parasites across

Drug-resistant this and drug resistant that. This means......you get it......you don´t have much chance of surviving. Anyone take the time to Ask the Lord why? Read the Scriptures ...these warnings and plagues of Egypt were prophesied in so many OT books and NT books. But.....very few read the Bible today. Ya know.....I was raised RC..but as a curious teenager, I wanted to know for myself instead of listening to everyone´s opinions on religion. So I went out and bought a Bible and read it cover to cover. Then I continued reading everything I could get my hands on. Don´t you get tired of hearing everyone else´s opinions and find out for yourselves? It was sooo worth it all for me to do that! And Thank God, I didn´t learn it from pastors but only from THE LORD and the Holy Spirit. That is the ONLY way to really get it. Let God speak to your heart not religion.

Paul Krugman’s latest dispatch bemoans the penchant of the rich to live in vast mansions with lots of servants. It would be unremarkable save for the glimpse it provides into the lack of self-awareness on the left. Mr. Krugman reckons that we are seeing a resurgence of elite ostentation. This seems to have been touched off by his reading an article from a long ago Fortune magazine about how executives lived in the 1950s. It turns out, he writes, that “the lives of an earlier generation’s elite were, indeed, far more restrained, more seemly if you like, than those of

NYC mayor slaughters lovable groundhog in brutal death smash. Yet another defenseless creature was slaughtered by a left-wing politician, the New York Post revealed on Thursday. Adorable groundhog Staten Island Chuck was “chucked” to his death during an appearance with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a raging liberal, back in February. Officials sought to cover up the creature’s demise, so as not to fuel public outrage over the disturbing trend of liberal politicians murdering cute animals. They even lied about the true identity of the victim. Staten Island Zoo officials went to great lengths to hide the death

Two days before Attorney General Eric Holder announced his resignation, a federal court ordered the Justice Department to produce, by October 22, a detailed list of Fast and Furious documents sought by a conservative watchdog group. Judicial Watch requested the documents in a June 2012 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. Three months later, in September 2012, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA lawsuit, seeking all of the documents the Obama White House was withholding from Congress under a claim of executive privilege. This week, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that the Justice Department must submit

BuzzFeed reported Thursday that Susan Wismer, the Democratic Party´s gubernatorial nominee in South Dakota, has been caught plagiarizing from the already plagiarized jobs plan of the party´s Wisconsin gubernatorial nominee, Mary Burke. Wismer also plagiarized from the Democratic Party´s gubernatorial nominee in Texas, Wendy Davis. (snip) There have been no reports yet that any other Democratic gubernatorial candidates have plagiarized Wismer´s plagiarization of Burke´s plagiarized plan. But with another 40 days still left until election day, it is still too early to discount the possibility of a third generation of campaign document plagiarization among Democrats this cycle.

Jeff Neely, 59, former regional administrator for GSA´s Pacific Rim region, billed the federal government for personal travel and expenses in Las Vegas, California, Guam and Saipan, according to a federal indictment. According to the indictment, Mr. Neely billed GSA for lodging expenses at the M Resort Spa Casino Las Vegas in 2010 and roundtrip airfare for travel between

Thanks to his stonewalling of the House of Representatives investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal, in 2012 Eric Holder became the first Attorney General held in contempt by Congress. Maybe his resignation on Thursday will revive the story for the three broadcast network evening newscasts, but don´t count on it. With Sharyl Attkisson no longer working at CBS News, there is no broadcast journalist who has shown any interest in pursuing this disgraceful story. In fact, as the MRC documented after the 2012 re-election of President Obama, Holder´s Fast and Furious scandal was just one of the many stories the

The resignation — if that’s what it is — of Attorney General Eric Holder signals the end of one of the most divisive tenures in the history of the cabinet. It was no doubt inevitable after Mr. Holder was determined, in a bi-partisan vote, to be in criminal contempt of the 112th United States House. He became the only sitting cabinet officer in history to be so found. He reacted to the contempt finding with more contempt. From that point on his tenure in office was unsustainable. “For low-income students, the problem is poverty. Until we solve that, they’ll never realize their potential in school.” We’ve all heard this argument—it’s knowing, realistic … and dead wrong. Of course, poverty throws up huge obstacles. And then great schools help students clear those barriers away. That’s the major message of Megan Sweas’s new book, Putting Education to Work, about the Cristo Rey Network of 28 Catholic high schools, on whose Board of Trustees I serve, and from which hail seven current Franklin & Marshall College students. And this message was echoed last week by Jane Genster, a senior leader

Eric Holder Jr., the nation´s first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress. Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon

Normally, no one would care that in a recent Atlantic essay — “Why I Hope to Die at 75” — 57-year-old Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel argued that living to be 75 years old was long enough for anyone. After 75, Emanuel suggests, “We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic.” But Emanuel is no garden-variety crackpot. Nor is he a wannabe science-fiction writer dreaming of a centrally planned planet of robust youthful humanoids. Even though Republicans may take back the Senate by running against amnesty, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush pushed amnesty legislation while stumping for North Carolina Republican Senate candidate Thom Tillis on Wednesday. Bush, according to the New York Times, reportedly said that comprehensive immigration reform "will restore and sustain economic growth for this country." And even though a recent Gallup poll found that illegal immigration is now the top concern among Republicans, Bush said that if immigration reform is "framed in that way, I don’t think there’s a big debate in the Republican Party about the need to do this."
