What Hamas Planned To
Do With The Terror Tunnels

Baltimore Jewish Life, by Jonathan Dahoah HeLevi

Original Article

The IDF has not yet located and destroyed all of Hamas´ terror tunnels, but the consensus about the intent behind them is quite clear. This is Jonathan Dahoah HeLevi of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, delivered a revealing speech on March 23, 2014, in which he stressed the strategic importance of the Hamas attack tunnels, which, he argued, have changed the balance of power with Israel, when taken together with his organization’s military build-up. In the meantime, the IDF’s war against the tunnels continues. On Monday IDF forces thwarted another terror attack after two groups of Hamas

All that "humanitarian" aid for the Palestinians went for war. Untold quantities of concrete were supplied, supposedly for homes and schools. It all went to build the tunnels (and enable the leaders to live in luxury) while the people live in squalor.

...sending hundreds of terrorists swarming through those tunnels to massacre Israelis in the Gaza-envelope kibbutzim and moshavim. Netanyahu said Sunday that the intended Hamas attacks on kibbutz kindergartens, homes and dining halls would have been “catastrophic.”

How do you make peace with an ideology which has as its core the destruction of children and innocent civilians? We´re not even talking about collateral damage - Hamas makes kids and civilians their primary targets, the people who can reproduce more Jews, which Hamas finds a horrifying prospect.

Israel is right to go in there and destroy Hamas and their tunnels and their missiles, no matter where they are stashed. At least Israel gave Hamas warning they were going to attach, giving Hamas the chance to get innocents out of the target areas. Yes, Israel knew there would be collateral damage. This is war, it´s unavoidable. But at least they are being civilized, acting like human beings. For Israel, their defense is existential. For Hamas, their aggression is born of hate.

What does Hamas do? They blow up their own Mosques and madrassas, take photos of dead children and women, and blame it on Israel.

How do you reason with that?

Note to Israel: Find a way to use these tunnels against the enemy. Yes, that would be difficult but at least give the appearance of using these tunnels to your benefit. If the enemy believes their tunnels aided in your attacks against them they will cease building tunnels for a long time.

No need for tunnels on our border, #2, we have the Coyote in Chief sending a plane to pick them up in Honduras so they won´t have the long, journey to endure. How on earth do you deal with that?? We have a lawless leader, a borderless country and a Sec. of State trying to help Israel´s enemy. And, do we think if the Islamic terrorists succeed in wiping out the "little Satan" as they call Israel, that they will not come for the U.S. again, which is called the "Big Satan"?

I would suggest using flyover ground penetrating radar to find and map the tunnels. It works particularly well in arid regions. It´s done in geology to find buried river channels, it should work to find tunnels.

The information they´re receiving from interrogations is appalling. Hamas was planning mass terror attacks on civilians using the tunnels. They would have come in force and murdered as many women and children as possible. Every tunnel has to be destroyed. Gaza has to be demilitarized. As long as Israel has Egypt and Saudi Arabia on their side they have to continue fighting.

They should have discovered them and left them alone. They could have put explosives in them and set them off during an invasion.
That would have killed plenty of terrorist without a single civilian getting harmed.
My dad used to leave a back screen door unlocked. it was alarmed. Once in the screen door a thief still had to get into the house through a locked solid door. The Jews could have done the same.

I like the way you think, #5.

For the life of me I will never understand the barbarians in the Middle East who are so opposed to Israel. If the barbarians were truly interested in making the region prosper, they would work with the Israelis to find agricultural solutions for turning useless arid acres into green productive land, or for those areas along the coast productive fishing zones. But, of course, they aren´t interested in anything "flowering" but hate. How sad - do they ever laugh?

Also, for the life of me, I will never understand why Israel is thought to be "the promised land" of the Bible. All that seems to have been promised is hateful, jealous enemies of the Jewish people. My question is: weren´t the 6 million dead Jews of WWII enough?

But they already have tunnels #4 - why can´t the airports REFUSE landing permits for any planes coming in unless they have a FULL MANIFEST? I was only saying that if we acted more like the IDF, we´d be at the border stopping all this crap. Don´t forget, we have full air defense compliments at For Bliss and could use it to stop any plane that refused to obey the landing blockade.

#2: Numerous drug distribution tunnels have been discovered along the southern U.S. border, many of them marvels of engineering with reinforced concrete construction, light rail systems, electricity and air conditioning. How long before cartels and terrorists use the tunnels as a means to commit not only terrorist acts, but snatch U.S. citizens? After the prisoner swaps that result, Barry will have Gitmo cleared out in no time. Speaking of prisoner swaps, what´s the latest on national treasure Pvt./Sgt. Bergdahl? The guy has disappeared from the news cycle. No doubt Holder is doing one of his patented "investigations" which, as we have learned recently, are endless in scope.

There are acoustic detection methods, active and passive, that I´m surprised are not being used to locate tunneling activities.

Additionally, there are some ´big data´ solutions to narrow the areas most likely to contain one or more tunnels.

Maybe these methods are being used, but I tend to doubt it. Too many tunnels have been recently detected, and I think the Israelis have been lucky so far with the captures and kills they´ve made.

The article talks about how dangerous the "tunnels" are but it´s the people that use them that are the danger. These people are vicious animals.

Consider the difference between people who use civilian populations to shield their military actions and plan to sneak across a border and kill all the civilians they can VS people (Israelis) that try their best not to kill civilians and even give warnings before they bomb buildings to allow the people to get out.

A bunch of vicious animals VS. a noble people fighting for survival.

Islamic terrorists believe their god has told them its OK to rob, enslave, and murder anyone around them that is different from them. Basically they are at war with the world.

Every non-Muslim needs to come to terms that Islamic terrorists cannot be negotiated with, and the problem cannot be ignored. It will not go away. Eventually the situation will deteriorate, and the people being attacked have to go to war as a matter of self-defense.

Right now our government is completely on the wrong page, and siding with terrorists. The problem is bad enough that our leadership must be changed.

Every Muslim needs to come to terms that their religion has been corrupted. Who calls on a person to murder their neighbor? God or the devil? Just who is Islam listening to? They need to reform or Islam will die as people flee the reality of Islam in horror.

IDF would do well to seize the attack tunnels and reverse their purposes. Ironically, Hamas has provided a boon to the IDF. Now, the IDF can guard Gaza underneath it permanently! On the way to owning the tunnels the IDF should use them as weapons. Drone torpedoes could be launched to mole through the system eliminating those who resist. Once the system is mapped and seized then ironically Hamas has handed victory to their would-be victims.

#9: I´ll break it down for you.

Hamas worships Allah, a false god, and the teachings of Islam, which call for world peace.

In their context (this is important to understand)...in THEIR context, world peace means that Islam is the only religion. The only people left in the world are those who worship Allah and those who are enslaved by Muslims for not worshiping Allah.

This alone should help everyone understand that Allah and the Christian God are NOT the same.

Islam preaches death, destruction, slavery, rape and lying as useful to the cause.

Christianity, despite the vile actions of some in the past and present, teaches the exact opposite.

God, the Christian God, does not contradict Himself. Therefore, Allah and God are NOT the same.

Islam is a satanic religion bent on world domination to help the Devil take as many as he can with him into the lake of fire.

That´s a simple characterization of the enemy. It´s much more complex, of course, but in a nutshell, that´s what all of this is about.

Anyone who believes that Hamas or any muslim organization in today´s world is going to "negotiate" with the Israelites is just plumb stupid. And they don´t have a clue of the history of the muslims. These people have been taught every since the days of Mohammad that they must kill everyone who doesn´t convert to Islam. And the hatred of the Jewish people goes back even farther, to the days of Abraham and the argument is the chosen "first born" of Abraham. Every Christian knows this story so no need to go into it now. But because of that, the muslims will NEVER give up their attempts to rid the world of every Jew. The best thing that Israel can do now is to re-take Gaza and put it back under Israeli control. At least the women and children will have a better life.

Times are really tough and we need to make some difficult decsions globally that are necessary and will not find our left-wing, socialist and communist peoples´ approval.

The US needs to demand that Europe, Asia and Latin America stand up against Hamas and Palestinians. If it is not met sanctions and embargos should be put in place to cripple economies globally.

With respect to Russia & Putin... it is a hard call because BO is soooooo weak.

Easy call is to buy him off, but with his recent oil adventures, the US may not have enough money to do that.

Finally with our totally wide open border in the southwest, terrorists and illegal aliens from all over the world will be invading the US.

The only true solution is live in gated-communities with all the necessities of live enclosed.

That the stupefied world cannot see a difference between the Hamas murderers and Israel speaks volumes. There is only 1 way that an intractable enemy sworn to annihilate you can be dealt with: UTTERLY destroy them once and for all and do it in such a way that other enemies watching for the murderers´ success will think twice before messing with Israel.

They only call for the murder of every non-Islamic person...all infidels on the face of the earth. of course, the Islamist apologists, even in our midsts deny this vehemently. But, it is very true. They will never stop this murder rampage...and even if they succeed (which they may), they will still continue to murder each other. I have to wonder if it is God´s plan to control the population of people on the face of this small planet. We have no natural predators except ourselves.

Excavating tunnels involves moving a tremendous amount of dirt and rocks as well as heavy equipment to get the work done. Did they dig these things by hand with shovels and wheelbarrows and scatter the dirt around with their feet at night with no one even noticing it at all? The fact that they did so much of it undetected is remarkable in and of itself and a smack in the face of Israeli intelligence. Ridiculousness.

In light of the first diagnosis of Ebola in the U.S. earlier this week, concerns over whether the disease will spread— and by what means— still linger. The family of the Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan has been quarantined in the Dallas apartment he was visiting before being admitted to an area hospital. Fifty people who came in contact with Duncan since his arrival in the U.S. on Sept. 20 are being monitored, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed Friday. The CDC said in a release Friday that it has recorded 10 "possible" Ebola cases nationwide. Of those, 17 have resulted in blood tests.

We know that conservatives are happier people than liberals, but did you know the latest social science says we’re neater people and smell better, too? From the wonderful annals of social science: A 2006 report from the Pew Research Center showed that 45% of conservative Republicans reported being very happy, as compared to 30% of liberal Democrats. According to the report, this “partisan happiness gap” had shown up in surveys every year since 1972. What explains the happiness gap? A recently retired Secret Service agent told MailOnline on Thursday that former director Julia Pierson´s resignation will be welcomed by the agency´s rank-and-file because ´people in the service thought she was a joke from Day One.´ He attributed her swift fall from grace to a cadre of ´p***ed off agents who had had enough´ of feeling disrespected by the service´s first female director. ´Putting her in charge was part of the [Obama] administration´s push to feminize the service after the "hookergate" nightmare,´ the agent said, referring to agents who were fired after patronizing prostitutes during a security-check trip to Colombia

Deadly, irrational, and determined, the intruder snuck across a weakened perimeter. Eluding capture, the intruder was detained only after missteps and close calls. The spin began soon after the threat was isolated. Information was selectively leaked. Half-truths and untruths were uttered. Responsibility was avoided; privileges and credentials asserted; authority reasserted. Trust us. Remain calm. Don’t panic. This is the template of recent events. A mental case jumps the White House fence. He makes it to the East Room before he’s tackled by an off-duty Secret Service agent. Initial statements turn out to be misleading or false. We discover that lapses in

It’s the “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” A New York appeals court next week will consider whether chimps should have the same rights as human beings. The extraordinary proceeding is the result of a lengthy battle by animal-rights activists who argue that animals with human qualities — including chimps — are entitled to human protections, including freedom from captivity. Steven Wise, part of the Nonhuman Rights Project, which is leading the effort, will have to convince a panel of Albany appellate judges that a chimp name Tommy is a “legal person” to get him moved from a cage

President Obama was at Northwestern University on Thursday to deliver an economic speech that, he and his team hoped, would lay out the case for why the public is better off today than they were six years ago -- even if they didn´t feel it in their everday lives. Instead, Obama just gave every Republican ad-maker in the country more fodder for negative ads linking Democratic candidates to him. Here are the four sentences that will draw all of the attention (they come more than two thirds of the way through the speech): "I am not on the ballot this

A presidential defeat isn’t an easy thing to bounce back from. And Mitt Romney did it twice. So it was understandable that after he lost the presidential race in 2012, he was adamant about closing the door to the possibility of a third campaign. But recently, speculation is whirling that Romney may not be so adamant anymore. When asked if he was running in a New York Times interview published earlier this week, Romney said : “I have nothing to add to the story. We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race,” he said. “We’ll see what happens.” That response, which

Meghan McCain joined the dog pile on the Secret Service this week, saying she’s had “nothing but horrible experiences" with the agency and likening the agents to “glorified mall cops.” The 29-year-old author and television personality, who is also the daughter of former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), opened up on Pivot’s “TakePart Live” about some of her interactions with the Secret Service. "I have nothing but horrible experiences with the Secret Service,” McCain said. “One of my friends called them glorified mall cops and I don´t think that´s terribly far off. I found them cliquey. WASHINGTON — Representative Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland was at the grocery store the other day when he ran into an elderly black woman who expressed growing concern about President Obama’s safety. Why, she asked, wasn’t he being better protected by his Secret Service agents? The furor that led to this week’s resignation of the director of the Secret Service resonated deeply among blacks, outraged that those supposed to be guarding the first black president were somehow falling down on the job — and suspicious even without evidence that it may be deliberate. “It is something that is widespread in

Top White House officials on Friday worked to reassure the American public that the national response to Ebola is under control. Leaders of the country’s health, defense and military branches stressed that they are taking the right steps to contain the spread of the deadly virus, which was first diagnosed in the U.S. on Tuesday. It is the stuff that nightmares are made of, and day by day it is getting worse. The Ebola epidemic, says Dr Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organisation (WHO), is now “the greatest peacetime challenge” since the Second World War. Yet her own organisation’s tardiness, partly caused by cuts, together with reductions in--and misuse of--funds elsewhere, are largely responsible for Ebola spiralling out of control. [Snip] It’s just the beginning. At present the numbers of people infected are thought to be doubling in under 30 days--and the blue-chip US Center for Disease Control and Prevention predicts that, if Ebola

ATLANTA — Texas, America’s second-most populous state behind California, saw 13 of its last abortion clinics turn away women on Friday, after a federal appeals court upheld a law that practically guarantees that only a handful of clinics will remain open in the state. The strictest-of-its-kind Texas law requires abortion providers to build hospital-grade facilities and obtain sometimes impossible-to-get hospital admitting privileges. After signed into law last year by Gov. Rick Perry (R), the law forced most of the 41 clinics operating to close. Thursday’s ruling wiped out a brief victory this summer for abortion rights proponents,

Go to a grocery store in California and buy all the milk, eggs and vegetables you want. But there’s one thing you won’t find at the checkout line, beginning July 1, 2015: Plastic bags to carry your stuff home. Gov. Jerry Brown (D) on Tuesday signed into law a ban on single-use plastic bags, making California the first state to prohibit stores from using the ubiquitous carry-alls. Shoppers will be charged 10 cents for every paper bag and heavy-duty plastic bag they use. “This bill is a step in the right direction,” Brown said in a press release announcing his approval. “It
