The World’s Second-Richest Man Thinks
You Should Work Only 3 Days a Week

Time Magazine, by Sam Frizell

Carlos Slim, the world’s second-richest man finally said the one thing we’ve all been waiting for a self-made billionaire to say: work less. Way less. At a business conference in Paraguay, the telecommunications magnate said it was time for a “radical overhaul” in the way people work, the Financial Times reports: people should only work three days a week. “With three work days a week, we would have more time to relax; for quality of life,” Slim said. “Having four days [off] would be very important to generate new entertainment activities and other ways of being occupied.” Well-said, Mr. Slim. Well-said.

Mr. Slim, if you will pay off my house, I could get by on working 2 days a week. Please contact me at your convenience. BTW, the payoff on my mortgage would equate to about $10 to someone of your means.
Sincerely,
Franq

Carlos Slim is a main beneficiary of the Obamaphone program, which was launched under the Compassionate Conservative. And, thanks to big-government policies that put money in the pockets of people like Carlos Slim, people do work 3 days per week: 3 at their first job, and maybe 2 or 3 at their second job, if they´re lucky enough to have one. Embrace the new peasantry, say the socialists.

Carlos Slim owns the NY Times. He can afford to pay everyone at the Times 3 days a week for a full weeks work.

So why doesn´t he?

In 2012 the Carlos Slim´s NY Times forced pension cuts on their union workers:

"For an employee whose salary is $100,000, that means $2,900 a year less. And there’s a big but with that. That cut applies only if the Guild’s novel retirement plan is approved by the IRS sometime in the next year. If it’s not approved, our retirement benefit will be cut to 3% of wages in a 401k plan. So we have a definite cut of $2,900, and a worst but not implausible case in which the retirement contributions are cut by $6,500 a year."

Actually, most people in undeveloped countries DO work 3 days a week or less, which is why their countries REMAIN UNDEVELOPED and they remain dirt poor.

As usual, spoken like a man who has entire staffs of people on call 24/7 to satisfy their every whim, and God help them if the Bentley isn´t ready on time. Extreme wealth makes some people stupid. Or maybe they were stupid to begin with, but were in the right place at the right time, fell into a barrel of money, and because they are now wealthy some people think they should now listen to them.

Years ago there was a union factory worker in Detroit who never came in to work on Fridays (but, of course, he could never be fired). When asked why he didn´t just take off Thursdays, too, he replied, "Because I can´t support my family on three days´ pay".

Double talk. Fewer work hours which means less pay, and he makes more. The work still needs to get done which will mean lots of unpaid overtime. Lots of corporations already do this, and if they are really cheap, they outsource. The results are short term profits, and long term the failure of the company. Is Carlos Slim a looter?

Well, I work 3 days a week to support MY family then work 2 more days to support everyone else´s (actually It´s closer to half and half).
You pay my taxes and I might be able to get by on 3 days. Until then, I have few choices.

Federal prosecutors alleged Monday in federal court that a man who jumped a fence and ran into the White House’s unlocked front door Friday night posed a threat to President Obama and was keeping 800 rounds of ammunition, two hatchets and a machete in his car, parked blocks away. Omar Jose Gonzalez, 42, formerly of Copperas Cove, Tex., appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola of the District on one charge of unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds while carrying a deadly or dangerous weapon. After a 15-minute hearing, Facciola ordered Gonzalez held until Oct. 1, pending revocation of bond

Ralph Weems IV, who was injured early Saturday, was in fair condition Sunday at North Mississippi Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Genie Causey said without elaborating. A relative, Bradley Barnes of Madison, told The Associated Press by telephone on Sunday that his brother-in-law was in a medically induced coma following brain surgery.

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday criticized comments US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made earlier this month, in a speech that critics have said was unnecessarily confrontational toward a Middle Eastern Christian group. (snip) Cruz earned the ire of many conservatives for his speech to a group called "In Defense of Christians." During those remarks, Cruz made a point to say he would not support groups in the Middle East who are not pro-Israel.  He walked off the stage to a chorus of boos after eventually telling the crowd he wouldn´t "stand with" them if they did not "stand

Although 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue may be the most famous address in the country, that doesn’t mean everyone remembers it. At the Value Voters Summit today in Washington, D.C, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was the Republican nominee for vice president in 2008, mistakenly referred to the White House as being located at “1400 Pennsylvania Avenue.” “Don’t retreat. You reload with truth, which I know is an endangered species at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue, anyway truth,” Palin said. “The media’s favorite president. He just can’t stop telling lies.” It doesn’t appear that a 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue NW actually exists–but the closest

Even though Republicans may take back the Senate by running against amnesty, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush pushed amnesty legislation while stumping for North Carolina Republican Senate candidate Thom Tillis on Wednesday. Bush, according to the New York Times, reportedly said that comprehensive immigration reform "will restore and sustain economic growth for this country." And even though a recent Gallup poll found that illegal immigration is now the top concern among Republicans, Bush said that if immigration reform is "framed in that way, I don’t think there’s a big debate in the Republican Party about the need to do this."

Attorney General Eric Holder´s abrupt announcement that he intends to leave the Obama administration as soon as the president is able to find someone to take over for him was initiated by his doctor wife´s concerns about his health, a news report revealed on Thursday. Holder was rushed in an ambulance to a Washington, D.C. hospital in February after feeling faint and having a shortness of breath. [Snip] Politico Magazine reported on Thursday that ´under pressure´ from his wife, Sharon Malone, an obstetrician and gynecologist, Holder decided to make the jump now before Republicans potentially take over the Senate in

Of all the malfeasances of William Jefferson Clinton the one that would have most justified a removal from office was not the Monica hijinks, even with the attendant lying under oath and absurd parsings of the word “is,” but the pardoning of Marc Rich — the billionaire international commodities trader and mammoth contributor to, er, Clinton. Luckily for Bill, this action occurred on the last day of his presidency, making anything like impeachment moot, even though it was an example of political corruption that would have made Boss Tweed envious. For those who don’t recall the details, here’s Wikipedia: In 1983

With the mid-term elections weeks away, many conservatives are confronting a difficult choice. Assuming there are no solid conservatives on the ballot, do we vote for establishment candidates? Or not vote at all? The reasons why some conservatives are on the fence or planning not to vote are well known. (And Democrats are loving every minute of it!) “Establishment Republicans have attacked us and I refuse to support any of them.” “I’m sick of RINO’s. They’re no better than the Democrats.” “Other than a few strong conservatives, the rest of the GOP stands for nothing.” I share these frustrations. The conversation in my head goes something

We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

If I were a scientist, I´d stick to the Goldman Sachs principle: bet on both sides. "Believe in science, believe in God" seems to cover all the possibilities and gives you the best chance for a cheery afterlife. For a time, it was thought that astrophysicist Stephen Hawking had also left a tiny gap in his credo window for a magical deity. However, he has now come out and declared that there is no God. But there’s a big catch: To win Wolf’s endorsement, Orman must first agree to caucus with the Senate GOP if he were to defeat Roberts in the general election. The two men were scheduled to meet Friday afternoon at Orman’s house in Olathe, Kansas., just outside of Kansas City, according to two people familiar with the matter.
