Spanking the Elites
American Thinker, by J.R. Dunn

I’m the editor here at AT who handled M Catherine Evans’ “Americans Protest Illegals as High-Profile Conservatives Pander,” the piece that opened the second – or maybe third – front in the conservative civil war this Monday. That submission came in relatively late on Sunday. Monday’s article schedule was already set. But I put it up anyway, shifting another piece to do it. I made sure it went in for Monday even though, for technical reasons, I had to reenter it twice into the publishing system. I made sure it went in because of what it says about the nature of conservatism

George Zimmerman not expected to face
civil rights charges in Trayvon Martin death

The Justice Department is not expected to bring civil rights charges against George Zimmerman in the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, according to three law enforcement officials, despite allegations that the killing was racially motivated. The federal investigation of Zimmerman was opened two years ago by the department’s civil rights division, but officials said there is insufficient evidence to bring federal charges. The investigation technically remains open, but it is all but certain the department will close it. Investigators still want to “dot their i’s and cross their t’s,” said one official, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity

Nancy Pelosi Chides Reporter

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took issue with the term “illegal aliens” during a Wednesday press conference. Reacting to a question from a reporter about whether President Obama’s planned executive actions should also deal with Iraqis living illegally in the United States, Pelosi corrected the reporter who used the term “illegal aliens.” “Are you referring to undocumented people who are in the United States?” Pelosi questioned. “Illegal aliens, yes ma’am,” the reporter responded. “Undocumented people, OK,” Pelosi said again. Advocates have pushed back in recent years against the term “illegal alien,” despite its common use in law enforcement — particularly by immigration enforcement agencies like

We’re sixty-three days out from the midterm elections, and by all appearances they will go well for the Republicans. Gains in the House and Senate are likely, with the majority in the Senate within reach. Pick-ups are likely at the state level as well—just as important, but frequently overlooked. So you can be relatively sure that on the night of November 4, there will a ton of backslapping and plenty of folks walking around with that winning glow. Here’s the problem: Winning will give the Republican Party a new, and false, sense of confidence, which could mask the significant deficiencies that

A read-it-to-believe-it column in the Huffington Post is demanding that each American do more to stop the looming threat of the Islamic State-- by recycling. Arguing a direct correlation between droughts in Syria and the rise of Islamist extremism, the authors blame climate change for the terrorist group´s advance in the Middle East. With a title like "How Climate Change Helped ISIS," one would expect the article to be two words long: "it didn´t." Instead, authors Charles B. Strozier and Kelly A. Berkell argue that a wave of droughts in Syria beginning in 2006 made the nation a fertile ground for

William Shakespeare knew a thing or two about human psychology. But he also understood a great deal about the body-politic and how small signs can be indicative of deeper traumas. So when Marcellus tells Horatio at the beginning of Hamlet that you can almost smell the weakness permeating Denmark, it’s Shakespeare’s way of telling us to pay attention to what sticks out as abnormal and to ask what else it may portend. It was difficult not to be reminded of this advice when reading that a majority of Germany’s Ethics Council recently called for the abolition of legal constraints upon incest.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest rebuffed questions Oct. 1 about a possible federal ban on travel from Ebola-stricken countries, and said the president will rely instead on government medical professionals to contain imported epidemics. “These are the experts, they have a keen understanding of how to prevent the spread of this disease,” he said, adding “we can stop the spread of Ebola in its tracks.” “What are the conditions under which the President would order or want to see travel restrictions?” asked one reporter. “We are confident that the sophisticated medical infrastructure that exists here in the United States can prevent the wide

But the stats don’t account for how many people are already currently in the United States, Neil Munro of the Daily Caller reports. Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies commented on the government statistics. My last article for American Thinker was too long. And too short. Too long because the gurus tell us articles should be about 600 words. My story about the president talking to the black caucus about white people inflicting constant racial injustice on black people came in at 1500 words. I was just getting warmed up. I thought it strange that at the same time the president was trying to persuade us that black people are relentless victims, black people were committing acts of racial violence in places like Seattle, Miami, Indianapolis, Bronx, Ferguson, Kansas City, Providence, Minneapolis and 18 miles from where

A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report reveals that President Barack Obama has attended only 42.1% of his daily intelligence briefings (known officially as the Presidential Daily Brief, or PDB) in the 2,079 days of his presidency through September 29, 2014. The GAI report also included a breakdown of Obama’s PDB attendance record between terms; he attended 42.4% of his PDBs in his first term and 41.3% in his second. The GAI’s alarming findings come on the heels of Obama’s 60 Minutes comments on Sunday, wherein the president laid the blame for the Islamic State’s (ISIS) rapid rise squarely at

President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. And that is right and proper. Because not only was his excuse of blaming us a lie, but when questioned on his lie, White House press secretary Josh Earnest doubled down with a whole new lie — both of which are easily, publicly proven false. On Sunday, Obama said the intelligence community had underestimated the rise of ISIS, saying in an interview

Former President Jimmy Carter claimed Wednesday that he would have been re-elected and beaten Ronald Reagan in 1980 if had been more “manly” in his dealings with Iran. Interviewed by the show "CNBC Meets," Carter repeated his belief that the failed mission to free American hostages held in Tehran killed his chances, but then added that had he gone to war, America would have rewarded him with a second term in 1980.

The Obama administration found itself scrambling on Tuesday to defend President Barack Obama for his lackluster 42% attendance record on daily intelligence briefings, a finding from a new report issued by the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). When asked about the GAI revelation on Fox News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki appeared flustered and unprepared. "Well, I have no validation of those statistics," said Psaki. "There are a range of ways that you can get your intelligence briefings on the road, in the White House, and I know that he receives those whenever he can."

Kansas Tea Party supporters are threatening to sit out the state’s pivotal Senate election, potentially dealing another blow to the reelection hopes of Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.). Sacramento, Calif. - Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed legislation imposing the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags, driven to action by a buildup of litter and damage to aquatic ecosystems. A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015. Under SB270, plastic bags will be phased out of large grocery stores starting next summer and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The law allows grocers to charge a fee of at least 10 cents for using paper bags. State Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Los Angeles,

President Obama this week committed professional suicide. Let me explain. There is a theory in politics that once a leader has fired 50 or more people from his or her administration, he or she is finished. The reason being that by creating so many enemies ‘outside the tent’, the tent itself becomes too deluged with poisonous bile to avoid sinking into a quagmire of back-stabbing ignominy. Obama went a lot further than firing 50 people. He managed to single-handedly alienate 200,000 employees in the American intelligence agencies by going on 60 Minutes and ruthlessly chucking them all under a bus

Count House Speaker John Boehner as a fan of Jeb Bush for president. He also hasn´t spoken to Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in two years. The driving issue of the 2016 election will be “competence,” and if former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush runs, “he’s got a real shot” at winning, the Ohio Republican told the Cincinnati Enquirer on Tuesday. Boehner applauded Bush’s ability to “talk about Republican issues better than most anybody that we’ve got out there,” approving of his “real record of reform” as Florida’s governor from 1999 to 2007.
