Pet dogs and birds were among the casualties when flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine, a list of the aircraft´s cargo has revealed. Two pet dogs, four pigeons and five other live birds were being transported in the cargo of the Malaysian Airlines flight as it was blasted out of the sky killing all 298 passengers - including ten Britons. A list of items checked into the cargo hold of the Boeing 777 has also revealed that nearly 1,400kg of lithium batteries, ´urgent´ Malaysian diplomatic papers and medical packages were on board. Just the Brits trying to stir up a bit of outrage amongst the British old biddy class.
If the 777 was carrying some real disgusting animals, it will get the BBC brigade very unhappy.

Weren´t batteries on the flight on the Malaysian that went missing too? I recall reading that somewhere. I have no doubt that Russian sympathizers shot down this plane but the fact of the matter is that we all are getting on planes carrying more than just us and our luggage.

A senior Obama administration official is cited in a White House press release as saying “Saudi Arabia has an extensive border with Syria,” while speaking with a group of journalists and National Security Council Spokesperson Caitlin Hayden. The conference call, which was meant to provide background information on President Obama’s Wednesday night address to the nation, involved Hayden and another unnamed Obama administration official who made the following statement: ISIL has been I think a galvanizing threat around the Sunni partners in the region. They view it as an existential threat to them. Saudi Arabia has an extensive border with

UPPERVILLE, Va. — Few people have ever visited Oak Spring Farms, the grand home here of Rachel Lambert Mellon, better known as Bunny. If they had, they would have seen a Pissarro, unframed like a flea market find, above the living room fireplace. Upstairs, a still life by van Gogh hung above her bathtub. Antique porcelains — cabbages, asparagus, artichokes — were artfully arranged on practically every surface. Mrs. Mellon was the matriarch of an American dynasty whose fortune and art holdings rivaled that of the Fricks, Carnegies and Morgans. But perhaps most notably, she was a passionate collector of

The ideology which Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) is trying to spread through the Middle East is a “dangerous … offensive … insulting distortion of Islam,” Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday. Speaking in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where he garnered pledges of support from ten Arab nations for a campaign against the jihadist group, Kerry again underscored the administration’s determination to dissociate ISIS from the religion it claims to be inspired by and to be serving. He said Arab nations play “the leading role, really” in a multifaceted coalition whose tasks range from military support to

When the controversy surrounding Senator Mary Landrieu´s (D-LA) use of taxpayer funds to pay for campaign travel first broke back in August, her Senate office spokesperson Matthew Lehner promised Landrieu would produce a full report of her travel activities "by the time" the Senate returned from its August recess and returned to session in September. By Thursday, the fourth day since the Senate´s September session began, Landrieu has produced diddly squat. Efforts to contact Lehner, who made that promise on her behalf, resulted in an automatic email saying that, as of September 2, he no longer worked in her congressional office.

I could have sworn we were going to war against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).But the president, a well-known theologian, has informed us that despite what the Muslims of ISIS say, the Islamic State “is not Islamic.” So I guess we’re in a war against SIS — the State of Iraq and Syria. But it still is a war, isn’t it, Mr. Secretary Kerry?“I think that’s the wrong terminology,” he sniffed yesterday. “What we are engaging in is a very significant counterterrorism operation.” Does that make it … a police action? There’s growing outrage that a possible act of jihad in the United States is being ignored. 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin was shot to death in New Jersey in late June. Authorities later charged Ali Muhammad Brown with murder. After his arrest, Brown said his motive was revenge for U.S. actions in the Middle East. This led to New York-area radio host Todd Pettengill sounding off on what he sees as an act of domestic terrorism. “If there was ever a reason to riot in the streets in the name of humanity, it would be for this case. There is not a person in this country who hasn’t time and again replayed the horrible visions of September 11, 2001 in their mind. As I’ve re-counted what I witnessed, it was the willingness of American citizens to commit selfless acts of courage to help each other in the face of astronomical odds that stands out most. That morning, one like any other, I was at my desk inside the National Military Command Center, in the Pentagon, when I heard about the first World Trade Center tower. Berlin - President Obama´s declaration of war against the terrorist group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria marks a decisive break in the American constitutional tradition. Nothing attempted by his predecessor, George W. Bush, remotely compares in imperial hubris. Mr. Bush gained explicit congressional consent for his invasions (Snip) Mr. Obama may rightly be frustrated by gridlock in Washington, but his assault on the rule of law is a devastating setback for our constitutional order. His refusal even to ask the Justice Department to provide a formal legal pretext for the war on ISIS is astonishing.

As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan. For starters, the president doesn’t believe the Islamic State is a current threat to the U.S.: “So ISIL poses a threat to the people of Iraq

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic."
