Middle Eastern firm’s deal to

Washington Times, by Kelly Riddell

For the first time in U.S. history, a Middle Eastern-based firm is poised to manage a strategic U.S. port on Florida’s Atlantic coast, rekindling national security concerns inside Congress. Rep. Duncan Hunter, the California Republican who oversees port security as chairman of the House Transportation’s maritime transportation subcommittee, demanded Tuesday that the Obama administration conduct a full national security review of the decision last month by Gulftainer to sign a 35-year contract with Florida’s Port Canaveral. The firm is a privately owned cargo terminal operator based in the United Arab Emirates,

Seems to me that the Times has got it backward (or is practicing the abysmal level of expository writing that now passes for normal in the fourth estate).

Gulftainer´s decision is its own business. What we (not the current administration) need to do is to examine the decision by Port Canaveral to get into bed with a UAE company -- and then we should follow the trail back to Gulftainer´s great and good friends at 1600.

How ´bout it, Duncan?

That´s right up there with the plan they had to lease the ports to them.

Insanity. Sometimes I believe we deserve what we get, but then I am quickly reminded that the we should be those idiots making these kinds of decisions. Do we have to outsource every job in this country? More pointedly, do we have to outsource them to enemies? The damage this administration is doing behind the scenes and off the radar is devastating and dangerous. This is a well planned and well executed deconstruction of the country that has been in the works for decades. What made it work now was a complicit media, a weak opposition party, a lazy, greedy, and uninformed electorate, and finally, a committed community organizer just itching to remake this country in his image. It is a perfect storm and we are bobbing around in the chaos just waiting for the big wave to hit.

Obama’s herky-jerky leadership
Washington Post, by Ruth Marcus    Original Article

The word of the day is herky-jerky, which is a polite way of saying erratic. And which, I regret to report, is a fitting description of President Obama’s handling of immigration. And, I regret even more, a metaphor for his stumbling stewardship. o recap and add perspective: The country’s immigration policy is broken, with 11 million undocumented immigrants forced to live in the shadows. That this situation endures is the fault of House Republicans who, captive to a gerrymandered, cable-inflamed populace that greets every reasonable solution with cries of “amnesty,” have rejected any comprehensive solution. This recalcitrance may be rational,

U.S. military dependence

The rising tensions with Russia over its aggression in Ukraine is creating national security concerns inside the Pentagon, where the military’s largest satellite program is reliant on a rocket engine produced by Moscow. The Air Force said it has begun looking for alternatives to the RD-180 rocket engines for its Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program — the fourth largest line item in the U.S. defense budget — now that Russia has threatened to cut off the technology in its -for-tat struggle with the U.S. Lawmakers and national security analysts said they were aghast that the military allowed itself to become

From Russia to Syria to Iraq to al Qaeda, President Obama and his aides have underestimated the motives and capabilities of U.S. adversaries. With regard to some, the Obama team initially characterized bad actors as U.S. partners, such as in the cases of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar Assad. In other instances, Mr. Obama ridiculed as a “JV team” the rampaging Islamic State terrorist group, said al Qaeda was “on the run” and declared Iraq secure as he pulled out all troops against the military’s advice. “I think, unfortunately, that the Obama administration has put a higher

Charles Krauthammer has no consoling words for President Obama in the wake of a second American journalist beheaded by the Islamic State. Scolding the president’s refusal to call Islamic State terrorists anything but “extremists,” Krauthammer called the president “a man in denial, on the verge of delusion.” “Here’s a man who comes into office and denies the existence of a war on terror,” said Krauthammer on Special Report. “And what do we see?” Krauthammer then proceeded to list attacks by Islamic jihadists in Somalia, Nigeria, Niger, Libya, Yemen, and, of course, Syria and Iraq. “It’s everywhere. With the violence increasing, what started as a routine demonstration has morphed into concerns that the government of a nuclear-armed country could collapse. The culprit is the warming seas - and in particular the Gulf of Maine, whose waters are heating up faster than 99 percent of the world´s oceans, scientists say. Long-established species of commercial fish, like cod, herring and northern shrimp, are departing for colder waters. Black sea bass, blue crabs and new species of squid - all highly unusual for the Gulf - are turning up in fishermen´s nets. The Gulf of Maine´s warming reflects broader

Jimmy Carter left the Southern Baptist Church a few years back, citing its “rigid” views. Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood supporters are waging pogroms against Christians. If a Muslim leaves Islam, they are called an apostate and are often marked or death.
