Obamacare Aid for Plan Buyers
on U.S. Exchange Overturned

Bloomberg News, by Andrew Zajac

President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul suffered a potentially crippling blow as a U.S. appeals court ruled the government can’t give financial assistance to anyone buying coverage on the insurance marketplace run by federal authorities. The decision, if it withstands appeals, may deprive more than half the people who signed up for Obamacare the tax credits they need to buy a health plan. The government will immediately seek review of the court’s decision and in the meantime nothing has changed for people getting premium tax credits, Justice Department spokeswoman Emily Pierce said. A White House official said the U.S. will seek a review

Ben Carson on 2nd Amendment: People

Dr. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and the author of six best-selling books, said the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution was put there so Americans could support the military, if needed, during a domestic invasion but “more importantly, so that people could protect themselves from an overly aggressive government, if that ever happened.” Carson added that gun rights under the 2nd Amendment are “vitally important,” that he “would never compromise the 2nd Amendment in any way,” and that one of the first things dictators do is confiscate people’s weapons, which “we don’t ever want to allow” in America. Federal Court Strikes Down

A federal court on Tuesday struck down health insurance subsidies for people in the 36 states that did not set up their own Obamacare exchanges. The ruling "is a repudiation of Obamacare and all the lawlessness that has come with it," Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tweeted shortly after a three-judge panel in Washington, D.C. issued its ruling in Halbig v. Burwell. While the ruling is a "significant victory for the American people & rule of law...we must not rest," Cruz added. The case, filed in May 2013, challenged the legality of the Obamacare subsidies for people enrolled in exchanges set up by the

Anyone concerned about the survival of the greatest nation on earth knows that our national sovereignty depends in part on knowing who is coming in to the country, having defined borders and laws pertaining to immigration enforced. Anyone interested in open borders and challenging immigration law that sets definitions and restrictions therefore, either doesn´t understand the consequences, or knows damn well that the nation will not survive-and that ideologically-driven person is our nation´s enemy. In a report out of Michigan, a protest was organized over the prospect now seemingly beyond the people´s control, that the federal government under the leadership of Barack

Despite repeated requests for comment, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, has so far remained silent on the federal government’s quiet transfer of an unknown number of illegal immigrant children from the Texas border to Prince William County in Virginia last week, a move that was highly criticized by local government officials and Virginia residents, CNSNews.com reported. But McAuliffe has not always been quiet on the issues of illegal immigration and border security. In a 2007 radio interview, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee demanded the federal government “shut the borders down.” “I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or

Working-Class Whites Lose

Columbus, Ohio — For the first time, working-class whites make up less than half of Ohio´s eligible voters, part of a demographic shift in a key Midwestern swing state that is pushing political parties to widen their appeal beyond the once-dominant bloc. Nationwide, working-class whites — defined as those ages 18 to 64, with less than a bachelor´s degree — are more likely to be socially conservative, less optimistic about their futures and skeptical of big government. But in Ohio, the group has been much more politically divided: encompassing deeply religious, GOP-leaning conservatives in rural areas as well as unionized blue-collar

Some time ago I got a tweet from a young lady who informed me that she was sure that I was not paying my "fair share" and although she could neither tell me what my fair share would consist of or knew anything about the amount of tax and other state and federal assessments I pay, she was sure it was not enough and I should be forced to pay more. She said she had a hard time getting ahead and she seemed to think that part of the reason for that was because people like me did not pay their fair share of taxes so that people like her could get the government aid they were entitled to, to level the playing field, she also informed me not to tell her to "try harder" because she had done that and it simply didn't work.

Moral Equivalence Is Usually

Efforts to proclaim moral equivalence are not always misguided; sometimes each side is equally at fault or close enough. But these efforts are often misguided and unhelpful — and sometimes harmful. Throughout my life, there has been an increasing trend to attach moral equivalence to all kinds of disputes and conflicts, such as Israel vs. Hamas, which is the subject of a future column. I assume this is mostly an outgrowth of our culture´s descent into moral relativism, but it´s also a product of our intellectual laziness. We see it everywhere. It is a common practice in describing marriages gone wrong. "It

The bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie was premeditated mass murder. Gadhafi was taking revenge for Reagan´s raid on Tripoli in 1986. The downing of KAL 007, flying from Anchorage to Seoul, was mass murder in the second degree. Seeing an aircraft intrude into Russian air space, Soviet officers brutally ordered it shot down. The downing of the Malaysian airliner that took the lives of 298 men, women and children was not deliberate terrorism. No one wanted to massacre those women and children. It was a horrendous military blunder, like the U.S. shoot-down of the Iranian Airbus by the Vincennes in 1988. That

Washington — A federal appeals court delivered a serious setback to President Barack Obama´s health care law Tuesday, potentially derailing billions of dollars in subsidies for many low- and middle-income people who bought policies. In a case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, a group of small business owners argued that the law authorizes subsidies only for people who buy insurance through markets established by the states — not by the federal government. A divided court agreed, in a 2-1 decision that could mean premium increases for more than half the 8 million Americans who have

In a potentially crippling blow to Obamacare, a federal appeals court panel declared Tuesday that government subsidies worth billions of dollars that helped 4.7 million people buy insurance on HealthCare.gov are illegal. The 2-1 ruling said such subsidies can be granted only to people who bought insurance in an Obamacare exchange run by an individual state or the District of Columbia—not on the federally run exchange HealthCare.gov. "Section 36B plainly makes subsidies available in the Exchanges established by states," wrote Senior Circuit Judge Raymond Randolph in his majority opinion, where he was joined by Judge Thomas Griffith. Pogo, the possum-philosopher from the Okefenokee Swamp of the comics page, got it right: “We have met the enemy, and he is us.” Everything is spinning out of control, and this is where the passionate pursuit of pleasure has brought us. Everybody is eager to go somewhere else, anywhere else, but there’s the dawning realization that “you can’t get there from here.” The rush to judgment about who to blame for the crisis and chaos on the border only confuses the unwary. Some people want to blame it all on Barack Obama, and he deserves much blame. He’s the leader of

Some truths CNN reveals only accidentally. One such truth Anderson Cooper shared on the night of July 17. In speaking about the shoot down of Malaysian airliner MH 17 earlier that day, Cooper referred back to “July 17, 1996, when TWA Flight 800 was shot down off the coast of Long Island in New York.” (snip)wo days earlier, Cooper hosted a CNN special report on the subject, “Witnessed: The Crash of TWA Flight 800.” To understand the depth of media-government complicity, it is useful to compare “Witnessed” with two prior videos. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wasn’t out to make news when he addressed the annual conference of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and devoted most of his 50-minute speech to the Magna Carta, which turns 800 years old in 2015. But Kennedy did let on that he doesn’t belong to the school of Constitution-worshipers who base their legal doctrines on what they glean to be the original, literal meaning of every word and phrase in the nation’s founding document.

So, then, what are we supposed to think when the governor of Texas dispatches National Guardsmen to the state border with Mexico in order to deflect the onrush of illegal border-crossers? What are we supposed to do? Do? A strange concept these days. Do something about the Russians and their depraved allies for shooting down a passenger plane? Do something about the depraved crowd of terrorists who provoked Israel into assaulting the tunnels in which they skulk? Convinced that their region has suffered as much Obama administration meddling as it can possibly stand, Israel and Egypt took the extraordinary step earlier this week of jointly rejecting requests by US Secretary of State John Kerry to involve himself in ceasefire talks with the terrorist group Hamas. Israeli and Egyptian diplomats both claim Egyptian efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed as a direct result of Secretary Kerry’s announcement he was prepared to join the talks. He apparently made the announcement without first consulting either of the parties. The diplomats are convinced that their own

A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here. The flood of illegal immigrant children, piling up like human debris on the US border, won’t stop

WASHINGTON— President Barack Obama said Joe Biden would make a "superb" president, but questioned whether his vice president or potential rival Hillary Clinton would want to endure another campaign for the White House, a media report Monday said. Obama, in an interview with the New Yorker, said Biden "has seen the job up close, he knows what the job entails. He understands how to separate what´s really important from what´s less important. I think he´s got great people skills. He enjoys politics, and he´s got important relationships up on the Hill (in Congress) that would serve him well." "Joe would

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund has filed a class action lawsuit against the city of Detroit for water shutoffs that members claim are racially motivated. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department stopped service to about 7,200 buildings with overdue bills in June, compared to 1,570 in the same month last year. The issue gained national attention last month after activists appealed to the United Nations for help. The shutoffs are “being done in a discriminatory fashion,” the NAACP’s Veronica Joice told a local CBS affiliate. “They should at least take a look at whether there’s a better way to do this that doesn’t affect the most vulnerable citizens

President Barack Obama said on Monday that he’s in favor of Washington, D.C., gaining statehood. “I’m in D.C., so I’m for it,” he said to a room of mostly young, minority boys who were at the White House for Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. “Folks in D.C. pay taxes like everybody else. They contribute to the overall well-being of the country like everybody else. They should be represented like everybody else.” Obama said he’s supported the idea of statehood for D.C. “for quite sometime” but acknowledged that “the politics of it” would make it something difficult to move through Congress.
