Obama scraps Jimmy Kimmel

As crises continue erupting all over the world, presidential fundraising trips still make the cut. Late-night television appearances, on the other hand, do not. White House spokesman Josh Earnest confirmed Tuesday that tentative plans to appear on Jimmy Kimmel´s late night show during President Obama´s three-day trip to the West Coast were scrapped, at least in part because of how it would look. The decision "is at least in part related to the challenges of doing a comedy show in the midst of some of these other, more serious matters that the president´s dealing with in the international scene," Earnest told reporters. The president has taken

Seriously, 0bama is just not funny..that is thinking there can be "more serious matters" than his golf game that need his attention.

More serious matters like avoiding his responsibilities and traipsing around "fund raising". When the going gets tough, obama leaves town.

#6 Hissy fit? When he was told by his handlers (Wookie and ValJar) that this didn´t look good, he promptly stuck out his tongue and put up one finger at them. Then he stomped over to the nearest corner to pout, muttering all the while they made him miss another evening impersonating a tee-vee star. He does so love that camera, almost as much as his teleprompter.

Why Lena Dunham’s
NYT mag cover is all wrong
New York Post, by Robert Rorke    Original Article

The image I have of “Girls” star Lena Dunham, judging by last season’s episodes of the HBO series, is that of a girl riding a bicycle in the Hamptons in a two-piece bathing suit that is two sizes too small. Exposing her body in all of its glory is part of the Dunham hard-sell — you either buy into her “freedom at any cost” philosophy, or you don’t. How curious, then, that the New York Times, in choosing Dunham for the cover of its Culture Issue, on sale this Sunday, decided to photograph her as a piece of neoclassical art. The photographer, Victoria Diehl, modeled the Dunham portrait on a bust of Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix

Dallas - Good coaches are also teachers, and Tricia Roos is a good coach. The Bishop Lynch volleyball team has won three state championships in her seven years as head coach. This season should be particularly special, not only because Bishop Lynch is trying to win its third state title in a row, but also because Coach Roos is five-and-a-half months pregnant. But what should be a time of joy has become, as she puts it, "a teaching moment." (Snip) Coach Roos´ baby has trisomy 18, a chromosome disorder so bad that doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy. Roos chose to keep her baby.

Australia has raised its terror alert level to "high" for the first time since the national alert system was introduced in 2003. According to the four-level system, a reading of "high" means a terrorist attack "is likely," however the country´s Prime Minister Tony Abbott said no specific threat had been made. "This does not mean a terror attack is imminent, we have no specific intelligence of particular plots. What we do have is intelligence that there are people with the intent and capability to mount attacks," Abbott said at a press conference in Canberra on Friday.

A Democratic election year push to amend the Constitution and roll back campaign-spending free speech rights ran out of steam Thursday and fell victim to a Senate filibuster. Holding the vote, even in defeat, was a major political goal for Democrats during the two-week session of Congress. A man jumped the perimeter fence of the White House on Thursday, jangling nerves on the 13th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Witnesses said he was quickly apprehended by two armed Secret Service officers who had scrambled to intercept him. The White House complex, as is standard procedure in such incidents — which are common — was locked down and people were prevented from entering and leaving the grounds. US President Barack Obama was not at home at the time because he was taking part in an event elsewhere in Washington to mark the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." Check your hygiene privilege. Cabbies who smell badly are probably just oppressed folks who came directly from their terrorist training camp to the airport and didn’t have time to change. Body odour is among 52 criteria that officials at San Diego International Airport use to judge taxi drivers. Cabbies say that smacks of prejudice and discrimination. It does discriminate between cabbies who smell like an open sewer and those who don’t. It further prejudges what a good smell is.
