The three options for ´Meet The Press´
Politico, by Dylan Byers

Original Article

David Gregory is toast, probably. Both Emily Smith and Lloyd Grove report that the "Meet The Press" host will likely be pushed out following the November midterms. It that true? It almost doesn´t matter. It feels right. No one at NBC News is contesting it, not even the network spokesperson, who only cautioned that the "false rumors" be taken "with a grain of salt." The cat is out of the bag, and at a certain point talk of Gregory´s impending removal gains so much steam that it becomes a reality. Unless, of course, the ratings go up. But the ratings

It´s accepted wisdom that Americans don´t hold Washington in high regard. Now, new research from political scientists at John Hopkins University shows that the feeling is mutual. (Snip) That´s what researchers Jennifer Bachner and Benjamin Ginsberg wanted to find out. They surveyed upwards of 850 Federal employees, Hill staffers, contractors, consultants, lobbyists and think tankers. While we know plenty about our elected lawmakers, we know much less about this group of Beltway insiders, who you can think of as the "policymaking community." As a group they play an active and direct role in crafting legislation and setting the tone of

Lobbyist Paul Magliocchetti told the FBI that an aide to Rep. Peter J. Visclosky (D-Ind.) offered him legislative earmarks in exchange for campaign contributions annually for about a decade, according to newly released FBI files. The lobbyist — who pleaded guilty to illegally funneling $386,000 in campaign donations to lawmakers — said a representative of Visclosky’s office first approached him in 1997 and told him earmarks were “for sale” for $10,000 to $15,000 in campaign cash for Visclosky, the documents show. When Visclosky later became chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee for energy and water development, the price for earmarks increased

Foreign governments and their citizens are forbidden from contributing to U.S. elections. If a foreign government hires a lobbyist to influence the legislative or executive branches of the United States, that lobbyist must disclose his contracts and activities with the Justice Department in compliance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act. FARA is so strict that it applies not only to lobbyists, but to any American who works within the United States to influence our politics on behalf of a foreign interest. Break the law, and you go jail. Yet there is a loophole for foreign contributions to U.S. think tanks.

Scott Walker can’t stop digging himself into a hole with union workers. After stripping public-sector union members of collective bargaining rights in 2011, one might think that there wasn’t more the Republican governor could do to anger workers. But Walker, who is locked in a tight race Wisconsin against Democratic challenger Mary Burke, ran afoul of the president of a local steelworkers’ union over a recent campaign ad. In the ad, Walker speaks to the camera from a deep hole. Jeff Kaminsiki, head of the United Steelworkers Local 2006, filed a complaint with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration over

In one of her first campaign stops of the midterm cycle, a women´s political gathering in Washington Thursday evening, Michelle Obama implored Democrats to engage in the 2014 election. She also acknowledged her party´s embattled chair. "While she wasn’t able to join us today, I also want to recognize another fabulous woman -- our extraordinary DNC Chair,

The U.S Senate passed a bill Thursday evening that will give President Barack Obama the authority to arm moderate Syrian rebels, which is a key part of his plan to fight the jihadist group Islamic State (also known as ISIS and ISIL). Shortly after the Senate passed the bill, which was passed by the House on Wednesday, Obama spoke from the White House. "I´m pleased that Congress, a majority of Democrats and a majority of Republicans in both the House and Senate, have now voted to support a key element of our strategy," Obama said. Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz identified the shooter as Don Spirit, 51. The sheriff told reporters the children ranged in age from 3 months to 10 years. He didn´t name the daughter or the grandchildren because not every relative had been notified of their deaths. The sheriff wouldn´t disclose what kind of firearm was used. Schultz said Spirit, who called 911 around 4 p.m., killed himself after a deputy arrived on the scene.

It would be fair to say that she sounds like, well, a lot like other politicians. And this would be accurate.
