John Kerry learns humility
Washington Post, by Dana Milbank

John Kerry put his right hand on his heart. “This is not about me,” he said. The secretary of state was reacting to the torrent of criticism at home and abroad of his failed attempt at a Middle East cease-fire; senior Israeli officials had called Kerry’s proposal a “strategic terrorist attack.” Contrary to his protest, Kerry was taking it personally. “You know, I — I’ve spent 29 years in the United States Senate and had a 100?percent voting record pro-Israel, and I will not take a second seat to anybody in my friendship or my devotion to the protection of

John Kerry will never be housebroken.

He is a dumber than any dog moron who will never learn to stop pissing on the United States and Israel.

Our real Syria strategy — containment-plus
Washington Post, by Charles Krauthammer    Original Article

Late, hesitant and reluctant as he is, President Obama has begun effecting a workable strategy against the Islamic State. True, he’s been driven there by public opinion. Does anyone imagine that without the broadcast beheadings we’d be doing anything more than pinprick strikes within Iraq? If Obama can remain steady through future fluctuations in public opinion, his strategy might succeed. But success will not be what he’s articulating publicly. The strategy will not destroy the Islamic State. It’s more containment-plus: Expel the Islamic State from Iraq, contain it in Syria. Because you can’t win from the air. In Iraq, we

As the United States mobilized against new Islamist enemies this month, the voice of an aging adversary echoed in the distance. Ayman al-Zawahiri, one of al-Qaeda’s founders and its leader for the past three years, released a video announcing the formation of a new affiliate in India and lamenting the turmoil being caused by the rival Islamic State in Syria. “Oh mujahideen, unite and reject differences and discord,” he said in a pleading tone that seemed to underscore the declining relevance of al-Qaeda’s core, the Pakistan-based group that orchestrated the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But Zawahiri was silent on a

Eric H. Holder Jr., who made history as the nation’s first African American attorney general and became an icon among liberals but a divisive figure to many conservatives, announced Thursday that he will resign his post. In an emotional ceremony at the White House, President Obama paid tribute to one of the last original members of his Cabinet and a close friend, calling Holder’s departure “bittersweet.” Holder, at one point fighting back tears, cited a series of actions he said his Justice Department took to empower the powerless, ranging from fighting for voting rights to reforming criminal sentences for low-level

President Obama is playing too nice in the air war against the Islamic State and the Khorasan Group, critics say, pointing to a spared bombing target in Syria as an example. Photos of the aftermath of a U.S.-led airstrike late Monday showed that the Islamic State finance center’s rooftop communications array had been destroyed, but the building itself was left intact. The limited effectiveness of the airstrikes is further diminished by the Iraqi security forces’ decidedly mixed results in combat and inability to reverse most gains of the Islamic State, also known by the acronyms ISIL and ISIS. The ad is good, but what’s better is the reaction from the national Democratic Senatorial committee about the ad. This is not the behavior of a winning team. First, the ad. It’s a good ad, tapping into the idea that Sen. Mark Udall has been a creature of Washington for far too long, and that he comes from a family whose aspirations and careers live there, too. Unlike Gardner, who touts his tractor-building Coloradan past and family. A game-changing revolution is brewing across the nation’s political landscape, though it’s getting little serious attention in the liberal news media right now. A growing pile of voter-preference polls now show that the Republicans are on the brink of taking control of the Senate and strengthening their hold on the House in what is shaping up to be a complete repudiation of the Democrats and Barack Obama’s failed presidency. But neither the Obama White House nor the Democrats on Capitol Hill are vocally sounding the alarms about their impending defeat in the upcoming midterm elections. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

The U.S. ability to pinpoint with airstrikes the operational hubs of the al Qaeda offshoot Khorasan Group in Syria and penetrate one of its bombing plots shows the importance of the much-maligned National Security Agency, defense analysts said Tuesday. The Khorasan Group is an especially hard target because, unlike other al Qaeda spinoffs, it stays in the shadows and refrains from pronouncements on social media. Its goal is to design explosives that can defeat airport security and blow up an airliner, killing hundreds of people. Its prime target: the United States. “Intelligence reports indicated that the Khorasan Group was in

HEBRON, West Bank — Israeli forces on Tuesday shot and killed two Hamas operatives suspected of kidnapping and killing three Israeli teenagers in June. The abduction of the three Jewish students in the West Bank — followed by the Israeli military’s mass arrests of Hamas members — was part of a cascade of events that eventually led to the 50-day war in Gaza, one of the bloodiest in years of conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Karzai, who will be replaced by President-elect Ashraf Ghani on Monday, accused the American government of spending the past 13 years focused on “its own interests” instead of what was best for the Afghan people. “We don’t have peace because Americans didn’t want peace,” Karzai told a gathering of several hundred Afghan government employees. “If the U.S. wants Afghanistan to be a good friend, it needs to match its words with actions,” Karzai later

U.S. military leaders said Tuesday their aerial bombardment of Syria was only the beginning of a prolonged campaign that will continue intermittently for months and will become more difficult as targeted militants seek refuge in populated areas. The United States is now attacking two sets of enemies in the region: the Islamic State, a growing movement of jihadists seeking to create its own country in the Middle East, and the Khorasan group, a smaller network affiliated with al-Qaeda that officials say is plotting against Europe and the United States. After spending nearly six years of his presidency installing a series of constraints on U.S. counterterrorism operations, President Obama has launched a broad military offensive against Islamist groups in Syria that stretches the limits of those legal and policy enclosures. The barrage of airstrikes was aimed mainly at a militant group, the Islamic State, that is no longer among the al-Qaeda “associates” envisioned by the military authorization passed after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The group is not even suspected of planning attacks against the United States. The unfolding U.S. air campaign has employed weapons — including dozens of 3,000-pound

Even though Republicans may take back the Senate by running against amnesty, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush pushed amnesty legislation while stumping for North Carolina Republican Senate candidate Thom Tillis on Wednesday. Bush, according to the New York Times, reportedly said that comprehensive immigration reform "will restore and sustain economic growth for this country." And even though a recent Gallup poll found that illegal immigration is now the top concern among Republicans, Bush said that if immigration reform is "framed in that way, I don’t think there’s a big debate in the Republican Party about the need to do this."

If I were a scientist, I´d stick to the Goldman Sachs principle: bet on both sides. "Believe in science, believe in God" seems to cover all the possibilities and gives you the best chance for a cheery afterlife. For a time, it was thought that astrophysicist Stephen Hawking had also left a tiny gap in his credo window for a magical deity. However, he has now come out and declared that there is no God.
