What Should a ‘Do Something’ Congress Do?
The Federalist, by David Corbin & Matt Parks

Original Article

President Barack Obama announced last week that his “big motto” for the United States Congress is “do something.” After winning the presidency with some other “big” slogans, all the president is asking the Congress to do six years later is to “hope” again.(Snip)Congressional Republicans would do well to remind voters of the dangers of a Democratic Congressional majority and avoid all temptations to formulate a me-too Progressive-lite agenda for the fall campaign. But they’ll need to do more in order to stop, much less reverse, the advance of the Progressive leviathan. A good example of what this type of action looks

I really like Senator Mike Lee. He´s quiet and no spotlight-grabber, but he´s a thinker and a planner.

I have a question.

If the president can veto legislation passed by Congress, why can´t congress veto Executive Orders?

@#1: Congress can veto an EO by a 2/3 majority in both chambers.

Good luck getting that past Harry Reid.

In theory we have three co-equal branches of government, however we see one branch is more equal than the others, and another branch is so weak it has to plead with the third for relief.

Harry Reid is the reason congress cannot do anything. Reid blocks any bill passed by the House. We need a change in the Senate that puts Harry on the bench. The country depends on it.

"What Should a ‘Do Something’ Congress Do?"

For starters, they can uphold their oath to the American People and the Constitution, instead of looking out for themselves and getting more votes from ´anywhere´

No one campaigns saying they will only look out for voters in their own Party.

They should have started with that five trillion dollars that obama turned into smoke and impeached him for even attempting such a robbery. The banks, Solyndra, GM, the stimulus that didn´t stimulate anybody except Chrissy Matthews... get our money back.

They should be screaming for the truth on Benghazi, Fast & Furious, who blew up the BP oil well, the hideous green & orange signs that advertised shovel ready jobs that weren´t shovel ready, the multiple crimes of obamacare, the crooked IRS, no budget increases to prevent a shutdown, the disarming of the American military, the monetary and weapons support of various middle eastern terrorist groups.

Given a little time, I could complete the whole horrible list of what they should have done.

With its present membership the Congress will only enact what Democrats want or noting at all.

That´s the choice. Please the Democrats or not.

Only the House committees manage to function by conducting hearings. Or by at least trying to, the Democrats often frustrate those too.

PRETORIA, South Africa — It is one year and seven months since Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead -- six months since her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius, went on trial accused of murdering her. In a few days´ time, the question at the heart of this case -- whether he knew that it was his girlfriend behind his bathroom door or whether he truly believed he was firing at an intruder -- will be answered. Of course, there is only one man who really knows what happened on Valentine´s Day morning last year. But there is only one woman whose opinion counts:

While Barack Obama spends so much of his time on golf courses, some 14 million Americans are the ones who want to take a Mulligan. Extrapolating from Obama’s record-low approval rating of 38 percent (via Gallup last week), compared with his 51 percent share of the vote in the 2012 election (he received nearly 66 million votes), that’s how many Americans actually pulled the lever for Obama but now think he’s doing a lousy job. Americans would need to take a Clintonian number of policy Mulligans just to start putting the world and our country back in order. And since the real

It is hard to argue with President Obama´s political calculation that now is not the right time for him to stretch his executive powers and dictate sweeping changes in the nation´s immigration system to include a form of amnesty for millions in the country illegally. Without doubt, that is good news for embattled Democratic senators running for reelection. And, almost certainly, he is correct that whatever he does is "more sustainable" if it is supported by the public. But the fact that he is right on that point makes it even easier to fault him for what has been a clumsy

JERUSALEM—It was the most brazen terror attack Europe had seen since the Second World War—eight Palestinian gunmen slipping at night into the Israeli athletes’ pavilion at the Munich Olympics, shooting two wrestlers who tried to block their way, and taking nine other athletes hostage. In what was ostensibly the first stage of a prisoner exchange involving more than 200 prisoners held by Israel, the Israelis and their captors were helicoptered by German police to a nearby military airfield where they were to board a waiting Lufthansa plane. However, German security forces were waiting in ambush at the airfield that night, 42 years

In fact, Tahmooressi’s ordeal might just confirm many of our worst fears about the Obama administration. The Tahmooressi story sounds more like a schlocky Hollywood script than a real-life tale. WASHINGTON — Republicans and Democrats are struggling for control of the Senate in this November’s midterm elections. But there is no real fight for control of the House of Representatives. The Republicans are all but assured of retaining control of the House, despite last fall’s unpopular government shutdown and the party’s dismal ratings. “The Republican hold on the House is the graveyard of the hopes of Democratic policy change,” says Neera Tanden, president of the liberal-leaning Center for American Progress. It has stifled not just President Obama’s agenda, but also the aspirations of his coalition of young, secular and nonwhite voters, who

Obama may say “we don’t have a strategy yet” for beating ISIS. Growing American operations on the ground paint a different picture—one with Iranian hues. The President hasn’t announced his strategy for dealing with ISIS yet, but there is a clear military approach taking shape in Iraq. On an operational level, the military intervention has shown some early success in using U.S. airpower to support local ground forces and halt ISIS’s advances. But the tension between tactics and strategy, methods and goals, is already starting to show. The battle we won yesterday could make it harder to win a war tomorrow. And
