Why Israel Launched a
Ground War in Gaza

Politico Magazine, by Aaron David Miller

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 7/18/2014 5:12:51 AM

After days of ominous buildup, it’s finally happening: Israel has launched a ground incursion into Gaza. But why, you say? War, what’s it good for? Israel’s Iron Dome has kept the home front safe; Hamas’ rejection of the Egyptian cease-fire offer has given Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the political high ground; and there’s a big risk of losing it if Israel charges into Gaza and ends up killing many more Palestinian civilians. Which it inevitably will. And what’s more, why do the Israelis believe that a ground war will lead to a better outcome than the last one in 2008/9?

Remember when Japan hit Hawaii? They kept poking at the big Giant until they awoke him. ISLAM has been doing the same thing to Israel for a very long time. And Israel could have wiped them off the map early on but they did not. Hamas, which is one of Islam´s many arms keeps poking and poking. Remember their vow of wiping the INFIDELS off the earth? You and I are Infidels don´t you know that? If they destroy Israel...WE ARE NEXT and we have lots and lots of Muslims in USA ready and waiting to kill the Infidels.

Probably because Bibi actually cares about protecting his people from barbarians more than willing to kill and maim them. The Muslims blood lust for Jews will never be abated until they are totally defeated and if that means wipe them out, so be it. Israel has a right to defend itself from evil.

When your enemy lobs explosive rockets into your country day after day eventually you get mad enough to strike back. Of course the Blame Israel Firsters will eviscerate Israel for defending herself, as usual.

The parallels between missiles lobbed from Gaza and "children" being lobbed from Central America are there to see. Bibi has responded, as he must.

Will we?

Muslims are dumb enough to believe they could actually defeat Israel. The Muslims will never understand until they are no more.

Long gone, evidently, are the days when the late, great Sonny Bono, asked for his position on illegal immigration, answered: “My position? What do you mean, my position? It’s illegal!” Still, I have never understood the claim that open borders is a winning political issue for the Democrats. That is borne out in the most recent Rasmussen Reports survey: Most voters don’t want any of the young illegal immigrants who’ve recently arrived here housed in their state and say any legislation passed by Congress to deal with the problem should focus on sending them home as soon as possible. The latest Rasmussen

A majority of voters are unimpressed with Hillary Clinton’s performance as secretary of state, according to a new POLITICO poll. Just 14 percent described her time at State — she served four years ending in February 2013 — as “excellent,” while 28 percent defined it as “good.” Twenty-one percent called it “fair,” and 32 percent rated her performance “poor.” Six percent weren’t sure or declined to answer. The survey of likely voters in states and districts with the most competitive House and Senate races was conducted this month as Clinton traveled around the country to promote her new memoir, “Hard Choices,”

Something has gone wrong in our civil service. Consider some recent developments. The IRS was forced to pay the National Organization for Marriage $50,000 for leaking the group’s donor list. Tea-party organizations and donors were much more likely than others to be audited by the IRS. This misbehavior was not the work of a few rogue employees in Cincinnati. In general, the IRS stalled tea-party applications for status as 501(c)(4) groups. Meanwhile, April Sands, an employee of the FEC, recently pleaded guilty to violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from campaigning at the office. Ms. Sands, who worked in

In December of 2012, speaking in front of a union audience, President Obama was cheered when he claimed that “right-to-work” laws – laws that allow employees to decide for themselves whether to join a union – were all about politics and had nothing to do with economics. In other words, he was advocating for forced unionism. Turns out he was incredibly wrong.(Snip for map)The Competitive Enterprise Institute just released a study analyzing countrywide economic activity from 1977-2012, and here are the key results: Wages – Median income loss per-person is $3,278, or $13,100 for a family of four, in forced-unionism states. Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) reportedly plans to dispatch the Texas National Guard to the U.S. border with Mexico, according to news reports. Perry will announce his plans Monday to mobilize some 1,000 guardsmen to the Rio Grande Valley to increase security at the border, according to the Monitor, a south Texas newspaper. The newspaper quoted a state senator and an internal memo it obtained from a state official’s office. Perry spokesman Felix Browne told The Washington Post he would neither confirm nor deny the report, but said all details will be given at a news conference at 2 p.m. Central time

THE PEW Research Center last week released a new survey of American attitudes in the Middle East. The results weren’t surprising. In the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, 51 percent of Americans say they sympathize more with Israel. Only 14 percent feel greater affinity for the Palestinians. Pew’s findings demonstrate the strength of pro-Israel feeling in the United States. The poll was conducted amid the current fighting with Hamas, but the bottom line hardly changed from Pew’s last survey in April, when it reported that in the 36 years it has been sampling public opinion, “sympathy toward Israel has never

Most of the news coverage of the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 has been ridiculous if not positively annoying. For days, we’ve been bored by breathless reports of “black boxes” gone missing, the accident scene “contaminated,” moved bodies, and calls for independent international investigations. Now that BFFs John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov have agreed that there needs to be — according to a Russian Foreign Ministry announcement — “an absolutely unbiased, independent and open international investigation” into the “crash” of the Malaysian airliner, we are apparently being told to relax because the “crash” is in safe

Something important is missing from the New York Times´s coverage of the war in Gaza: photographs of terrorist attacks on Israel, and pictures of Hamas fighters, tunnels, weaponry, and use of human shields. It appears the Times is silently but happily complying with a Hamas demand that the only pictures from Gaza are of civilians and never of fighters. The most influential news organization in the world is thus manufacturing an utterly false portrait of the battle—precisely the portrait that Hamas finds most helpful: embattled, victimized Gaza civilians under attack by a cruel Israeli military. At around noon on March 20 last year, Air Force One landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport for Barack Obama’s first presidential visit to Israel. The three-day trip had been billed as an Israeli reset—the newly reelected president’s bid for a clean slate with the Jewish state after four years of icy relations. Obama would lay a wreath at the tomb of Theodor Herzl, the father of Zionism. He would visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. He would address an auditorium packed with Israeli students. At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer

He was 86. He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday. Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press. There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks after his 80th birthday.
