California drought doesn´t
end brown lawn warnings

Associated Press, by Christopher Weber and Fenit Nirappil

Original Article

Los Angeles — Laura Whitney and her husband, Michael Korte, don´t know whether they´re being good citizens during a drought or scofflaws. On the same day the state approved mandatory outdoor watering restrictions with the threat of $500 fines, the Southern California couple received a letter from their city threatening a $500 penalty for not watering their brown lawn. It´s brown because of their conservation, which, besides a twice-a-week lawn watering regimen, includes shorter showers and larger loads of laundry. They´re encouraged by the state´s new drought-busting, public service slogan: Brown is the new green. The city of Glendora

Comments:
CaliCatch-22. Water your lawn, get fined. Don´t water your lawn, get the same fine.

Can´t stop wasting water on that useless gasoline contaminant, ethanol, since there´s too much special interest money in it.

This is why I live in an unincorporated pocket, and I love life. Here, there is relaxed zoning, do what you wish with your yard. The only thing we get once a year is a request from our fire department to keep tall grass and dead bushes away from the house due to fire hazards...a form letter everyone gets.

In Monrovia for example, (unless they changed the law) you are not allowed to park in front of your OWN HOUSE, on the street. Driveway only. If you want to throw a party, you have to get permits for people to put in their windows so they don´t get towed. As if Monrovia is so freaking great to live in.

Funny, in my neighborhood, there are few of these rules and no HOAs, and the homes here are nice and well kept. Kind of like it was before all these stupid laws.

During the last drought LA mandated that lawn watering and car washing be limited, along with reduced shower times and other water-saving techniques. The city-owned Dept. of Water and Power suffered a revenue loss because people actually followed their recommendations.

DWP then raised the water rates to retain the city´s revenue stream. (pun intended)

Hey CA, why not import more illegals to rid yourself of more water? I´m sure they don´t comply with water restrictions nor do they comply with paying fines.

No one is mentioning the numerous golf courses, public parks, wide grassy street medians, and so forth, that are still brilliantly green. And I have yet to see a brown lawn in the pricey enclaves like San Marino.

Re #7, not going anywhere.

And have a look at the numbers involved in the voter registration statistics. Dems around 44%. The Republicans at 28% represent over 5 million voters and the "declined to states" are another 21%.

Montclair — The state badly needs to improve its roads and bridges, and a hike in the state gasoline tax is likely to be at least part of how that gets done, lawmakers said today at a hearing on transportation funding. "New Jersey´s transportation infrastructure in New Jersey is in horrible shape and there´s essentially no money left to pay for any improvements," said Assemblyman John Wisniewski, chairman of the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee. A British-Pakistani man is wanted for questioning over an alleged £1bn fraud in Italy that is suspected to have been used to fund Middle Eastern terror groups. Prosecutors in Milan have said they are trying to trace the man over an alleged international carbon-trading scam. It was reportedly uncovered when British and American intelligence agencies found a cache of documents in a cave near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border – not far from the town where Osama bin Laden was killed by US special forces in 2011. Maybe it’s war fatigue. Maybe climate change is consuming all the protest energy right now. Maybe momentum just needs to build. But most likely, all of the above are the reasons antiwar protests didn’t erupt throughout the Bay Area, veteran activists say, after U.S. warplanes roared over the Syrian border Tuesday to bomb more than a dozen enclaves of Islamic radical jihadists into rubble. Some activists even conceded that many people weren’t going into the streets because the militants being targeted deserved to be dealt with, if not killed. By Tuesday afternoon, there were still no loud demonstrations to be found.

The enterovirus, a more virulent strain of the virus that causes the common cold, can lead to fever, sneezing and coughing in mild cases. Hospitalization for breathing difficulties and wheezing is required in more severe cases. The most recent diagnosis of the virus was Tuesday
