Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl could meet next week with the general who´s looking into how the now-freed prisoner of war was captured by the Taliban in 2009, his attorney said. Attorney Eugene Fidell told CNN he will know for sure next week exactly when the meeting will take place. When it happens, it´ll be the first meeting between Bergdahl and Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl who is the point person for the Army´s investigation. The 28-year-old soldier spent five years in the hands of Taliban militants after he disappeared in Afghanistan in June 2009. After he was released in May in exchange for five senior

In the upside down world of Obama where illegal aliens get the red carpet and veterans get the shaft, Bergdahl will be hailed as a hero in the Rose Garden before this is all over.

FTA:

Some critics accused the soldier of deserting his comrades in war.

No. Not "critics". Sic men from his unit who were there when he left. And how about the "superior" whom he asked about what would happen if he left the base with his weapon and other sensitive gear, and they told him it would be very serious. And so, when he left, he left those behind.

These people were witnesses, not "critics". And as I understand it, no one has talked with them yet.

From the June 2014 article on General Dahl linked in #1,

In a statement released Monday, Army officials said the purpose of the investigation that Dahl will head is to "ascertain facts" surrounding Bergdahl´s departure from Combat Outpost Mest-Lalak in Afghanistan’s Paktika province in June 2009. Some of Bergdahl´s fellow soldiers have called the former detainee a deserter, whose voluntary departure from the base led to his capture.

Fellow soldiers, not critics.

From the posted article,

An Army fact-finding investigation conducted in the months after his disappearance concluded he left his outpost deliberately and of his own free will, according to an official who was briefed on the report.

The Army has no definitive finding that Bergdahl deserted because that would require knowing his intent -- something officials couldn´t learn without talking to the soldier, a U.S. military official recently told CNN.

If someone leaves a military post deliberately and of his own free will, it was his intent to leave. In the military that is called "desertion".

WASHINGTON — Dozens of Justice Department officials, ranging from FBI special agents and prison wardens to high-level federal prosecutors, have escaped prosecution or firing in recent years despite findings of misconduct by the department’s own internal watchdog. Most of the names of the investigated officials, even the highest-ranking, remain under wraps. But documents McClatchy obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal for the first time a startling array of alleged transgressions uncovered by the department’s inspector general. These include: – Investigators concluded an assistant U.S. attorney “lacked candor” when interviewed by FBI agents investigating her husband’s “embezzlement activity.” The

Syria request upends Hill’s sleepy September

President Barack Obama’s urgent request that Congress authorize the arming and training of Syrian rebels is scrambling delicate plans on Capitol Hill less that two months before the midterm elections. This isn’t the quick and clean September Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) were hoping for. The glide path toward avoiding a government shutdown is suddenly more complicated — at least temporarily. House Republicans delayed the consideration of their government-funding bill, which was expected to get a vote on Thursday, to consider Obama’s request. The House isn’t expected to vote until Friday at the earliest. But it

The nine-term lawmaker lost Tuesday night to fellow Democrat Seth Moulton, an Iraq War veteran who latched onto frustration with Tierney’s past ethical troubles and an anti-incumbent sentiment to win by a stunning 8-point margin. Multiple Democratic operatives in the Bay State and the District say the race shifted quickly in Moulton’s favor in the final week and a half, as voters ended summer vacations, kids returned to school and the electorate as a whole began to finally pay attention

BERKELEY, Mo. -- A planned highway shutdown fell through Wednesday as a wall of officers in riot gear kept Ferguson police shooting protesters from walking onto Interstate 70 in a nearby St. Louis suburb during the late afternoon commute. State troopers and St. Louis city and county officers warned the roughly 150 demonstrators who gathered to stay out of the road as they protested last month´s shooting of Michael Brown, a black, unarmed 18-year-old, by a white officer. There were nearly as many officers as demonstrators. Organizers said the protest in Berkeley was designed as an act of nonviolent civil disobedience

NEW YORK -- After Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast nearly two years ago, the federal government quickly sent out $1.4 billion in emergency disaster aid to the hurricane´s victims. Now, thousands of people might have to pay back their share. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is scrutinizing about 4,500 households that it suspects received improper payments after the storm, according to program officials and data obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request. As of early September, FEMA had asked around 850 of those households to return a collective $5.8 million. The other cases were still under review. FEMA´s campaign

As Congress returns to Washington this week for the few remaining legislative days before the midterm elections, lawmakers will compare notes on what they heard and saw back home. They will also share impressions they gleaned about what will happen on Nov. 4. Democrats´ assessments will be particularly enlightening, and my guess is that those reports will be about as discouraging as they can get. Historically, midterm elections are generally referenda on the incumbent president. President Obama´s latest overall approval ratings are not far above his lowest yet. Public attitudes toward the Affordable Care Act have not noticeably improved. The extent
