Unfathomable billions in government waste
Washington Times, by Akash Chougule

Earlier this month, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) testified before Congress that federal agencies made more than $100 billion in improper payments last year. To put that number in perspective, $100 billion is more than the combined total budgets of the Coast Guard, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, Border Patrol, Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency — a lot more. The GAO report is the latest example of why Washington must get serious about eliminating waste, fraud and abuse, and enacting sweeping reforms and spending cuts before any more damage is inflicted on American taxpayers. Improper payments result when

We need to force our out-of-control Congress to follow the 8 items in our constitution they are allowed to regulate. If it is not clearly defined (such as the commerce clause) we should restrict them to the intent of our Founders.

Sequestration mandated 50% cuts to both the military and civilian sides.

How come only the military is being cut? There has not been one single word or screech coming from the libtard side about the civilian side cuts. Is this because none of it is happening?

I used to have to do my shop budget in the military. The first time I had to ask my supervisor how to do it. He said to guess how much I would need. Then double it. Then I submit it to him and he doubles it again. Then he submits it up the chain where it is doubled again. Someone near the top says this is ridiculous and cuts it in half.
At the end of the fiscal year they get in a panic if any isn´t spent. They say to get rid of it all by midnight. Nothing will be refused.
Then it starts all over again.

There´s so much more than this and nothing will ever get done about it. Senator Coburn has done a great of exposing the huge number of duplicative programs in our government. Streamlining would save tens of billions every year. No one cares. McCain when he first went to the Senate would expose the waste and fraud in the defense bill. No one cared. People have been talking about waste, fraud and abuse in the system all my life and the only thing we´ve gotten is Al Gore´s reinventing government. We need to get rid of most of the federal govt.

The Obama administration has done nothing to address fraud and abuse, has started Obamacare to double fraudulent payments. And the IRS can´t manage their emails, much less their refunds, paid to anyone that can steal a social security number. Then the DC bureaucrats have awarded themselves bonuses, generous vacations, early retirements, and no work jobs for themselves and all their relatives, and extended families, here and abroad.

How perfectly Clintonian: “While a crowd of several thousand Democrats waited on a sloping, grassy field below, Mrs Clinton, her husband and Senator Harkin staged a mini-grilling of steaks for the press at a single barbecue grill in a fenced-off enclosure, framed by a handsome tree and a picnic table filled with some patient Iowans. Mrs Clinton gamely posed, pretending to grill a steak that had been pre-cooked for her.” Remember all those relentless media references to George W. Mike Huckabee is leading the Republican presidential race in Iowa. And not by just a point or two: in a new CNN survey, the former Arkansas governor, winner of the 2008 Iowa caucuses, is at 21 percent, with his closest GOP pursuer, Rep. Paul Ryan, nine points behind. Rand Paul is 14 points back, Chris Christie and Jeb Bush 15 behind. Few frontrunners choose not to run. And when Huckabee, not yet a candidate and officially undecided, invited a group of reporters to meet with him at a hotel outside Washington Monday, he certainly looked like a man preparing to

When Senator Ted Cruz delivered the keynote address at last Wednesday’s inaugural In Defense of Christians Summit in Washington, D.C., he was expected to place a much-needed spotlight on the plight of the ancient and persecuted Christian communities of the Middle East. Instead, under the guise of supporting Israel, Cruz placed the spotlight squarely on himself, and by so doing inflicted untold damage to the cause of Christianity’s survival in the Middle East. There’s been some misinformation about exactly what Cruz said to the crowd and how it was received. (You can see for yourself here.) First Cruz offered a few strong remarks

WASHINGTON — In his first year in office, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. put new limits on when the government could dismiss lawsuits in the name of protecting national security. Now, in what he has said is likely his final year, Mr. Holder has claimed broad authority to do just that in a case unlike any other. The Justice Department intervened late Friday in a defamation lawsuit against United Against Nuclear Iran, a prominent advocacy group that pushes for tough sanctions against Tehran. The government said the case should be dropped because forcing the group to open its files would

It’s Monday and Rush Limbaugh is talking about what constitutes consensual sex between college students. The conservative radio host kicked off the week with a look at Ohio State’s new policy on consent, lamenting the fact that it “takes all the romance out of everything.” “Seduction used to be an art,” Limbaugh explained to his listeners. “Now of course it’s brutish and it’s predatory and it’s bad.” After reading off Ohio State’s definition of consent, in which students must “agree on why” they are having sex and must be sober when they do it, Limbaugh arrived at this line: “The

Any question whether Sen. Tom Harkin’s annual steak fry Sunday was really just a Hillary Clinton campaign event in disguise could be dismissed by a look at its logistical priorities: The event had a surfeit of “Ready for Hillary” buttons, T-shirts, and bumper stickers, and there were not enough toilets. Tom Harkin’s final annual Steak Fry, a must-attend event in the state for Democratic presidential hopefuls for 37 years. But Hillary arrived in Iowa knowing she needed to eat a lot more crow than steak. As the 2014 midterm election campaign heats up, all indications are that Democrats are headed for a trouncing at the hands of Republicans. Most political prognosticators now give the GOP a better-than-even chance of picking up the six seats it needs to win control of the Senate, and the party is expected to expand its majority in the House. The Republican gains may not match those of the Tea Party wave of 2010 that cost Democrats the House and their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, but it likely will be enough to make President Obama´s final two years in office even more

President Obama’s call on Wednesday for the United States to lead an international military campaign in the Middle East has the potential to begin a departure from the isolationism that he and former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton have advocated during their years in office. There is a risk, however, that the president’s focus on a counterterrorism campaign akin to those waged in Yemen and Somalia, and his reliance on regional partners to deal with the challenge posed by the Islamic State, could lead to the continuation of what has been the most disengaged presidential foreign policy in modern American history.

How did a man who made it into the elite SEALs and lived lavishly while running his own money-lending firm end up homeless near an offramp? It may have been the $1 million he stole. Navy SEALs divide their own into two groups. As they see it, there are the good mugs you can count on, and then there are the 10 percenters, the minority who slip through the screening process and bring disgrace on everyone else. Jason Mullaney might have started off in the first category, but after conning 11 fellow SEALs out of more than $1 million, he’s decidedly in the second. We should resist the temptation, though, because there is a dangerous purpose behind the laughable assertion. In bad midterm-election years, members of a president´s party often find the political climate challenging. In some ways, it is like a swimmer encountering riptides or facing strong undertows. The degree of the danger varies from location to location, and in many cases, weak swimmers struggle in this environment; occasionally, even an Olympic-level swimmer perishes. In 2010—President Obama´s first midterm election—Democratic congressional candidates struggled mightily. The party suffered a net loss of six Senate seats and 63 seats in the House. That was the worst loss for either party in any election since 1948, and the largest loss in a

Is a mutiny happening around President Obama? It appears possible that the president may not have made two of his most recent decisions with complete free will. The announcement that he would delay his immigration initiative until after the election and his formal announcement that the United States would take military action against the Islamic State could have been coerced. Maybe Democratic leaders in Congress and a few members of the Obama team have had it. Could it be that, after President Obama briefed Democrats in Congress on the immigration plan, they balked?
