The plight of Iraq’s Christians, targeted by Muslim militants, prompted a U.S. senator to write to the Secretary of State, voicing alarm about “their potential extinction from their ancient homeland” and saying the situation demands “an urgent response from our government.” The letter was addressed to Condoleezza Rice, the date was Sept. 11, 2007, and the writer was Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), then running for the Democratic presidential nomination. While Iraq’s Christian minority had come under attack and faced grave hardships since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 – a spate of church bombings in Aug. 2004 killed at

Obama didn´t mean those Christians, he meant the Christians that he and the NY Times, NBC and other old media were so concerned about when Bush was president. Those Christians were so different from today´s Christians just as Obama is so different from Bush.

God help those poor Christians in Mosul because Obama has no intention of protecting them.

There has never been a more calculating or cunning President. Everything he utters is custom-designed lie for a particular, targeted audience. Subsequent proof of the fact it was a lie is simply ignored or brushed off.

A lot of people were suckered in 2008. What is difficult to comprehend is how anyone could still believe him in 2012. The fact that they did has greatly emboldened him. You can tell he enjoys knowing that he can say anything to anyone no matter how blatantly false it may be, and not suffer any serious consequences. THAT is the bear that´s loose now.

Canadian researchers: “Of all personality measures, sadism showed the most robust associations with trolling.” They come in all shapes, forms, manners of caps lock, and misspelled profanity, but one thing’s certain: no one likes an internet troll. Internet trolls are the thorn in the side of most people who dare to express an opinion on the internet. Trolls are the people completely disinterested in honest debate, but love to hit and run. They comment on blog posts, news articles, Facebook posts and anywhere else the internet provides a forum for their psychosis to be displayed in all its demented glory. Here

Suddenly, a spate of Republicans have come out in favor of over-the-counter contraception—putting Democrats in a tight spot politically. Making birth-control pills available without a prescription has become an unlikely midterm-election issue. Even more surprising is that the idea is mostly being pushed by Republicans. Democrats are in the unusual position of pushing back hard, insisting the move would actually limit access and breathlessly reminding voters, We´re the ones who´ve cared about women all along! The bickering over the details about how such a plan might work and whose concern for women is more sincere obscures a pretty amazing fact:

The headline might be a bit jarring, but what might be the unintended consequences of the introduction of unsearchable smartphones? The question occurs at least to us in the wake of the announcement by Apple and Google that they’ll put some smartphone data “out of reach of police and the courts,” as the Wall Street Journal put it in a dispatch on rising concern the announcement is causing among the authorities. Some 70% of Americans do not designate the Obama administration as friendly toward religion, according to a Pew poll released Monday. The share of Americans that sees the Obama administration as friendly toward religion took a dramatic drop to 30% from 37% in 2009. The percentage that rates the administration hostile to religion increased from 17% in 2009 to 29% in the latest poll. These findings come from a new survey by the Pew Research Center, conducted Sept. 2-9 among 2,002 U.S. adults. Some of this suspicion of Obama seems related to the administration’s perceived hostility toward religious liberty, manifested

This has been a big year for gay rights in America. In state after state, either judges or voters have affirmed the constitutionality of same-sex marriage, and public support for gay unions reached an all-time high. But there´s still a tension between the acknowledgement of gay rights and the acceptance of gayness itself. A new Pew poll on religion in public life found that exactly half of respondents said they consider "homosexual behavior" sinful, a five-percentage-point increase since May 2013. This view is most prominent among white evangelicals and black protestants; more than three-quarters of each group said they see

The Republican Party’s top leader in Congress is catching flak for a comment that appears to call the jobless lazy – a comment that has rekindled an old challenge for the party: appearing insensitive or uncaring toward Americans who are poor or in financial difficulty. House Speaker John Boehner was asked after a speech last week to comment on a plan for addressing poverty – promoted by a Republican colleague, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. Speaker Boehner gave a response that was favorable toward Representative Ryan´s plan, but not so favorable about Americans’ work ethic.
