MH17 crash victims finally shown some

The first bodies of those killed in the MH17 massacre have arrived in the Netherlands to be greeted by grieving relatives and members of the Dutch royal family. The remains of around 40 international victims of the Malaysia Airlines tragedy left Ukraine´s Kharkiv airport on a convoy of planes earlier today, ahead of a painstaking identification process which is expected to take several months. There is concern however, that as many as 95 victims--one third of the total number of passengers on board MH17--may still be missing after Dutch officials counted only 200 bodies on the morgue train on which

Thanks be to God. It´s about time these victims were shown respect. However, whether this grief of the European people will translate into their governments having the courage to agree to sanctions that mean something is doubtful.

How does Holland´s holding this ceremony to receive the bodies "shame Russia" as the headline proclaims?

The article doesn´t elaborate on that curious and rather out-of-place statement in the headline. Maybe it´s just part of the on-going onslaught to demonize Russia and Putin. The world always seems to need a villain and bogeyman especially for tragedies like this one.

According to several senior US analysts, the Islamic State (ISIS) extremist jihadi danger not only threatens western Europe--the presence of hundreds of Chechen fighters in the ISIS ranks puts Russia squarely under the cross-hairs as well. I´ve been saying it for weeks--you can´t defeat Isil without putting boots on the ground. And now US General Martin Dempsey, the head of the American Armed Forces, has confirmed what anyone with a reasonable understanding of what is required to defeat Isil knows, that some form of Western ground forces will be needed if this threat is to be fully destroyed. [Snip] The campaign to destroy Isil will be more akin to how we approached the initial invasion of Afghanistan in 2001: Western forces working in conjunction with pro-Western allies such as the Northern Alliance--or France´s military intervention in

A British man spouts nonsense in front of a camera, does something incredibly stupid, becomes an internet video hit. It happens every couple of months, but never before in a way that’s done so much to impact policy as the “Isil” murder videos. Whether you want to or not, you can’t avoid the images of the beheadings of US journalists and UK aid workers in the last couple of weeks. The murderer, “Jihadi John”, as we’ve taken to calling him, is doubtless pleased with his notoriety, with the fact he´s graced the front pages of newspapers back in the UK.

Judging by facial expression and body language alone, I would guess that Alex Salmond´s private polling is telling him that he has lost. And if there is a "No" victory is by a small-ish margin, that will be the best possible outcome for him personally. As he says himself, this decision will be forever. There will be no repetition (mercifully) of this ugly experiment in mob initimidation and bare-faced lying. A British man convicted and jailed for Islamic terrorism in 1999 has, in a lengthy and indulgent feature with Sky News, blamed violent computer games for “dehumanised” young Britons going abroad to fight for the Islamic state. The twelve minute report – which showed at regular intervals yesterday on Sky News – features a number of recorded interviews with British Muslims expressing their opinions on the reasons for the radicalisation of young muslims. One, a rapper, blames ‘injustice’ and cites Muslims in the UK who are so distrustful of the government and media they don’t even believe the political executions

MEMRI noted that the cleric, Sheik Iyad Abu Funun, was released to the Palestinian Authority-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria as part of the Shalit prisoner swap deal in 2011. He was arrested again, and was sentenced to complete his 10-year term in prison. In July 2013, after threatening to go on a hunger strike, he was released and deported to

He is best known for his 1971 recording of Christian hymn Morning Has Broken, a top 10 hit in both the UK and US. Stevens had a number of other hits during

Democrats are now (very slightly) favored to hold the Senate majority on Nov. 4, according to Election Lab, the Post´s statistical model of the 2014 midterm elections. Election Lab puts Democrats´ chances of retaining their majority at 51 percent -- a huge change from even a few months ago when the model predicted that Republicans had a better than 80 percent chance of winning the six seats they need to take control. (Worth noting: When the model showed Republicans as overwhelming favorites, our model builders -- led by George Washington University´s John Sides -- warned that the model could and

First Lady Michelle Obama has made healthy eating and exercise her signature issue. But, a recent study published by the Sage Journal found that her “elitist” advice actually “shames poor and middle class mothers.” The College Fix added that the study found that Michelle Obama’s healthy eating program is also sexist. It’s also sexist, the study’s authors suggest, noting that “intentionally or not, it places the burden of a healthy home-cooked meal on women.” Sage Journals published the study by North Carolina researchers Sarah Bowen, Sinikka Elliott and Joslyn Brenton. Washington - The current threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, will test not only the resolve and strategic judgment of America and its allies, but also our nation’s fidelity to a basic constitutional principle. Our Constitution reserves to Congress the power to declare war and designates our president as the commander in chief, but our recent history has been characterized by executive overreach and legislative abdication in the initiation of military action. The current crisis gives us an opportunity to restore the proper balance between the branches. America’s history since 2001 should compel us to fix the way
