First cases of potentially deadly
mosquito-borne virus confirmed
to have been contracted in Florida

Daily Mail [UK], by Ryan Gorman

Original Article

Florida authorities have confirmed the first two cases of a painful mosquito-borne disease contracted in the United States. State health officials confirmed a Miami-Dade County female and a male in Palm Beach County have become the first two people to contract chikungya in the United States. Dozens of infections have previously been reported in Florida alone, according to the Tampa Bay Times, but these are the first two to have been contracted in the States. [Snip] Symptoms include fever, severe joint pain, swelling, rashes, and a feeling similar to arthritis for years, according to the Herald.

Comments:
Ordered a mosquito net for our 9´ patio umbrella last night, on sale at Improvements.com (29.99). Been thinking about this virus emerging not far from the SE SC coast, plus we live near wetlands so am adding it to the arsenal of stuff we already have for the nasty things.

Along the lines of NASCAR sponsorship decals, these infected mosquitos should bear the logos of EPA and the open-borders State Department, to remind the victims they create of the source of the needless misery.

You people with the DDT suggestion. Get serious! This is the Øbama Administration. They are as apt to suddenly declare the Tiger Mosquito an endangered species and import more of them from Sri Lanka!!! Anyone caught slapping an endangered mosquito will be fined $5,000.00 and forced to complete a "Mosquito re-education class at their own expense."

A neighbor who has property near Jacksonville, FL just returned from there and commented that many people are using garage door screens. Haven´t seen even one here in coastal SC yet. She also likes the fact that the ones popular there are black and difficult to see through from the outside.

I´m tempted, yes, very tempted.

An earnest young man from Vice claims to have "crashed" the Heartland Institute´s 9th International Conference on Climate Change. Actually, no: he was given a press pass and afforded every courtesy because that´s how we Evil Deniers (TM) roll--we welcome open debate. [Snip] I just want to focus on one of his criticisms: the shock revelation that Evil Denier (TM) James Delingpole still doesn´t read peer-reviewed climate science papers. It´s true. I don´t. Notoriously angry actor Alec Baldwin is not apologizing over an incident that led to a disorderly conduct arrest in May. Baldwin told a Manhattan judge Thursday he´d rather pay a fine than say sorry over the encounter that started when police stopped him for riding a bicycle the wrong way down a one-way street. To a packed courtroom, a clearly amused Judge John Delury asked the actor, ´Can you stay out of trouble, Alexander?´ A rather sheepish Baldwin replied, ´Sure, sure.´ The judge then gave him an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal. ´Be a good boy from now on,´ Delury bantered. ´Have a

Paracetamol has little impact on lower back pain and does not help sufferers recover more quickly, or improve pain levels, sleep or quality of life, research suggests. The painkiller is commonly prescribed for the most common form of back pain which usually feels like an ache, tension or stiffness. The Australian study, published in The Lancet, was the first large randomised trial to compare the effectiveness of paracetamol with a placebo for lower back pain. The study randomly assigned 1,652 individuals with an average age of 45 and with acute lower back pain from 235 primary care centres in Sydney
