Loon population rebounding in Vermont
Associated Press, by Staff

Colchester – Experts estimate there are nearly 300 adult loons living on Vermont´s lakes and ponds, up from just a couple dozen 30 years ago. On Saturday, more than 200 volunteers spread out across Vermont for the annual loon survey. The results of the survey are trickling in, but Eric Hanson of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies and the coordinator of the Vermont Loon Conservation Project, said there are many more birds now than just a few years ago. He said 15 years ago there were around 100 loons. In 1983, biologists counted only 29. "It is a decent, stable population. I'm hoping that actually things do start to level out.

OK, I grew up in Vermont, and loons were rare then. When I go home to visit, they are everywhere, but I still love the memory of a conservative Vermont. Presently, it is infected with “progressives”, while the real Vermonters live in trailer parks, having sold their land to people from Connecticut, Mass., New York etc, each of which opened an “antique” store to sell junk to tourists. In New Hampshire, actual loons are on every lake, but haven’t infected the local populations particularly. Any small lake will support only a few loon pairs. But seriously, they are lovely birds, and can swim under water for thousands of feet.

There may be no polar bears (which is doubtful) but there are plenty of loons, coyotes, wolves and chicken littles. The species winning the grand prize of Come-backs? The snakes, most of which will be found in the halls of congress, Washington, DC

WASHINGTON — As Obama administration officials sought to reassure Americans about efforts to contain Ebola in the wake of the first U.S. case, the military announced Friday that an additional 1,000 troops could be sent to West Africa to help fight the virus. And that number could go higher than that, said Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary. "I´m not going to put a floor or ceiling on this," Kirby said. President Obama initially ordered 3,000 troops to West Africa to help build hospitals, labs and treatment centers and provide logistics help. They are not going to treat Ebola

Ebola is spreading at the rate of five new cases an hour in Sierra Leone, according to figures released as world leaders and experts on disease control gathered in London to discuss the outbreak. The figures from Save the Children showed there were 765 new cases last week in the west African country alone, but only 327 hospital beds to treat infected patients. The charity said the “terrifying” rate of the spread of the disease was outstripping medical supplies and threatened a breakdown of Sierra Leone’s already fragile health system. The rate of spread of the deadly virus is projected

An investigation was underway Tuesday after Iraqi military pilots mistakenly gave food, water and ammunition to enemy ISIS militants instead of their own soldiers, a senior security official and a brigadier told NBC News. The supplies were supposed to help besieged Iraqi army officers and soldiers who had been fighting Islamist extremists for a week in Saglawyah and the village of Al-Sijar in the country’s western province of Anbar. “Some pilots, instead of dropping these supplies over the area of the Iraqi army, threw it over the area that is controlled by ISIS fighters,” said Hakim Al-Zamili, a Sadrist lawmaker
