Russian government edits
Wikipedia on flight MH17

Telegraph [UK], by Matthew Sparkes

A political battle has broken out on Wikipedia over an entry relating to the crash of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, with the Russian government reportedly removing sections which accuse it of providing "terrorists" with missiles that were used to down the civilian airliner. A Twitter bot which monitors edits made to the online encyclopaedia from Russian government IP addresses (unique numbers relating to certain computers or networks) has spotted that changes are being made to a page relating to the crash. It appears that an internet user from within the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) changed a

Comments:
I use Wikipedia as a reference to get general idea on some items in the news unclear as to person or organization when posting. The same is true of Google Maps, like where this plane (MH17) was shot down & world clock to know time article updated or posted. But, as seen in this article, "anyone" can gain control of "historical" facts and "fudge" them to say what they want. Buyer, beware. Oh, by looking at map, realized that Putin is taking more land than just his stated Crimea, which we are required by treaty (Ukraine) to protect.

I can´t view the full article because I don´t want to sign up. But that said...

It can be very difficult to gain access to edit Wikipedia articles these days. I haven´t tried in several years and I don´t know what the rules are today, but they tightened it up a whole bunch a while back.

Nonetheless, that doesn´t prevent someone who really wants to gain access from doing so, and they can make edits at will. The edits may get undone (I had some of my contributions to Maxine Waters´ page removed, even though they were 100% factual).

The history of the edits is available for all to see:

The Ray Rice suspension became such a big story on Monday it even sparked reaction from the White House. The news of Rice being cut by the Ravens and then indefinitely suspended by the NFL after video surfaced of the running back hitting his then-girlfriend broke during a daily press briefing in Washington. At the time White House spokesman Josh Earnest responded in a general way to domestic violence but had not had a chance to speak with President Obama about the specific incident. Later Monday, the White House released a statement attributed to Earnest: "The President is the father of two daughters.

What’s in a name? It turns out, a lot, according to a video posted by Buzzfeed by a man named José Zamora. He was searching for a job online and had sent in dozens of applications and resumes, without yielding any interviews. So he decided to try a little experiment by dropping the “s” and the accent mark from his name, becoming just “Joe.” The résumés and application information he sent as Joe were identical, except for the name. As the video explains, he almost immediately started getting responses from potential employers. We don’t know much else about José Zamora than what this video tells, but it does raise a lot of

Condoleezza Rice made a startling admission to the New York Times in 2002. The then-national security adviser to President George W. Bush said it was “absolutely right” that she wanted to be commissioner of the National Football League. This was no joke. Rice was serious, but she wanted it to be known that she wouldn’t want to do it “before Paul Tagliabue is ready to step down.” Well, Tagliabue is long gone and his successor Roger Goodell has made a mess of it. Time for the former secretary of state with an intense love of the game to step in and save the NFL. We’d all seen the chilling video back in February of Baltimore

In a fascinating interview with Charlie Rose, David Brooks–who is now teaching moral philosophy at Yale–spoke, among many other topics, about Viktor Frankl, the Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor. Dr. Frankl, in his book Man’s Search for Meaning, deals with the fact that he was living a life he didn’t plan for. Living in a concentration camp obviously isn’t what he hoped for. The crucial question became not what Frankl wanted out of life; it was what he would do with the hand he had been dealt. Dr. Frankl decided, “Suffering became a problem upon which I did not want to turn my back.”

Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush unveiled a new leadership training program in Washington today. Clinton said the initiative will encourage Americans to “have vigorous debate, serious disagreements, knock-down, drag-out fights, and somehow come to ultimately a resolution that enables the country to keep moving forward.” “We want people from all walks of life and different political persuasions,” Bush said. “We want people who have shown the capacity to succeed. People who work hard, and who work with others in a good way.” The six-month training program, which will begin in February 2015,

As the moon wheels around Earth every 28 days and shows us a progressively greater and then stingier slice of its sun-lightened face, the distance between moon and Earth changes, too. At the nearest point along its egg-shaped orbit, its perigee, the moon may be 26,000 miles closer to us than it is at its far point. And should the moon happen to hit its ever-shifting orbital perigee at the same time that it lies athwart from the sun, we are treated to a so-called supermoon, a full moon that can seem close enough to embrace — as much as 12 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than the average full moon.

Washington - The Obama administration is preparing to carry out a campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria that may take three years to complete, requiring a sustained effort that could last until after President Obama has left office, according to senior administration officials. The first phase, an air campaign with nearly 145 airstrikes in the past month, is already underway to protect ethnic and religious minorities and American diplomatic, intelligence and military personnel, and their facilities, as well as to begin rolling back ISIS gains in northern and western Iraq.

Mayor de Blasio has sent 1,412 homeless people packing since taking office in January — keeping pace with Mayor Bloomberg’s bum-banishment program despite lambasting his Republican predecessor’s homeless policies. Liberal advocates for homeless New Yorkers slammed de Blasio for ignoring his own “Tale of Two Cities” campaign rhetoric to “push poor people out of the city.” “This is ridiculous,” said Luis Tejada, former head of the Mirabal Sisters Cultural and Community Center in West Harlem. “I worked for [de Blasio’s] campaign. Speaking at an event on business taxes at the Urban Institute in Washington, Lew placed the responsibility on Congress to address so-called tax inversions, but said that the administration was prepared to step in if lawmakers don´t move quickly enough.
