McAuliffe in 2007: ‘We Have Got
To Shut These Borders Down’

Despite repeated requests for comment, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, has so far remained silent on the federal government’s quiet transfer of an unknown number of illegal immigrant children from the Texas border to Prince William County in Virginia last week, a move that was highly criticized by local government officials and Virginia residents, CNSNews.com reported. But McAuliffe has not always been quiet on the issues of illegal immigration and border security. In a 2007 radio interview, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee demanded the federal government “shut the borders down.” “I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or

Nobody reckons that election returns from Hawaii, the land of the lotus-eaters stuck thousands of miles off the California coast in the vast reaches of the Pacific, have much to say about national political trends. You might as well ask the cat. Nevertheless, disappointment and disgust with the established order has reached across the waves. Andrew Romanoff, the Democratic speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives, is running for Congress in a true-blue district Mr. Obama carried not once, but twice. This year Mr. Romanoff is not the usual free-spending Democrat who walks two inches off the ground to keep his

Iran´s parliament has voted to ban permanent forms of contraception, the state news agency IRNA reported, endorsing the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei´s call for more babies to be born. The bill, banning vasectomies and similar procedures in women, is parliament´s response to a decree Khamenei issued in May to increase the population to "strengthen national identity" and counter "undesirable aspects of western lifestyles". Doctors who violate the ban will be punished, the IRNA reported. The bill, approved by 143 of 231 members present in parliament, according to the IRNA, also bans the advertising of birth control in a country where condoms had

He suffers from severe anxiety and digestive disorders, along with extreme allergies and panic attacks. But in his junior year at Drew University in Madison, N.J., Parisi was accused of forcing a fellow student — one who is now a professional athlete — to have sex with him. He was kicked off campus and placed under investigation. Three months went by before he was found "not responsible" in a campus disciplinary proceeding. Local

A former Prince George’s County teacher won a $350,000 jury award after accusing the school system of discriminating against him because he is white. Jon Everhart alleged in his lawsuit against the Prince George’s County school board that a black principal forced him out of his job because of his race. (snip) Everhart said Simpson-Marcus told students that the “only reason a white teacher teaches in P. G. County is that they can’t get a job elsewhere.” He filed a union grievance against her and said she told him that if she ever became principal, he would be the first person she

Something heroic for Obama’s legacy

Unless he can find something and find it quickly, Barack Obama isn’t going to like his legacy. Everything he touches is turning to mud, and the man who once walked on water may soon find himself at the bottom of the lake. He needs something heroic, with swagger and bluff, something to make hearts in the mainstream press go pitty-pat again. Once upon a time, heads of state hemmed in by a faltering economy and outside events they couldn’t control would march their armies off to war. That’s frowned on in polite company today, unless you’re the head caliph of an Islamic

Manufacturing a crisis is what pundits and politicians do best, and the media mills are running three shifts daily now to manufacture panic over what the Democrats want the public to think is the impending impeachment of President Obama. This might frighten the horses and scare the women in flyover country, but it’s all fun and games in Washington, with the game recognized by Democrat and Republican for the scam it is. But the purveyors of the scam are determined to turn a profit with it. Sometimes scams succeed. This could be the opportunity to learn a little about impeachment. John A.

The taking of a life to punish taking a life is an idea whose time is not yet gone, but its years may be numbered. A low-key campaign against capital punishment is flourishing, led this time by lonely conservatives. Many of them are concerned about the inefficiency of state killing, if not the morality of it. Capital punishment has been consistently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, despite the constitutional prohibition of “cruel and unusual punishment.” It’s difficult to see how the killing could be any more cruel or unusual than in a succession of botched executions this year among the

More than 2,500 Ground Zero rescuers and responders have come down with cancer, and a growing number are seeking compensation for their illnesses, The Post has learned. The grim toll has skyrocketed from the 1,140 cancer cases reported last year. In its latest tally, the World Trade Center Health Program at Mount Sinai Hospital counts 1,655 responders with cancer among the 37,000 cops, hard hats, sanitation workers, other city employees and volunteers it monitors, officials told The Post. The tragic sum rises to 2,518 when firefighters and EMTs are added. The FDNY, which has its own WTC health program, said Friday it counts

A federal judge has declared that one of the District’s principal gun control laws is unconstitutional and ordered that its enforcement be halted. The ruling by Judge Frederick J. The order was addressed to the District of Columbia and Police Chief Cathy Lanier, as well as their employees and officers and others “who receive actual notice” of the ruling. But it could not be determined Sunday who had received notice. Also unclear was whether

President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul suffered a potentially crippling blow as a U.S. appeals court ruled the government can’t give financial assistance to anyone buying coverage on the insurance marketplace run by federal authorities. The decision, if it withstands appeals, may deprive more than half the people who signed up for Obamacare the tax credits they need to buy a health plan. The government will immediately seek review of the court’s decision and in the meantime nothing has changed for people getting premium tax credits, Justice Department spokeswoman Emily Pierce said. A White House official said the U.S. will seek a review

That rare respiratory illness sickening children around the country continues to crop up in new places. It has been confirmed in 22 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday, appearing in three states where it had not been previously: Georgia, Michigan and Washington state. These children are facing an uncommon enterovirus strain. While enteroviruses in general are quite common, this particular strain — enterovirus 68 — has not cropped up terribly often since it was first identified in 1962. It can cause severe breathing problems, a particular danger for children who may suffer from asthma or other

CBS is putting its Hillary-inspired drama "Madam Secretary" on Sunday nights next to "The Good Wife." In Friday´s New York Times, TV critic Alessandra Stanley discussed the two shows and slammed Hillary. "Hillary Rodham Clinton is the obvious inspiration, but this is Hillary with a human face," she wrote. During the Cold War, reporters would suggest a kinder, gentler Marxist regime was "communism with a human face." Stanley continued: "Téa Leoni, who has a husky voice and a loose, engaging manner, is an unusually likable beauty. As Elizabeth McCord, she has all the brains and determination of the original and none

Washington - The Secret Service is coming under intense scrutiny after a man who hopped the White House fence made it all the way through the front door before being apprehended. President Barack Obama and his daughters had just departed the White House on Friday evening when an intruder scaled the north fence, darted across the lawn and into the presidential residence, where agents nabbed him. The security breach triggered a rare evacuation of much of the White House, with Secret Service officers drawing their guns as they rushed staffers and journalists out a side door.

Three and a half months have come and gone and the Pentagon has offered no clarity on what happened to alleged Army deserter and Taliban collaborator Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama. Since he traded five imprisoned Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, the US Government Accountability Office has declared the swap illegal, and nearly two dozen House Democrats have joined Republicans in officially condemning the move for making “Americans less safe.”

On Thursday In a session with the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Secretary of State John Kerry was asked by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) whether America was at war in Iraq and Syria. We’re happy to call it that.” So its official: America is at war with the enemy of Islam. However, strange bedfellows arise if the Obama administration so chooses to uphold Kerry’s claim that we are at war with the enemy(s) of Islam. The following displays that Secretary

The French did for President Obama on Friday what they refused to do for his predecessor — they joined the fight in Iraq. Two Rafale fighter planes armed with laser-guided bombs “entirely destroyed” an Islamic State munitions depot and killed dozens of ISIS fighters, making France the first coalition country to make good on its promise to battle the murderous militants. “Other operations will follow in the coming days with the same goal — to weaken this terrorist organization and come to the aid of the Iraqi authorities,” French President Francois Hollande vowed. SALEM, N.H. — Voters have soured on President Obama. National and statewide trends favor Republicans. And here in his new home state, Scott Brown’s truck is gaining speed. Analysts and recent polls have found Brown closing in on US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the Democratic incumbent he is vying to unseat, in a race that has become increasingly nasty and expensive. Once largely dismissed by critics as an unlikely second act in a state he moved to only last year, Brown’s Senate bid is increasingly seen as a plausible path back to the US Capitol. Observers see a race that may be largely determined
