Obamacare Navigators, ´Assisters´

During the open enrollment period for the state and federal health care exchanges, each staff member and volunteer worked with an average of 1.8 people per day, according to a survey of assister programs released by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Kaiser calculated the number of people receiving aid between October 1, 2013 and the end of April, 2014: More than 4,400 Assister Programs, employing more than 28,000 full-time-equivalent staff and volunteers, helped an estimated 10.6 million people during the first Open Enrollment period. If you do the math, 28,000 individuals assisting 10.6 million people over 210 days breaks down to

And now, I´ve heard of reports how folks who signed up for Obamacare are all upset of why they have to pay co-pays and deductibles for that free/cheap healthcare insurance they got from Dear Leader(US)´s minions, the navigators.

You´d think if you only signed up 2 people a day, you´d spend a few minutes to explain what the suckers ... oops, I mean, people are buying.

Folks go through training and tests to get an insurance license to do this stuff. Unless you´re a professional community organizer and get a crony contract as a "navigator."

Article doesn´t mention that navigators earned $20-$48 an hour and in one area more than $48 an hour, with 20 hours training. They complained about being fingerprinted. One had a criminal record, another was an illegal.

Mostly they sat in the ghetto, Wally World, and Walgreens while everybody tried repeatedly to enroll online.

Some of those paying for Zippycare cannot find anyone to accept their insurance.

Call that a success ?

PETALING JAYA: The second of two black boxes has been recovered from the debris field where Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH17 is believed to have gone down in eastern Ukraine. According to Reuters, a cameraman from the news agency reported that the second of two flight recorders was found at 5.55am GMT. This follows a report from Russian news agency Interfax that pro-Russia separatists who claim to have recovered the black box of MH17 have announced that they are planning to have it moved to Moscow for examination. A black box, which is actually orange, is made up of a

The National Interest, by W. James Antle III    Original Article

Will Mitt Romney run again for president? The question seems absurd. Aside from a single commanding debate performance against President Barack Obama, he was not a very good candidate in 2012. After failing in his first attempt at gaining the Republican nomination four years earlier, Romney struggled across the finish line against weak, underfunded primary opponents whose best days were mostly behind them. He then promptly lost to Obama in November. In fact, Romney has only won one general election in twenty years of running for office. He will be fourteen years removed from that lone victory in November 2016. His overall

Transcripts of audio intercepted by Ukranian security services in which pro-Russian separatists discuss how they had shot down an airliner paint a chilling picture of what happened on the ground after Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 crashed near the Russian border, killing all 298 people on board, including 27 Australians. The audio points to the involvement of the rebels, who are believed to have Russian backing, in the crash. US intelligence has confirmed a surface-to-air missile was fired at the plane. The rebels have shot down two Ukranian military aircraft in the past week. One section of the audio includes a conversation between two

When asked his opinion of the ongoing crisis involving illegal immigrant children, NJ Governor and potential 2016 GOP presidential contender Chris Christie said, "I have great empathy for that situation. We´ll take every request that comes based on its merits and make those decisions." He also called Americans "an empathetic people." Christie remarks came while he was in Iowa for a Republican Governor´s Association event. But he said "encouraging this would be the wrong step to take," alluding to families sending their children to New Jersey, which has among the nation´s 10 largest Hispanic populations. Christie blamed the Obama administration for the failure

Have you heard the saying “working twice as hard to be half as good?” This is precisely the dilemma Israel finds itself in all too often. Currently Israel is again embroiled in an unwanted battle of self-defense against Hamas, an enemy obsessed with its destruction. It seems a distant memory that in an effort to appease the demands being made upon it by world leaders, Israel made a gut-wrenching decision in 2005 to unilaterally withdraw from the Gaza Strip, after a 38-year presence. Communities were left intact, which included useful structures such as greenhouses. Yet as if to drill their hatred into the

The Republican National Committee has chosen to host its 2016 GOP convention in the all-important battleground state of Ohio. The GOP has been waging an all-out battle with itself since the 2012 presidential election that saw Mitt Romney’s campaign go down in flames. Since then, the party has rolled out “autopsy” strategies and seen the rise and fall of some of its most promising 2016 candidates, most notably, scandal-plagued New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. By choosing the city of Cleveland to host its nomination event the party sends the message that Ohio will be its last stand. What’s further interesting is

I suspect that there’s a certain amount of thought that can rattle around in a human head without the assistance of language -- a certain amount of spatial reasoning, perhaps, a baby’s silent attempt to stack his blocks -- something is going on in there. But mostly we think with language -- and here I define think as the function of reason, the analysis and assessment of available facts, the kind of clear mental function that should take place before a person votes. If you were a member of an elitist group trying to get complete control of a logical and stiff-necked people, what would you have to accomplish first?

Teaching in high schools in New York City for twenty-one years, it was disturbing to see that U.S. history textbooks often distance themselves from open praise and delight at the system of government our country enjoys. No sense of resounding gratitude is expressed for our Constitution. Federalism and checks and balances are dryly presented in a detached manner as mere mechanisms. There is no sense of honor accorded to the incredible vision of a government “conceived in liberty,” with the centers of power placed under wonderful constraints against tyranny. Further, students will typically find politically correct statements in

Hillary Clinton says there’s “growing awareness” that Malaysia Airlines passenger plane was probably shot down by Russian insurgents — but argued that European leaders must “take the lead” on any action if that proves to be the case. Clinton made the comments about the doomed plane in a wide-ranging interview with TV host Charlie Rose set to air Thursday night. Portions of the taped interview were released ahead of airtime. “The questions I’d be asking is, No. 1, ‘Who could have shot it down? Who had the equipment?’” she said. “It’s obviously an antiaircraft missile.” The former secretary of state, who’s pondering a

The most significant recent development in these situations was the announcement of new sanctions on Russia shortly before the president spoke. Obama described those
