´Sharknado´ sequel has bite and
a storm of laughs as sharks sink
their teeth into Manhattan

Associated Press, by Frazier Moore

NEW YORK – Don´t worry about me. The Sharknado Evacuation map supplied by Syfy network places me, as a resident of Lower Manhattan, smack in the zone most in peril this sharknado season. But I´ll be ready. You might as well batten down the hatches, too. "Sharknado 2: The Second One" (which, if you hadn´t guessed, is an encore follow-up sequel to last summer´s campy classic) premieres Wednesday. The original "Sharknado" depicted a weather aberration on the Southern California coast that caused bloodthirsty sharks to rain on hapless Angelenos. But hunky beach-bar owner Fin Shepard (get it: fin shepherd?!) saved

Comments:
Tonight! Syfy Network´s original in this series (and others) was pure cheese food, but was an effective diversion from the vicissitudes of life. Although this article flirts with staleness (two days), it´s worth posting so those who are curious can tune in.

I just loved it! Some of the cameos were priceless. Robert Hays, from ´Airplane´ , was the pilot of the airliner in the opening sequence. Judd Hirsch, from ´Taxi´ played the taxi driver who ferried the good guys around Manhattan until he got chomped. Have to see it again to catch everything.

The resurgence of interest in the subject of Ebola can be summarized in one sentence: “nearly half of the cumulative case burden of Ebola in the three countries has occurred in just the last 21 days”. (Snip) The real ‘Who’ of course is Captain America. Since the end of the Second World War, and especially since the fall of the Berlin Wall, we’ve lived in the most religious of eras. One reason why the superhero movie trend is enjoying a boom is because our modern world, which has grown too sophisticated to believe in Christianity, really believes in the Marvel

In a few days president Obama will unveil his strategy to destroy ISIS to a waiting public. (Snip) However the basic outlines of the strategy itself have emerged from information already available to the press. A Los Angeles Times story suggests that Obama will rely on proxies to fight ISIS at three levels: on the ground, within the region and in the West. Kerry invokes comparisons to the Sunni Awakening, seeking to recall the days when al-Qaeda in Iraq was beaten by George Bush. Obama plans to organize the Sunni Arabs to fight ISIS.

Nothing expresses Putin’s determination to humiliate Obama as much as the kidnapping an Estonian intelligence officer in Estonia and abducting him to Russia only hours after the president assured the Baltics of Western protection. Max Fisher at Vox says: “This is bad: Russia ‘abducts’ Estonian officer after Obama says US will defend Estonia”. "On Friday morning, less than 48 hours after President Obama delivered a speech in Estonia warning that Russian aggression against Estonia could trigger war with the US and NATO, Russian security forces have seized an officer with Estonia’s state security bureau at gunpoint and taken him into

Nick Miroff of the Washington Post revisited a Venezuelan dream: the Ciudad Guyana. It was a modernist planned city in the wilderness. (Snip) Yes a dream — even a dream car or home — can be a nightmare if you can’t afford it. One of the things Obamacare promised to achieve is bend the cost curve downward. But that’s not happening. “Within the next ten years, U.S. healthcare spending is expected to hit $5.2 trillion, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said Wednesday.” Expansion in health coverage has not been matched by a corresponding decline in the costs of

Much of today’s commentary revolves around the president’s inability to articulate a policy towards ISIS. The president was pressed in Estonia to outline his plans amid multiple crises, especially in the aftermath of Steven Sotloff’s decapitation. (Snip) When you lead from the front, you control the coalition. When you lead from behind, the coalition controls you. This indecision can be disguised under the pose of “sophistication” or “nuance,” where you claim to adapt your behavior to the “context”. But it is really a euphemism for spinelessness. BRADENTON -- People from all over the world were watching Twitch.TV live streamer LaggySpork playing Minecraft at 6:45 a.m. Sunday when a dozen armed Bradenton Police Department officers stormed into his living room. Unknown to LaggySpork, the online moniker for Lakeside South resident Mike Dolen, a Bradenton computer whiz who makes extra money playing Minecraft and other video games for an online audience, someone called the police claiming her father had a machine gun, her mother had just been shot and she was hiding in a closet. LAKELAND | John Morgan, the leader of a campaign to pass a constitutional amendment to legalize medical marijuana, made his case to an audience Thursday during a forum at Lakeland´s Harrison School of the Arts. A few hours later, Morgan stood on a stage at a much different venue — the Boots N Buckles Saloon in North Lakeland — and used considerably saltier language in seeking votes for Amendment 2. At least one patron at the nightclub captured Morgan´s monologue on a phone and posted two video clips on Facebook. The clips show Morgan still garbed in the dark suit

The escape of the Filipino UN contingent from the clutches of the al-Nusra has a tragic-comic postscript. Most Americans realize that Labor Day is about celebrating workers and their contribution to our free society, but that won’t stop union bosses from stealing the spotlight to push their own agenda. Despite this, there is still much to celebrate this Labor Day. Workers from across the country have made substantial gains for workplace freedom. In America’s newest Right to Work state, a growing number of workers from across Michigan are joining the fight to protect their right to work from union bosses. (Snip) It is here where the God of Mathematics touches down upon the earth. One of the reasons faith-based health care Ministries might work is self-selection. Cynics may scoff at the morality clauses of Samaritan Ministries, but such morality clauses are probably written on the handout your doctor gave you under the heading “lifestyle changes” when your blood pressure turned up too high and the lab came back with alarming cholesterol and sugar counts.

The Obama administration will make a decision on executive action to prevent corporations from leaving the country in the "very near future," Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said Monday morning. Speaking at an event on business taxes at the Urban Institute in Washington, Lew placed the responsibility on Congress to address so-called tax inversions, but said that the administration was prepared to step in if lawmakers don´t move quickly enough. Inversions are tax maneuvers in which corporations buy firms in low-tax countries in order to place their headquarters in that country. Such deals have grown in number in recent months, with
