We’re building an immigration
system that puts Britain first

Telegraph [UK], by David Cameron

Original Article

This Government has a long-term economic plan to secure a better future for Britain--and controlling immigration is a vital part of it. Under Labour, 2.5 million more people came to this country than left. As Lord Mandelson has admitted, they were practically sending out “search parties” for people to come here. [Snip] Our goal is clear: an immigration system that puts Britain first. Achieving that means doing three things: clamping down on abuses of the system; making sure the right people are coming here for the right reasons; and ensuring the British people get a fair deal. Here I want

Comments:
Here´s a sensible plan. Even if the administration uses only the third reason, "making sure the right people are coming here for the right reasons," it would be a good start.

I am trying to imagine a future GOP president enacting a similar plan. It is the only way our country will survive. Still, I am worried that the republican party won´t have the...guts.

Real change begins with an attitude. A position. I am no fan of Cameron´s, but this is a start. Now if he doesn´t wimp out...

This kind of thing hasn´t crossed Obie´s mind because he has other plans for us and our wonderful country. They aren´t good.

The Royal Bank of Scotland and TSB announced today both will quit the country if voters chose independence as the banks turned their back on Scottish separatists. In a hammer blow to the Yes campaign RBS, Lloyds, Clydesdale and Edinburgh-based TSB say they will move to England if next Thursday’s referendum ends the 307-year Union. The series of announcements by big firms admitting they would leave Scotland has put the No camp back in the lead in a new poll. The Survation survey found 53 percent of Scots would say No in next week’s referendum on independence, with the Yes camp on 47

Tuesday’s major Washington Post-ABC News poll was one of the most significant surveys of public opinion released in the United States this year. It revealed a pronounced shift in thinking on America’s role in the world, which for a number of years had been gravitating towards isolationism. [Snip] The biggest catalyst for this change of thinking has been the rise of Isil in Iraq and Syria, which has placed the threat of terrorism and broader foreign policy matters once again at the heart of the political debate. According to The Post/ABC poll, 91 percent of Americans view Isil “as a

Hallelujah! Barack Obama has finally come up with a strategy for dealing with the Islamist fanatics in Iraq and Syria. [Snip] All that America and its allies will be doing is bombing Islamist positions in Iraq and Syria without getting their hands dirty on the ground. You don´t need a doctorate in Middle Eastern studies to recognise that this is not only a recipe for disaster, but it will not deliver the stated objective of destroying Isil. Firstly, could someone at the White House kindly explain how backing pro-Iranian Shia militias in Iraq squares with supporting anti-Assad rebels in neighbouring

With a decisive tone designed to give the impression that this was a spontaneous conclusion reached after personal deliberation (and not, certainly not, a decision reached after looking at his latest poill ratings) Barack Obama announced his long-awaited strategy for dealing with Isil. The only substantive changes to what we already knew to be his policy were the unsurprising intention to extend air strikes into Syria, and the rather less expected one to assist the Syrian rebels. There would, in other words, be a systematic attempt to support those trying to bring down the Assad regime. These two announcements were

BEIJING--China responded cautiously on Thursday to a call by US President Barack Obama for a broad coalition to root out Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, saying the world should fight terror but that the sovereignty of countries must be respected. Obama also told Americans on Wednesday that he had authorized US air strikes for the first time in Syria and more attacks in Iraq in an escalation of a campaign against Islamic State. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan.
