Iraq Crisis: ISIS Torches 1,800-Year-Old
Church after Banishing Mosul Christians

International Business Times, by Johnlee Varghese

Original Article

Posted By:Scottyboy, 7/21/2014 12:11:24 PM

The ISIS deadline for Christians to leave Mosul ended at the weekend, and thousands of people who follow the religion have left the city. And as the last group of Christians made their way out, the militants torched the 1,800-year-old Assyrian Christian church. According to Al Arabiya, the church was burned down on Saturday, after the remaining Christians fled. It noted that the burning of the church was the latest event in the destruction of Christian property in Mosul.

I wonder if the Pope will comment on this like he did on America´s responsibility to take in and care for all of these illegals.

I don´t see him opening the doors of the Vatican to help.

They burn, rape, and pillage churches and their members because ISIS is scared senseless of the Lord God Almighty, and with good reason. We won´t live to see their comeuppance, but it is a worthy contemplation.

While Obama is increasingly derided at home, internationally homage is still paid to him.

Examples include the trashing of Christianity in Iraq, the Mexican´s Obama Express, keeping non-Democrat Marines in jail forever etc.

Well that will help ISIS as that is one of the things they want to destroy. Know your enemy.

If Mecca fell into the center of the earth today I would not give a whit. But do not act like Mecca´s destruction will hurt ISIS´s feelings.

Senate Republicans are preparing an agenda for their first 100 days in power next year in case they win majority control of the upper chamber, The Hill reported. The agenda includes authorizing the long-delayed Keystone XL oil pipeline, approving “fast-track” trade authority, rolling back new Environmental Protection Agency regulations and repealing Obamacare’s unpopular tax on medical devices. Republican senators insisted they were not “measuring the drapes” in anticipation of a wave election sweeping them into power after years in the minority. “We will have to be prepared if we are in a position to govern,” Sen. It was right after “Hillarycare,” the health reform plan championed by Clinton’s wife, went down in flames. (snip) Not so, the senator says. “If I run, I would like to win. OKLAHOMA CITY — A GOP state legislator and the chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party are standing behind anti-Muslim remarks the lawmaker posted to his Facebook page, and both said Thursday they have no plans to apologize. Leaders with several civil rights organizations have called for state Rep. John Bennett, R-Sallisaw, to apologize after he posted a comment to his Facebook page urging people, especially Christians, to “be wary of the individuals who claim to be Muslim-American.” Bennett also said in his post that the Islamic holy book, the Quran, calls for the killing of non-Muslims. Michelle Obama hasn’t given any indication that she’ll run for political office, but Sen. Mark Kirk is suggesting otherwise. The Illinois Republican sent a fund-raising letter to supporters referring to the “press and rumor mills” that Obama may run for Kirk’s Senate seat in 2016. The letter was first reported by the Chicago-Sun Times and confirmed by Kirk’s office. Kirk even compares Obama’s potential run to speculation in 1999 over whether then-First Lady Hillary Clinton would run for the Senate. She eventually did. So is Kirk looking for supporters to connect the dots?

Here is a multiple-choice question. See if you can get it right. Asking for advice from Dick Cheney on foreign policy is as sensible as: A. Getting advice from Anthony Weiner on appropriate texting B. Asking Ted Cruz for counsel on the virtues of silence C. Expecting Vladimir Putin to say he’s sorry D. All of the above OK, the answer—(D)—is pretty obvious. Maybe too obvious. Maybe this subject is so plainly straw-mannish that it’s not even worth writing about. That’s a terrifying prospect. We should be learning from our past mistakes, not repeating them,” Reid, D-Nev., said on the Senate floor Wednesday. “They’ve got to be really careful with advice they take from Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney is more responsible than anyone else for the worst foreign policy decision in the history of the country -- the invasion of Iraq,” Reid said.

Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic."
