There’s no valid excuse
for Walsh’s plagiarism

Let’s put it in context: If John Walsh had plagiarized while working in the newsroom at the Daily Inter Lake, he would have been sent packing. That’s because credibility is the gold standard for a newspaper or any other news gathering organization. Plagiarism — taking credit for someone else’s words — is at its root another form of lying, and a newspaper has no credibility if it tolerates lying. Whether the same standard applies in the Senate is up for debate. A story in the New York Times last week demonstrated conclusively that Sen. Walsh had plagiarized large portions of his 2007 master’s thesis at the Army War College in

If the Democrats can justify abortion -and they do - then plagiarism is a sin that doesn´t even register. How do I know that? Because an accused and verified plagiarist is the Vice President of the United States. And, the current POTUS, the academic enigma, no doubt authored very little that possessed even a remote original thought.

A confirmed liar. Why should we believe anything he says?

Surely, personal integrity is not too much to ask.

We here in Montana think they may replace him on the ticket with Brian Schweitzer--bait and switch.

Of course there isn´t. He just wanted to graduate, get his certificate. And thought he was getting by with it.

Chris Stirewalt said he´d have been smarter to apologize and fall on his sword. The insertion of the lame PTSD and "one of our men committed suicide" into his excuse forced the War College into an investigation.

Nuke him!

As a retired enlisted member who has two masters....Mr. Walsh´s pathetic reason is just that. in the academic world....it´s inexcusable, and as a military officer it´s conduct unbecoming....also inexcusable! The only honor is to admit he did something wrong and step down.

The murder of American photojournalist James Foley by hooded thugs in the Islamic State ought to unite our country in a passion for justice, but it won’t. Our country no longer strives for justice. Otherwise the death of James Foley would never have happened. The terrorists who now control nearly half of Iraq and a good portion of Syria would have been exterminated long ago like the pestilent plague they are. It’s not just our failure to wage war against evil overseas either that reveals our decline as a great nation. You only have to look to the disaster in Ferguson, Missouri,

Conservative readers question me on a regular basis about why the Daily Inter Lake publishes the somewhat confrontational column by liberal Gene Lyons every week. The straightforward answer is because liberals exist and therefore they need a column to read. Far be it from me to shut down the free exchange of ideas.(SNIP)What brings me out of the closet as a Lyons reader, however, is last Thursday’s column in which he bravely but foolishly defended the bedraggled climate scientist Michael Mann from the ripostes of Mark Steyn, perhaps the most capably armed social critic since Edmund Wilson.According to Lyons, Steyn

The absurd attacks on Israel for exercising its right of self-defense in the past few weeks have only been surpassed in foolhardy dangerousness by the world’s virtual silence about the genocide being practiced against Christians and other minority religions in the Islamic State formerly known as northwestern Iraq. No matter how you try to wrap your head around the hypocrisy of people calling out Israel for supposed war crimes while at the same time closing their eyes to the uncomfortable truth of the barbaric genocide being waged by Islamic fundamentalists, you cannot do so. Hypocrisy of this dimension is almost demonic.

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas recently ordered 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the state’s border with Mexico to assist the Border Patrol in responding to the growing crisis of illegal entry.[SNIP]The only problem is that Perry’s deployment order is symbolic, not serious, and it won’t do any good until it becomes serious. It is unlikely that Perry is any more likely than any other politician to put his own personal interest second, and the needs of the nation first, but the fact of the matter is we don’t need 1,000 troops on the border, we need 10,000, maybe more.

The Constitution is under assault. So is our way of life. Do you care?Too many people don’t, or at least won’t do anything to stand up for it, which is why it’s almost a foregone conclusion that the proud experiment in liberty called We the People is about to end in abysmal failure.Case in point, the June 30 opinion by the U.S. Supreme Court known colloquially as the Hobby Lobby decision.[SNIP]the court’s ruling does not in any way protect our individual religious freedom; what it does instead is uphold the right of the government to decide for us what religious

Sarah Palin and John Boehner should kiss and make up. They owe it to the country, no matter how uncomfortable the idea makes them or us feel! Palin is the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate who has become a Tea Party maverick, and Boehner is the Republican speaker of the House who is a GOP establishment dinosaur. Last week the battle lines were clearly drawn between these two camps of the Republican Party. Palin called for the impeachment of President Obama, in particular because of his abdication of responsibility for defending our southern border. Boehner, on the other

Obama was "noticeably absent" from the start of the meeting, according to a White House pool report, although U.S. Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute was in attendance.Obama was late to the Ukraine meeting because of other meetings on Afghanistan and a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan, according to a White House official.Back at the Ukraine meeting, leaders were addressed by NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen, who urged Russia to stop the "illegal" annexation of Crimea. “We call on Russia

And tonight it seemed Barack Obama could not resist a chance to see Stonehenge for himself - ordering his helicopter to make an unscheduled stop on his return home from the Nato summit. After flying out of Newport in south Wales, Marine One made an unannounced landing at Boscombe Down Airbase in Wiltshire. The President´s motorcade then weaved its way for 20 minutes across Salisbury Plain, to the amazement of passing drivers. Under grey skies, the President then embarked on tour of the prehistoric stone circle and henge with Heather Sebire, the curator

Barack Obama stands apart from other modern American Presidents in many ways. (snip)the widespread view that he is the coolest President ever. This supernal coolness is not new. In his autobiography, Dreams From My Father, the President wrote that in his teenage years “I tried my best to be cool at all times” (p. 82). However, leaving aside the contradiction inherent in trying to be cool, it is possible that Barack Obama’s teenage experiences may have left him psychologically, and perhaps even neurologically, incapable of performing fundamental tasks of his current position. Last Wednesday, at a ceremony to appoint Texas lawyer Shaarik Zafar to be special representative to Muslim communities, Secretary of State John Kerry said it was the United States’ Biblical “responsibility” to “confront climate change,” including to protect “vulnerable Muslim majority counties.” Kerry said Scripture, in particular the Book of Genesis, makes clear it is our “duty” to protect the planet and we should look at Muslim countries “with a sense of stewardship of earth,” adding, “That responsibility comes from God.” And here you thought all along that “Uncle Joe” was the resident crazy in the Obama administration.

The Internal Revenue Service has lost emails from five more employees who are part of congressional probes into the treatment of conservative groups that applied for tax-exempt status, the tax service disclosed Friday. The tax agency said in June that it could not locate an untold number of emails to and from Lois Lerner, who headed the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. The revelation set off a new round of investigations and congressional hearings. On Friday, the IRS issued a report to Congress saying the agency also lost emails from five other employees related to the probe,

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee on Friday said new allegations that U.S. commandos were ordered to “stand down” during the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, aren’t supported by findings from House and Senate investigators. Five commandos who survived the Benghazi attack, which claimed the lives of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, made the allegation in a new book, accusing the CIA station chief of delaying a rescue mission. Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) said lawmakers never came across evidence indicating the station chief had told his team to “stand down” and abort a

She was 81. Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, had been keeping vigil by her mother’s bedside at Mount Sinai Hospital as her condition failed to improve since she went into cardiac arrest on Aug. 28 at Yorkville Endoscopy. She was moved from the intensive care unit to a private room on Wednesday. The State Health Department has launched an investigation into the clinic.
