Don´t give Hamas a cease-fire. They only use that gambit when they are losing. Every cease-fire gives them a chance to rearm and regroup so they can start all over again. It´s Lucy and the football all over again.

Don´t do it.

It must not be going well for Hamas in Gaza if it is calling for a truce.

May the Israelis turn Gaza into a parking lot.

Meshal doesn´t speak for Hamas in Gaza, there won´t be a truce. Israel won´t settle for a truce until they destroy all the cross border tunnels. Kerry´s a fool.

Lots of interesting items in the update. Including the emir of Qatar meeting with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, and the PLO endorsement of Hamas demands. Abbas didn´t make the announcement. One of his deputies did. Abbas is getting death threats from his own people. He fled to Jordan.

Judge Thokozile Masipa has ruled that Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius did not murder his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines´ Day 2013. But she said she would deliver her verdict on a lesser charge, culpable homicide, on Friday. Here is a guide to the judge´s reasoning: Premeditated murder The state argued that Mr Pistorius had had an argument with Ms Steenkamp, after which he deliberately shot her dead. The judge ruled this had not been proved, as there was only circumstantial evidence of an argument - uncorroborated witnesses´ statements. She also dismissed witnesses who said they had heard Ms Steenkamp scream before the shots were fired,

Although few medical experts realize it, part of the population in West Africa is immune to the Ebola virus, according to virologists who specialize in the disease. Assuming they are correct, and if those people can be identified, they could be a great help in fighting the outbreak. Immune persons could safely tend the sick and bury the dead just as smallpox survivors did in the centuries before smallpox vaccine. Also, antibodies could be harvested from their blood to treat new Ebola victims. But many factors remain unclear, including which Africans have antibodies and how much antibody is needed to be protective. The

WASHINGTON--US President Barack Obama will tell the American people on Wednesday night that he plans to order strikes against Islamic State forces in both Syria and Iraq until the group is ultimately destroyed. As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan. For starters, the president doesn’t believe the Islamic State is a current threat to the U.S.: “So ISIL poses a threat to the people of Iraq

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." He didn´t say they are perverting their religion; he said they´re not even part of that religion.
