Putin´s Pirates Of

Geopolitics: Vladimir Putin blew through Latin America last week, handing out goodies to anti-U.S. regimes. But he insists he doesn´t want to reopen an old spy base in Cuba, which we find disingenuous. The scope of the Russian president´s visit took the U.S. by surprise. Instead of just attending the World Cup final and a summit of BRICS countries, Putin made an unexpected visit to Nicaragua, with talk of a military land base there. Students Shun Constitution,

Higher Education: A university student newspaper has editorialized against a required class teaching America´s founding documents. That should make the left happy. It wants to erase those records from our minds. A July 8 editorial in the University of South Carolina´s Daily Gamecock is critical of the "state law which requires students to learn about the U.S. founding documents, including the Constitution." "Most students don´t need" the class, the Gamecock argues, adding that "it´s almost insulting to require students to pay for a class" they took for free in high school. Gaza Would Be Better Off

Middle East: Out of pure self-preservation, Israel may end up taking back Gaza. Its large, almost entirely Arab population should celebrate, because life under their supposed enemies is preferable to terrorist Hamas rule. After a torrent of rocket attacks on Israeli population centers in recent weeks, Israel responded by bombing numerous targets in northern Gaza. And now an Israeli ground invasion of the coastal Gaza Strip has begun — possibly to be followed by a long-term re-occupation. Gaza has been ruled by Syria, by Egypt, and now, thanks to the ballot box, by the terrorist group Hamas. Not for nothing did Melville

Passenger posted joke about plane

The Hague - A young Dutchman apparently posted a picture of the downed Malaysian airliner on Facebook minutes before he boarded it, writing: "If it should disappear, this is what it looks like." Cor Pan, who appeared to be going on a beach holiday to Malaysia, posted the photo as a joking reference to another Malaysia Airlines flight that mysteriously disappeared over the Indian Ocean in March. A few hours later his flight too would disappear from radar screens, taking him and the other 297 people on board the Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur flight to their deaths in eastern Ukraine. Although there has

A passenger on the Malaysian Airlines flight that crashed in eastern Ukraine appears to have posted an ominous message before the plane took off from Amsterdam´s Schiphol airport. The man, identifying himself on Facebook only as "Cor Pan", posted a photo showing the aircraft parked at its gate. Alluding to missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, whose fate has been unclear for months, he added a comment to the picture: "In case it disappears, this is what it looks like." While it is theoretically possible to manipulate both the time and location shown alongside a photo, the reactions underneath the photo speak for

The United States on Thursday urged Israel to do more to protect civilians caught in the crossfire between the Israel and Hamas, after Palestinian Arabs claimed to international media that four children were killed during an IAF air strike. "We ask (Israel) to redouble their efforts to prevent civilian casualties. We believe there is more that can be done," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters. "We believe that certainly there is more that can be done." "The tragic event makes clear that Israel must take every possible step to meet its standards for protecting civilians from being killed," Psaki added. It is

RUSH: National Journal. Now, it was earlier this week, and it was TheHill.com, and I know you´ll remember because I spent an inordinate amount of time on this. It was a story that had a headline which essentially said that amnesty, "comprehensive immigration reform," has "fizzled" as an issue, as a winning electoral issue for the Democrats. I spent a lot of time asking: How in the world can that be? We have been told for how many years now, consecutive years, that it´s the only hope for the Republican Party? If they ever want to win the White House again, they´re

Listen to the profundity here of the opening line. Are you ready? Just listen. It´s about 27 seconds, but just listen. I mean, this is raw intelligence. This is the kind of intelligence, folks, that we expected back in 2008. This is what they all meant when they said, "He´s a man unlike any who has ever walked among us! Barack Obama provoked fury in the U.S. by casually devoting mere moments to the deaths of 295 people aboard a Malaysian airliner on Thursday in Wilmington, Delaware, and then launching into jokes and his prepared remarks on the need to expand America´s transportation infrastructure. Twenty-three Americans are feared dead after the jetliner crashed in eastern Ukraine. Obama declared that ´it looks like it may be a terrible tragedy, but not before enthusiastically declaring that ´it is wonderful to be back in Delaware.´ ´Before I begin, obviously the world is watching reports of a downed passenger jet near the Russia-Ukraine border. Some 20 rockets were found Wednesday in a school in Gaza operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the organization confirmed Thursday. The weapons were found in “the course of the regular inspection of its premises,” UNRWA said in a statement, adding that the school was vacant.“UNRWA strongly condemns the group or groups responsible for placing the weapons in one of its installations. This is a flagrant violation of the inviolability of its premises under international law,” the statement read. A Malaysian Airlines passenger plane has reportedly been shot down on the Russian-Ukraine border, apparently killing all 295 people on board. Flight MH17, which was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew, was flying between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpar after taking off leaving at lunchtime today. The Interfax news agency reported that the aircraft went missing near Donetsk, where pro-Russian rebels have been fighting Ukrainian government forces for several weeks. TV pictures from the scene showed a pall of smoke billowing into the sky apparently from the stricken aircraft. It is believed the plane was struck by BUK surface-to-air missile at

After President Barack Obama breathlessly addressed four different foreign-policy issues during a 10-minute statement, he summed up the state of a crisis-filled world in one sentence. "We live in a complex world and at a challenging time," Obama said. Obama touched on the laundry list of global flashpoints situations during a statement from the White House on Wednesday — the disputed elections in Afghanistan, the negotiations on Iran´s nuclear program, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and, finally, the conflict in Ukraine. The most significant recent development in these situations was the announcement of new sanctions on Russia shortly before the president spoke. Obama described those

Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Rep. Tom Rice (R., S.C.) and constitutional law expert David Rivkin on Wednesday predicted victory in the lawsuit the House is launching against President Barack Obama. The House Rules Committee held a hearing on the proposed lawsuit, which is intended to prove the unconstitutionality of Obama’s unilateral delay of the employer mandate portion of the Affordable Care Act. Witnesses at the hearing argued about whether the House has standing to sue the president to enforce the law. “I’m very optimistic that this lawsuit will succeed,” Rivkin said in an interview. “I certainly expect there to be a propaganda offensive to

Thanks to our friends at Washington Free Beacon, you’ll never have to watch a Barack Obama speech again. Reason being, this 76-second video shows you everything he’s going to say. He will: Tell you it’s great to be back in whatever town he’s in. Tell you to have a seat – twice. Appreciate the introduction. Love you back. Recommend building more roads and bridges. Say the economy grows from the middle out. Say the wealthy have to “pay their fair share.” Blame Republicans in Congress for everything. Encourage you to vote rather than boo.

Dozens of Central Americans who paid $1.50 a head could be seen this week crossing the broad Suchiate River on improvised rafts of inner tubes and wooden boards, in full view of Mexican police on the shore and immigration agents posted on
