The 5 Happiest Cities In America

Independent Journal Review, by Caroline Schaeffer

A working paper from professors from Harvard and the Vancouver School examined the happiness of cities based on data from a CDC study and weighted based on demographics and income, PolicyMic reports. (Map) Some might suspect that they’re just putting something in the water, but the five happiest cities in America are all in the same state: Louisiana. Those cities are Lafayette, Houma, Shreveport-Bossier City, Baton Rouge, and Alexandria. The Northeast and one city in the Midwest did not fare too well: Scranton, Erie, and Pittsburgh, PA, Gary, IN, and New York City were found to be the top five

I am a little suspicious of the study because I pass through Baton Rouge from time to time and I am happiest once I get the heck out of there. Maybe its just the half-mile on either side of I-10, but I make a point never to stop any more.

According to this "fact" Pennsylvania might as well commit suicide.

It wasn´t all that long ago that another group voted Pittsburgh as the number one city in the country in which to live. Somebody polled the wrong people or somebody didn´t pay enough bribe money.

Good, even more incentive for the mighty Steelers to crush Brady and the Patriots this year. Seriously, Pittsburgh often comes in as one of the top cities for livability. You just have to view winter as exciting and plan ahead if you are driving across town.

The New York Times has lost faith in President Barack Obama‘s pledge to avoid committing ground troop to the ISIS fight in Syria and Iraq. When Obama gave a speech last week that laid out his plan to combat ISIS, an Islamic terrorist network, he said the U.S. would engage in military airstrikes but would not be utilizing its own ground troops. That policy seemed to reverse on Tuesday, however, when Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey said there could be scenarios where ground troops would be necessary. The White House then tried turning that back around, saying

Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and the Benghazi Select Committee (worst Fleetwood Mac cover band ever) will officially convene Wednesday morning. The committee, featuring seven Republicans and five Democrats, is another congressional investigation into the events surrounding the attack on the American compound in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012. Previous congressional investigations, including one just wrapped up last month, have not yielded any smoking guns against the Obama administration. But Gowdy’s investigation is expected to last well into 2015 or beyond, potentially complicating a presidential run by Hillary Clinton, who was Secretary of State when the attacks occurred.

Ahead of the House Select Committee on Benghazi’s highly-anticipated first public hearing Wednesday, Democrats offered some of their own answers to questions surrounding the terrorist attack while Republicans urged them not to prejudge the investigation before it starts. The jockeying follows months of behind-the-scenes work that will culminate in an open airing of how well the State Department has done in implementing its own internal review panel’s recommendations for fixing the kinds of problems that led to the attack, which cost the lives of Ambassador J. The unveiling of President Obama’s new plan to contain the Ebola virus did little to appease critics who questioned the White House’s commitment to halting an epidemic with wide-ranging national security consequences. After weeks of prodding from African nations, the president on Tuesday used a trip to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to announce a blueprint to send up to 3,000 military personnel to West Africa, part of an effort to spend roughly $750 million to limit the spread of Ebola. "Ebola is now an epidemic of the likes we have not seen before,” Obama insisted. "It is
