Department of Defense

Associated Press, by Matt Volz

HELENA, Mont. — The Department of Defense has taken the unusual step of overseeing a plagiarism investigation being conducted by the U.S. Army War College against Sen. John Walsh of Montana, the college´s provost said Tuesday. The department will decide whether any discipline is warranted based on the recommendations of the school´s academic review board, Provost Lance Betros said. Normally, that decision is reserved for the school´s deputy commandant.

Comments:
It appears that Chuck Hagel will now get a bite of the apple.

War College wimps out and lets Dems stick together.

Voters should mete out their own punishment. Dems don´t need another tainted senator. But maybe these days, with Obie sinking fast, they´ll take any senator they can get?

Chuck Hagel can barely pronounce the word "plagiarism", let alone "investigate" it. Guess it will work out for "Sen." John Walsh, after all. Welcome to one more example of the "new normal".

If it´s the Demonrat Department of Defense, then Walsh will be cleared in a heartbeat. That´s what the most corrupt, criminal administration in the history of the country does.

Less than 48 hours ahead of a planned address to the nation on how the U.S. plans to combat Islamic State terrorists operating in Iraq and Syria, President Obama dined at the White House Monday with a slate of foreign policy experts. Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Secretary of State John Kerry were joined by some of Washington’s most established foreign policy hands, including Clinton National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and Zbigniew Brzezinski, who held the same position during the Carter administration. Former Obama national security adviser Tom Donilon was also at the dinner, as was former Undersecretary for Defense Policy

Some Latino Democrats, saying they are fed up with President Barack Obama’s broken promises on immigration reform, are threatening to sit out the midterm elections and claim there will be backlash at the ballot box come November. “Maybe only by paying a price at the polls will Democrats finally stop throwing us under the bus,” Carmen Velasquez, founder and retired executive director of Alivio Medical Center in Chicago, wrote in Politico Magazine. Immigration activists are voicing their anger on social media and in the press about Pres. Obama abandoning his pledge to act on immigration by the end of summer, instead delaying

Half of all bird species in North America — including the bald eagle — are at risk of severe population decline by 2080 if the swift pace of global warming continues, the National Audubon Society concluded in a study released Monday. "The scale of the disruption we´re projecting is a real punch in the gut," said Gary Langham, chief Audubon scientist. (Snip) By 2080, the bald eagle, the national symbol of the United States, could see its habitat decrease by 75%, the report says. All of the habitat of the common loon, the state bird of Minnesota, could disappear in the lower 48

This morning, New York Times reporter Kim Severson spiced up her obituary for Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy by tagging him "a symbol of intolerance" who presided over a "restaurant chain [seen by some] as a symbol of hate." Here´s the relevant excerpt (emphasis mine): When he introduced himself, S. Truett Cathy often played down his job. “I cook chicken for a living,” he would say. And on the surface, that was true. Mr. Cathy, who died on Monday at 93, was by all appearances a humble Christian man from Georgia with little education who sold a simple sandwich: a

SPOTTED: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee sporting a pair of white flip-flops with her pearls while on the House floor on Monday. While the Texas Democrat was all business on top — wearing a red suit jacket with a black and white scarf and pearl necklace — she was ready to hit the beach on the bottom, with her toe-baring shoes. The House feed on C-SPAN did not capture the summer recess-worthy thongs. An ITK spy who observed the warm weather footwear noted that earlier on Monday, Jackson Lee delivered a one-minute speech behind a podium near the center of the

WASHINGTON--US President Barack Obama will tell the American people on Wednesday night that he plans to order strikes against Islamic State forces in both Syria and Iraq until the group is ultimately destroyed. The president´s plan includes additional support for opposition militias in Syria vetted by the United States, which will serve as a ground force complementing America´s air campaign. [Snip] The "comprehensive strategy," as described by one White House official, will involve "US military action and support for the forces combating ISIL [Islamic State] on the ground–both the opposition in Syria and a new, inclusive Iraqi government."

Megyn Kelly tonight brought viewers the first part of her contentious showdown with Professor Ward Churchill, best known for his controversial comments about the “little Eichmanns” who were in the World Trade Center when the planes hit on September 11th. Churchill came under intense scrutiny and was fired by the University of Colorado at Boulder. What concerned Kelly most in the first part of the interview was that “little Eichmanns” comment, the argument being that Eichmann played a role in horrible atrocities even though he didn’t directly carry out the Final Solution, which he views as similar to the financial

Free money for everyone! With weak job growth, rising poverty, and the rich continuing to devour nearly all economic growth, it´s an idea that is gaining more credence. Arguments for a universal basic income (UBI) — in which everyone without exception would receive an equal stipend — have flourished in policy-centric areas of the internet, including The Week. Advocates of UBI see it as a blunter, more effective means of reducing poverty and shrinking the inequality gap. But even if UBI proponents are right on the merits, Tyler Cowen argues that the politics of the issue are not favorable. Under

Because you have got to go and get your education. You´ve got to." See, kids, this is why you don’t do drugs. And this is why you will always eventually regret voting for somebody who boasted of all the coke and dope he did while smoldering about his absentee father.President Choom Gang has demilitarized our military. He sends the Department of Health and Human Services to the Mexican border to welcome and take care of tens of thousands of illegal children streaming across. And now he wants to deploy American troops into West Africa to combat the Ebola virus. Boy, is this confusing. Mr. President, with all due respect: Are you still smoking dope? Just when

More and more, Obama seems like a passive observer of events who dismisses criticism as superficial. Not a good combination. “But part of this job is also the theater of it. A part of it is, you know, how are you, how, how are you, well, it´s not something that—that always comes naturally to me.” —President Barack Obama on Meet The Press, Sunday. Some presidents might have garnered a bit of sympathy and understanding with claims that the “theater” of the office doesn’t come naturally to them. (Snip)There was even a second stand-down order, according to the trio in their book, "13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi," written with Mitchell Zuckoff.
