Malaysia Airlines crash:

In its efforts to cover the Malaysia Airlines crash today, MSNBC stumbled. In this case, the enormity of the stumble can’t possibly be described, abridged, short-handed or whatever. Just read the transcript of the video above. The awfulness occurs as MSNBC host Krystal Ball takes a phone call from an alleged “eyewitness” to the crash: Ball: Let’s turn now to an MSNBC exclusive. U.S. Staff Sgt. Michael Boyd is at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and says that he saw a missile in the air hit the plane. He is on the phone with us. Sergeant, are you there? Boyd: Yes, I’m here, can you hear me? Ball: I can, please tell us what you saw there on

Thanks, #2 - THAT´s where we´ve heard that name before. She´s also the one who appeared in the party photos with the sex toys just prior to the election. How appropriate for the caller to throw a Howard Stern mention into the prank.

Remember they got the Martha Stewart verdict first - and wrong!

National Journal -- Disruptive Politics: How Rising Populism is Changing the Identity of Both Parties. Editor´s Note: One of America ´s leading political analysts, Charlie Cook, discusses the rise of populism in both parties and how the establishment is responding in today´s National Journal. Back in the mid-1990s, Harvard professor Clayton Christensen coined the phrases "disruptive technology" and "disruptive innovation" to describe certain kinds of game-changing developments in the business world. Now, in politics, we are seeing a variation on that theme. On the left, the Occupy movement helped spawned a new populism that is reflected in rising interest in

Centrist Democrats are pulling away from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid´s (D-NV) plans to throw more money at the border without also making policy changes focused on the deportation of illegal minors--especially minors from Central America. According to The Hill, Reid has joined with Senate Democrat Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) in pushing $3.7 billion "in emergency spending" that does "not include policy changes empowering the administration to deport unaccompanied minors more quickly." Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is voicing opposition to this plan, asking how senators are simply supposed to sign off on billions

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) indicated today that if President Barack Obama takes actions that exceed his constitutional authority, the House of Representatives has no plans to use its own constitutional authority to withhold funding from those actions. At his weekly press briefing, CNSNews.com asked Boehner: “You’ve said you disagree with calls to impeach the president over abuse of power via executive actions. But under the Constitution the House actually has the power of the purse. So, if the President takes actions that exceed his Constitutional authority, will you withhold funding for those actions in the next must-pass

CNN reporter Diana Magnay has been reassigned to Moscow after tweeting that Israelis were “scum.” The spokeswoman confirmed to the Huffington Post Friday morning that Magnay has been assigned to Moscow, after the incident. “Israelis on hill above Sderot cheer as bombs land on #gaza; threaten to ‘destroy our car if I say a word wrong’. Scum,” Magnay tweeted before deleting it a short time afterwards. A CNN representative apologized for the incident, and tried to clarify the nature of her tweet. “After being threatened and harassed before and during a liveshot, Diana reacted angrily on Twitter,” a spokeswoman said

Pasta maker Barilla apologized four times for its chairman’s goofy, gay-dissing remarks last fall. But the company’s culinary orientation is beyond forgiving, judging by its recently opened, quick-serve Manhattan cafe. Since Academia Barilla launched a few months ago, reviewers have ignored it, even though the press couldn’t get enough of Barilla during last year’s uproar. Maybe it’s a boycott as demanded by gay-rights organizations after Barilla chairman Guido Barilla said he’d never use gays in commercials because he prefers “traditional” families.

It is at times like these, when he is pushed kicking and screaming into the crucible, that Obama’s callowness shows. For his supporters, that jejune, jocular air has been a plus for almost six years. For the rest of us, it has served as a liability and an irritation. Yesterday, it became a wholesale embarrassment. On the perpetual-campaign trail, the pattern is familiar. Trotting up to the podium, the president fist-bumps the audience’s stragglers and smiles a toothy and humble grin at those who catch his eye. The two backing Boehner and two constitutional law experts who oppose the suit testified Wednesday before the House Rules Committee.
